QUOTE(AngelasDaddy0427 @ Feb 29, 2008 -> 11:45 PM) I'm sorry but some of you people are dillusional. The fact is that if Hilary wins by even 1 point in every state or even ties then the nomination is hers. Even if she loses by less the 5 points the nomination is hers. Obama has to sweep or it's over. I just wonder if he'll get out before he gets embarassed at the convention. Beleive me, I tend to think the same way, because I've been saying and still say that Clinton will not or cannot lose. However, if Obama is strong on Tuesday, and all indication is that he will be, then Hillary is done. My only thing is at this point is "remember New Hampshire"... because Hillary can do surprisingly well on Tuesday. But Hillary has to run the table to stay in it.

QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Feb 29, 2008 -> 04:22 PM) Hillary personally hits the 3:00 a.m. phone ringing garbage issue. We're what, 2 days away from the ad of Obama's face morphing in to Bin Laden's face at th? Nice cross section of hispanic male, and old WWII vets behind her. Notice not one woman... not one...

QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Feb 29, 2008 -> 11:42 AM) Ok, deal. I'll proofread your LTE to the Tribune asking why they're not covering this if you'd like They'll cover it. Give it time.

QUOTE(bmags @ Feb 29, 2008 -> 08:10 AM) no, man this pisses me off. School proposed our emergency alert system. Saying we'll have emergency texts just sign up. BUt the company doing this text alert thing would also be sending us advertisements. They basically just raped our #'s for "security". That company luckily didn't happen, now we just have a text service exclusive to the school. No s***? Wow. WOW! A university should get reprimanded for that s***, seriously. -

QUOTE(StrangeSox @ Feb 29, 2008 -> 08:07 AM) A 15-20% weight reduction would be HUGE. Unless some exotic materials, like carbon fiber, plummet in price, its not very realistic. These materials also don't really lend themselves to massive-scale mass production. With all of the safety standards the require more and more airbags, more and more electronic controls (stability control and ABS aren't lightweight components!), and consumers demanding more and more gadgets in their cars (do we really need 6 TV screens and a video game system?), it'd be very hard to get the weight down while still building a safe car that people would buy. And if Ford is sitting on these technologies, its no wonder they're going bankrupt. I wasn't on the inside working directly with Ford, but I did take a ME course on internal combustion engines at U of I. The professor worked in the Ford lab and frequently talked about the work they were doing. It was advancements on stuff that's hitting the market now like direct-injection gasoline engines. BTW, it's usually you business-types that us engineers are b****ing about! Uh huh... nice comeback... You know, I could never solidly 100% say, Ford is sitting on technology... but you could strongly infer it by some of the stuff our team drudged up. They were saying that they could not roll it out because the costs would be too prohibitive UNDER THE CURRENT STRUCTURE at Ford. If they could shed some of the crap (read: labor) then they could almost get there at a cost that wouldn't be so prohibitive. It was quite interesting... -
QUOTE(StrangeSox @ Feb 29, 2008 -> 07:54 AM) Fixed it for you. Nice.

QUOTE(StrangeSox @ Feb 29, 2008 -> 07:52 AM) Take your pick: $100,000 family sedan made out of carbon fiber, or sub-compact lightweight. If you've got 3 kids to haul around, you need a vehicle larger than a SMART car. You don't need a Yukon Denali, but a car weighing under 3,000 lbs is a pretty small car. Think Honda Civic. Even then, the Civic only gets 30/40 MPG. http://www.edmunds.com/insideline/do/Drive...01/pageId=67700 A Camry weighs in at 3200lb curb weight. We're not talking about huge cars and SUV's here, just your typical sedan. What's this technology that they have? Who has it? Why wouldn't the automakers want to be the first company with a 50 MPG Camry-sized car? They'd sell faster than they could ever hope to make them. You're somewhat on the right track, IMO, on the cost, but if they mass produced some thing to lighten the weight of the care even by 15-20%, the MPG gained would be that same 15-20%. In looking at some studies when I did a pretty lengthy strategic plan for Ford as a part of my MBA program, I ran across quite a bit of stuff to suggest that they have some technologies that they're "sitting on"... I don't have the sources with me, and you're partially right, cost was a factor, but then, if they did the right labor moves, you could sell the "new car" at the same cost as what the old ones sell for now, ironically. -

