QUOTE(BigSqwert @ Aug 7, 2007 -> 05:57 PM) Oh come on now. You're stretching a bit. And lets keep the Iraq posts in the other thread. Shhh, you. I'm on a roll. -
QUOTE(BigSqwert @ Aug 7, 2007 -> 05:58 PM) Oh my. How can anyone live in that God forsaken climate? We'll talk about it in the winter.

QUOTE(GoSox05 @ Aug 7, 2007 -> 05:55 PM) 268 deaths are alarming in Iraq, cause that wouldnt be 14 years it would be a week or so. But it wasn't alarming when Saddam was in charge. -
QUOTE(GoSox05 @ Aug 7, 2007 -> 05:52 PM) nope not at all. There in the military. Part of the goverment. They were in uniform. You have the logic of an ameoba, maybe. It's been fun.

QUOTE(Texsox @ Aug 7, 2007 -> 05:51 PM) WOW, I can't believe I live on the same border y'all are describing and worked in Reynosa, Matamoros, and Nuevo Laredo. I don't know where to begin. Yes, there is crime in Mexico border cities, just like every major US city. Gangs, drugs, etc. all come into play. There are places in Chicago most of us would not want to visit, the same with Mexico cities. NAFTA caused a huge influx of rest of world companies moving to North America, and especially Mexico. Reynosa is home to the largest concentration of Japanese manufacturers outside of Japan. They avoid tariffs on their country of origin b y manufacturing in North America. At least in my corner of the border, the infrastructure has improved greatly in the past 12 years. Two International bridges have been built, with one more beginning. Highways have been built, local roads improved. The industrial parks have better roads and easier access. Public areas are being painted. Part of Mexico's problem was allowing countries to plunder and not contribute. For example, Mexico charges a tax on profits. Using the classic Maquilladora model, goods are staged in the US, sent over to Mexico for assembly, them returned to the US for sale. The company "sells" the finished goods to their American division at cost, resulting in zero profit and zero taxes paid. That loophole has been closed to some extent. Most of the abuses you read about are Mexican companies exploiting their own workers. On the border, most Maquilla managers are US citizens and have the same ethics as you and I. They try to make a difference. With China coming on strong, they are also in a competitive bind and trying to squeeze every penny. DING DING DING DING!!!! THAT'S why we have a MEXICAN immigration problem... -

QUOTE(BigSqwert @ Aug 7, 2007 -> 05:51 PM) Not to sound insensitive about the deaths of 268 women but that isn't an alarming number of deaths in a span of 14 years. but in Iraq, that's ALARMING! I'm sorry, I had to. -
QUOTE(Beastly @ Aug 7, 2007 -> 05:33 PM) It's nice to hear the reassurance here, because I'm going to be quite lost when I go down there. I'm not wanting to change who I am or what I believe in, I just would like to make more friends, maintain a relationship with someone very close to me back home and just take it easy. I wouldn't mind going to go out and socialize, but I guess drinking and dancing isn't really my thing. Dancing only is my thing when I'm at a wedding or at a school function. I agree that people change a lot but I hope that I'll remain mostly of who I want to be and have some of the same beliefs. I'm sure going out won't be a problem, it's just finding those people who share interests (sports, World of Warcraft, video games, D&D, Warlord the CCG and Magic the Gathering.) Again, sorry for the random posts out to people on the board, but I'm one to write better than communicate my thoughts than through speaking. I'm sure the transition will be an adjustment, but will be a positive one. The biggest piece of advice is just be who you are. The rest of the idiots in the world who have a problem with that can just go pound sand. Those who will really be your friend and will be there no matter what you are are the only ones that matter. No one else does. Have fun, and be yourself. That's it!

QUOTE(GoSox05 @ Aug 7, 2007 -> 05:32 PM) Since the start of NAFTA in 1994. The economy has had downturns in production, wages and employment and 22 percent drop in wages. Not to mention the sevre health and safety risks. Maybe NAFTA isnt causing the harsh conditions, but they are harsh and thats why people are coming here. I dont support a system that allows people to come here and be treated without labor laws. Neither do most of us here. We do NOT, however, want to give them legal CITIZENSHIP status. -
QUOTE(GoSox05 @ Aug 7, 2007 -> 05:27 PM) There usually getting told what they can't do, because their always trying to put their religion on everyone else. Tell them to get out of my buisness and I'll get out of their's. Really? Tell the government to get out of my (healthcare) business. Tell the government to get out of my (marital) business. Tell the government to get out of my (pocketbook) business. Tell the government to get out of my (social welfare program) business. Tell the government to get out of my (immigration) business. Lastly, tell the government to get out of my (religious) business. It's sort of the same thing, don'cha think?

QUOTE(StrangeSox @ Aug 7, 2007 -> 05:26 PM) Like most of politics, it's not clear-cut or black-and-white. Pandering to CNN's latest polls and never taking a true stance on issues is not an honorable trait. Neither is steadfastly sticking with a position that has been shown to be erroneous. I don't know why or when it became such a deplorable thing for people to change their minds when presented with new evidence. It hasn't, but when it becomes "dangerous" is when it's for pure polictical fodder. That's my issue with it.
-
QUOTE(StrangeSox @ Aug 7, 2007 -> 05:22 PM) Enforcement may be hypocritical, but the rules themselves are not in my understanding of them. They used their position, power, and military apparel for inappropriate support of a religious group. Denomination doesn't matter. To that exact point, yes. But I really was making more of an observation outside of that realm.

