  1. Paul was educating us on Blackbird last night and how it came about. Quite interesting actually. J.S. Bach. And, the "political motivation of the day" was the way he phrased it, or something along those lines.
  2. That is very true. I have a perfect example that I'll tell you all about later.
  3. You crazy Canadian... Happy Birthday!
  4. QUOTE(Texsox @ Nov 21, 2005 -> 03:28 PM) What's that about a blind dog finding an acorn once in a while? It is a very tough issue. What good is manufacturing something in the US that costs more and people won't buy it? You're exactly right on this one. We are too greedy for our own good.
  5. They are closing a plant in Ontario. Oh wait, you said overseas. This will affect their suppliers as well.
  6. QUOTE(Texsox @ Nov 21, 2005 -> 02:52 PM) I'm guessing Jesus kicks the crap out of the guy You're just wrong. Good one.
  7. QUOTE(Texsox @ Nov 21, 2005 -> 02:49 PM) We will never know how Allah determines who are martyrs, but we do know how the crazies will view it, and how they will react. Why worry about the afterlife, when here and now is much more relevant? Wow. That's a pretty agnostic statement.
  8. Now I see why you made the comment in the other thread. I hadn't see this - but I think it was in my b****ing about their midnight vote that they took to cut a bunch of s***. If this was a part of that, I did post something about it ripping their ass.

    Eating well

QUOTE(Texsox @ Nov 21, 2005 -> 02:28 PM) My boys are really learning to cook. I challenged my Scouts to improve their cooking and menu planning this weekend. The results was me gaining some weight. Breakfast Saturday was easy donuts. They deep fried the dough in a dutch oven and tossed them in cinnamon sugar or powdered sugar. Lunch was a beef soup. It could have used some noodles, but it was still very good. A friend of mine had his Troop at the same camp so we combined dinners for a feast of sorts. My guys made a beef roast with carrots, potatoes, and jalapenos. They also made a chicken and stuffing dish. My top cook added the "trinity" of celery, onions, and peppers to the chicken dish and tossed in some mushroom soup. It turned out perfect. For dessert they made a cherry cobbler. The next breakfast for suppose to be blueberry muffins, but they forgot we don't have muffin tins so they made one giant muffin and started calling it Smurf™ Cake. I love it when they actually learn some things. One kid was making his first campout and was so excited all weekend. Where'd ya all go for camping? Just around you locally?
  10. QUOTE(Texsox @ Nov 21, 2005 -> 02:19 PM) I just think it is better to post the current statements and comment on that. It seemed to be a slow weekend and I'm guessing no one had a chance to post Bush's current quotes. It would be like one of the Liberals around here posting that no one posted that the GOP controlled House voted themselves a pay raise while cutting food stamps. I sure as hell do. But I can see both sides of an issue usually.
  11. QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Nov 21, 2005 -> 01:36 PM) Piecemeal is hitting the newswires now -9 assembly plants closed, 3 service and one parts... -30K manufacturing jobs cut by 08 -capacity to be cut 1 million vehicles per year by 08 -most cuts to be through attrition/early retirees -"significant" charge expected to pay for revamp Of course GM is up almost 3% on instinet trading. That disgusts me. Welcome to Amerika.
  12. The irony is that there are about 50 posts here and in other threads condeming the "viscinoussness" of the White House on Rep. Murtha. When the tone changes, and something good is said, *crickets*. It definitely says that with the notable exception of Rex Kickass talking about Isreali progress, how quick to point out all the faults of the current administration is, but when something is done to try to bridge the "hostility", it's not recognized. So go chew on your pretzel.
  13. It amazes me the tone when people are challenged around here. The patronization is amazing. It's kind of like our president.
  14. Well, here we go, several communities are on edge this morning as we await the press conference on the latest round of plant closings. The press conference is at 7:30 Central time.
  15. Well, I'm off here in about 15 minutes. My, what a great way to spend a Sunday evening, with Paul and 20,000 of his closest friends.
  16. News reports are coming out that Al-Zarqwai may have been killed this weekend in Mosul. You can think of this on one of two ways - we finally got him... or... he's been dead for months and now that the s*** is hitting the fan, they're releasing the news on a big fish getting killed. Take your pick. I'm sure for most here, this is a "timing" report. Either way, if they got him that's a big target to go down. And yes, I know, others will take his place.
  17. QUOTE(NUKE_CLEVELAND @ Nov 20, 2005 -> 05:25 PM) Im sorry it came to that with him. It was so much fun to throw up and ally-oop ( threads trashing palestinians ) and watch him get the dunk. haha Me too. I disagreed with his positions a lot, but he always held true to what he believed and didn't waffle on what he thought.
  18. I just saw this. That's good news for all the travelers.
  19. QUOTE(Rex Kickass @ Nov 20, 2005 -> 03:30 PM) I went to Whole Foods for the first time last night. I was really digging the mostly organic place. Then I found out their employment practices are akin to Wal-Mart. Union busters and 37 hour work weeks to avoid having to pay benefits. Dead to me. Whole foods is not bad - especially the organics. And Rex, just stop shopping then. Most retail stores do that now, whether they admit it or not. And if they don't do it, everything in the store says "made in China" - see child labor laws that we hold so near and dear to our heart. It's a f'ed up world we live in.
  20. QUOTE(sox4lifeinPA @ Nov 20, 2005 -> 12:44 AM) there are two wegmans within 20 minutes of me Sounds sorta like Central Market here in Dallas. That place kicks ass. They import all the good stuff and they have the freshest vegtables ever. They have olive bars, salsa bars, imported food from all over the place, they make stuff that you can buy there that you can't get anywhere else. It's basically a grocery store for yuppies and other hoidy toidy well to do folks - I like to go there for a diversion once in a while, or if I want something really, really fresh.