QUOTE(StrangeSox @ Feb 29, 2008 -> 07:38 AM) That's about as true as the "100 MPG carburetor." The automakers are spending millions upon millions of dollars to research better fuel economy. An entire wing of the Mechanical Engineering Building at the University of Illinois was paid for by Ford. They're making strides with direct injection, smaller forced induction engines, small diesels, etc. A decent-sized car that got 50-60 MPG with 200HP would be the best selling car in the country. Unfortunately, thermodynamics says that it really isn't possible. The chemistry of the fuel limits you to a maximum engine efficiency, and then you have to throw in all the mechanical losses in trying to move around a 3500lb. car. 50-60 MPG just isn't going to happen with gasoline engines. Diesel-electric hybrids, maybe. But not gasoline. And there's your key, right there. I'm going to say it again. They have the technology... they just do not use it, because they don't have to, at least not yet. -

QUOTE(StrangeSox @ Feb 29, 2008 -> 05:55 AM) Yes, I can. Unless you want to be driving around in tiny cars (sub-compacts or smaller), the laws of physics limit the maximum efficiency of a gasoline engine. And you'll have an engine with They have the technology. They just do not want to advance it. -
QUOTE(Rex Hudler @ Feb 28, 2008 -> 10:43 PM) I was referring to all of the others crying when someone gets kicked, not the person leaving. I can see a girl like Alaina being overcome with emotion (especially since she got hosed tonight). But last week, 3/4 of the girls were bawling when the first girl was let go. Please don't tell me Danny Noriega is gonna be around that long? I can't stand him. I thought both girls that went home tonight were better than some of the other girls. Amanda, the Joplin wanna be with the god knows what hair, just irritates the s*** out of me. She took a great song last night and butchered the hell out of it. /rant Danny and Amanda are "controversial" so they have to keep them for just a little while. Danny is WORSE then Sanjaya on the idiot scale. I want to kick the tv every time I see the little s***, but that means he will stay for the next 3-5 weeks because he'e controversy!!! and that's what AI is all about until the end.

QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Feb 28, 2008 -> 09:19 PM) So, let's see...Imagine how the press would respond if McCain had been endorsed by a controversial religious figure. A religious figure who had attacked another religion vehemently. Let's imagine it was a Protestant religious leader, who had attacked the Catholic church, calling it the "Antichrist" and "The great Whore". Now let's imagine that unlike Senator Obama, Senator McCain had not only actively sought out the support of this controversial religious figure, but added that he was "Very proud" to have his support. And Hell, on top of that, let's throw in a statement from the Catholic League President Bill Donahue, the same guy who South Park had taking over the Papacy, condemning McCain for accepting his support and calling on McCain to repudiate it in the same way Mr. Obama did with Farrakhan. Now wouldn't you imagine that the press would be all over that? Not only is it strikingly similar to Obama and how he's been hit on the Nation of Islam, but it's on the Republican side and the media hates Republicans. And not only that, but whereas Obama disavowed that supporter, McCain happily accepted it. Wouldn't you imagine that would be a pretty big scandal? Because as far as the NYT, AP, and Reuters are concerned, it doesn't appear to be newsworthy at all. And while I"m at it, I can't even find it mentioned on MSNBC. No, it's called the Clinton smear machine. There's a big difference. And furthermore, you're absolutely right, Rex. It would have been broken later, because right now it doesn't matter because the nomination is already decided.

Obama doing something that I thought was shady???