QUOTE(NorthSideSox72 @ Aug 7, 2007 -> 05:23 PM) You clearly weren't outside in Chicago yesterday afternoon, when it was 90 degrees, raining and the humidity was about 238917562785692876923487567%. It's been that way here this summer. Now, we're getting Texas weather, plus the humidity, because the ground's moist from all the rain. Air temp of 102 + humidity. Nice!

But heavy precipitation makes it cooler... That was bad, I know.
-
The truth is, they don't. We try so hard to protect every other form of religion, that Christians actually get repressed and told what they can't do all the time.

QUOTE(NorthSideSox72 @ Aug 7, 2007 -> 05:15 PM) OK Kap, YOU calling someone else on cynicism. That's priceless. I figured someone would see the irony.

QUOTE(GoSox05 @ Aug 7, 2007 -> 05:10 PM) Well its not like there coming over here from castles to work like that. They have it just as bad in nothern Mexico, I'd say worse. Towns like Juarez, where an estimated 268 women have been killed since 1993 and slave labor, rape and other such atrocites are the normal. This do to NAFTA. So we should be pointing the finger at employers, not people trying to escape a harsh reality for the chance to not have that. So why don't we resverse things like Nafta and spend some money to help build econmy in northern Mexico. We spent billions of dollars on a country half way around the world. We can spend money on one right next to us. First of all, this stuff happened long before NAFTA, so stop that crap before it even starts. Second, NAFTA actually did draw in business for Mexico. It's too bad that their government is so corrupt that they actually don't invest in their infastructure. The wages have steadily increased since NAFTA, but it's not NEARLY enough for the common people. Employers are the issue. Most of us say that here on this board. -
QUOTE(BigSqwert @ Aug 7, 2007 -> 04:53 PM) Good news in Iraq? Link OMG OMG OMG THAT's GREAT NEWS!!! Please. Try a little harder next time to be just a little more cynical.

QUOTE(GoSox05 @ Aug 7, 2007 -> 04:42 PM) when by "good amount". I mean good amount of people who are active against immigration. Not of the general population. That's not true, either. I don't care where these people are from (Mexico, Canada, Britian, Europe, Africa, Asia), they need to get here legally. That's it. -

QUOTE(max power @ Aug 7, 2007 -> 04:40 PM) I disagree, especially if jose shows flashes of what he was before the season's end, which I expect him to do in at least one game. Regardless, even if they can't dump even part of jose's contract, kenny will try to patch this team up and compete. He isn't going into rebuild mode yet. That's my opinion on this matter. Glad you got the wrong opinion. Jose is a White Sox for the duration of his contract, unless he starts magically throwing over the top with no pain again. If that happens, everyone will want him to stay anyway. -
QUOTE(NorthSideSox72 @ Aug 7, 2007 -> 04:34 PM) Well, not EVERYONE voted for it. Kucinich for example is a candidate who, as a house rep, voted against. I've said before, and it bears repeating, Kucinich is one of the few who actually hasn't changed his mind 15 times. He's stayed right with his convictions, and that's applaudable, no matter how wrong I think he is. As far as the rest of these dingleberries, I wish they all could be sent home and get some people in office that would actually get something done for the common people. Unfortunately, this policial cycle is the same washed up retread beliefs getting tossed around over and over, with no real solutions that actually work.

QUOTE(GoSox05 @ Aug 7, 2007 -> 04:35 PM) I don't get how it's ignorant. It's being honest. White people in this country who complain non stop about immigration don't like mexicans or at least don't like them living near them. At least have the nerves to come out and and admit it. I'm not saying that everyone is, but a good amount of people are. Bulls***. Those who "complain" want the problem fixed without making them American Citizens on a free pass. That's about it. Let them stay, on a worker's program, but don't give them citizenship. That's my stance anyway. -

QUOTE(GoSox05 @ Aug 7, 2007 -> 04:32 PM) I'd say that middle to upper class white americans have blamed other people for their problems. There always talking about how mexicans did this or black people do this. Not all are like that, but a good amount. Oh come on... you are stereotyping all over the place. I'd say middle to upper class white Americans work their asses off, make an honest living every day, and go home and spend time with their families... and very few have "problems", and if they do, they sure as hell don't blame "mexicans" or "black" people. Your comments are just absolutely baseless. -
QUOTE(NorthSideSox72 @ Aug 7, 2007 -> 04:26 PM) Hopefully, it leaves us with a President and a bunch of Congresspeople in 2008 who had NOTHING to do with starting the Iraq war (which by the way discludes all the senators who voted for it). Huh? You mean get rid of them all? , if so.

It's just pure trash and nothing else needs to be said, other then get a f***ing clue like I told you the first time. It has nothing to do with YOU, it has to do with your ignorant post. -

QUOTE(max power @ Aug 7, 2007 -> 04:26 PM) They will probably dump jose, and use that 10 million toward the bigger contract and about 15 million more to patch some crap up. Resign uribe (5 million), arb for crede(another 5 million), richar at 2b, Fields in left, someone else new in the outfield, and about 8 more million in bullpen help. Its not unrealistic for a team that is top five in attendance in the AL. I didn't say it was going to work, not sure if that team will win the central, but I am sure Kenny will be trying to compete. Why does everyone think that Jose is "dumpable"? The rest of your comments are dead on arrival right after that comment. Thanks for playing XBOX Chicago White Sox 2007.