Basically, nothing short of removing the entire executive branch of our government is going to satisfy your requirements. "Lay everything bare" of the allegations and deceit that is proposed here is nothing short of treason and would call for the immediate removal of all those involved. That's the ultimate goal of this path of thinking, and I don't think that could please some anymore (and I'm not saying you, Jim (or for that matter most everyone on this board), I know you have a lot more respect for our country then that). At the end of the day, though, all of this comes down to that. That's why the letting of the blood keeps getting nastier and nastier. And at the end of the day, if all these allegations are true and we really go down that path, that's the end of the United States of America.
  22. QUOTE(Benchwarmerjim @ Nov 20, 2005 -> 02:16 AM) I am really digging this topic. Good, healthy discussion I was home last night and was watching CSPAN when the whole argument was going on (I've got nothing better to do! lol) and I couldnt believe how... poisionous the words were in the House. I think it stemmed from Thursday when they went late into the night to do a budget vote (which almost failed) and the speeches then were very bitter But I think this was sort of therapeutic. This speeches that is, not the spin. I really hate the spin that is going on. Just listen to what what the politicians say, not what some analyst of politics says. Anyway, I say that because you could just tell there was this big build up of anger..on both sides. And it just blew up Friday. Now they are on recess. Everyone can take a deep breath. Come back in December and maybe...just maybe get a bipartsian commission or committe together and dicuss things. Hash out idea and really formulate a plan on what to do with Iraq I think what is missing from the debate in the media and on websites and such is the position of people like me. Those who really did not want to go into Iraq, but since we did wanted us to win. When the Republicans attacked John Kerry last year about the 'he voted for the war, but is against the war', thats when I knew I was voted for Bush. Because I could relate to Kerry in that way. What I havent seen, in clear concrete deatils, is a plan on how succeed. John Kerry had a speech a few weeks ago I saw on CSPAN that started to see a plan. And this Murtha deal was another plan that sort of looks good. You hear the Republicans saying for 3 years 'The Democrats have no plan' Well guess what, you guys really havent had a plan for things either. You were just in power and decided to plop a whole bunch of troops in Iraq and just wing it from there Anyway, Im rambling now. I just hope the White House, the Senate, and the House and the Pentagon gets all the ducks in a row, get a good strategy together, and tells us about it I don't think anyone has a "plan" because we've never faced this kind of enemy. All I hear is a bunch of people, both sides of the argument, running around spouting s*** about the issues on both sides about whether or not we should be there, and no one can offer a solution. THAT is the problem.
  23. QUOTE(Reddy @ Nov 20, 2005 -> 05:44 AM) i echo that sentiment. i liked arguing w/ israel4ever It's not often we make the reasons for a "banning" public, but this one we've chosen to. He'd still be here if he didn't threaten people through emails who disagreed with him. I enjoyed his banter and passion for his beliefs, but when you threaten someone because they disagree with your position, it goes too far. That's probably a good lesson to learn for all of us.

QUOTE(FlaSoxxJim @ Nov 20, 2005 -> 01:31 PM) By our side, do you mean the America that has come around to the facte thet they were hoodwinked, or the administration who refuse to give up on a losing strategy because the can't ever accept that the war and everything about it was ill-conceived? I'm not a financial guy, but my brother was. he was the classic over-aggressive trader who I watched lose a bundle on several occassions when his arrogance wouldn't allow him to admit he had a poor position in the market and would 'cut and run' when he should have. It only cost him milions of dollars and not thousands of lives. But think the analogy to the GWB administration's intractable and unchanging position on the war is appropriate. So offer us a solution. What would you have us do?