Yea I started thinking that. I changed the title because I didn't want to mislead. I mean damn... it's not like he doesn't have a battery of lawyers on this stuff. -

QUOTE(Rex Kicka** @ Feb 28, 2008 -> 10:13 PM) If he bought the list, the University had to offer it for sale. It's also possible that the list is publicly available and a student volunteer brought a directory into the campaign headquarters which is not illegal. That makes sense. I was trying to figure out how that kind of list would have gotten out... legally, anyway. As I said, I didn't mean to make the thread title THAT misleading, but I honestly thought that was something illegal. -
I am making this its own thread... because I want to see what you all know or think... It seems that almost all University of North Texas students who have listed their cell phones on the emergency network have gotten phone calls on their cell phones from the Obama campaign. It SEEMS (and that's why I have the question marks) as though Obama bought that list somehow? It's weird... but my question is, isn't it illegal to solicit (buy) phone lists like that from universities, etc.? I guess there's some people checking into it here. I thought it was interesting. And really, it fits the ground game Obama is running. BTW, Obama JUST finished a rally in downtown Fort Worth. The fire marshall had to close off the convention center at 12,000 and they had to open an overflow wing at the convention center that had about 2,000 more on a close circuit tv. The man has momentum. Tell you what, gang... since I'm here, I'll let this thread run it's initial course and then we'll change the thread title to the Texas/Ohio results thread. Sound ok?

QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Feb 28, 2008 -> 08:20 PM) Whether you like him or not, whether you are a Democrat or not...Ron Paul is not running in any of the Democratic Primaries or Caucuses and therefore campaign statements for him don't belong in this thread. But DEMOCRATS for Ron Paul makes it ok.
-
QUOTE(YahtzeeSox @ Feb 28, 2008 -> 08:13 PM) Vote For Truth. Vote for Ron Paul!! Not here for months, then we see this. It's been rehashed, smoked, and snuffed out. Ron Paul was irrelevant about oh, IOWA. Thanks for playing. (now we'll see some huge hit diatribe about how we're all assholes mocking Ron Paul, like the other 15 times this came up)

I didn't see the show Tues or Wed, but Danny Noreiga is DEFINITELY this year's Sanjaya, although probably more talented. As far as the crying, you know, I can't fault these kids. They are living a dream, and it gets shattered all at once. It's pretty emotional.

QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Feb 28, 2008 -> 07:42 PM) From Subscription only roll call, I'd just like to note how dastardly it is that those lousy Dems are sacrificing national security for the sake of their trial lawyer friends, and thank Jesus that the Republicans have such honorable motives. But they couldn't have passed it without Democrat help. Just remember that.

QUOTE(BigSqwert @ Feb 28, 2008 -> 04:24 PM) You have got to be kidding me. The dope was calling out Obama for not wearing a flag pin but didn't have one on himself. Give me a break. I'm not talking about that dope. I'm talking in general. I just wanted to say what bothers me about the Obama thing.
-
QUOTE(BigSqwert @ Feb 28, 2008 -> 04:17 PM) In case anyone was wondering, I think Rep Jack Kingston (R-GA) is a douche bag. ok look... I won't say that Obama is un-patriotic because of this. But, people have DIED fighting for what that flag symbolizes. I mean hell, if the flag as a symbol is that worthless, let's stop giving them out after veterans of our country die. If it's that worthless, then let's stop flying the damn thing. If it's that worthless, let's stop the pledge of allegiance. If it's that worthless... Obama has now made it a point. And that is what is bulls*** to me.
-
QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Feb 28, 2008 -> 03:09 PM) And falling under "two can play at that game..." Obama could be disqualified based on how you read that same law that would disqualify McCain. How stupid. http://campaignspot.nationalreview.com/pos...mRlMDYyMWVlYjI= That's just stupid. Both sides needs to lay off the "technical" s***... they are citizens, leave it alone.

QUOTE(BigSqwert @ Feb 28, 2008 -> 03:39 PM) 2 minute ads in every market in Texas and Ohio!?!?! Shows you what raising a crap load of money can do for a campaign. LINK I gotta be honest, I am sick of the commercials. They are on every commercial break for every freaking show. One Hillary, one Obama commercial, every bank of commercials. Sometimes Hillary first, sometimes Obama first.
