I was asking about him last night. timely. Thanks Sounds better than some of the guys on the ML roster.
-
At this point, is he ever going to be a good second baseman? Position change, perhaps?
-
When is Shark serving his suspension? Seems like now would be a good time.

QUOTE (oldsox @ May 13, 2015 -> 06:52 PM) I don't want to speak for Caulfield, but I would guess that a lot of announcers have no idea how great a hitter was Harold Baines. Right but, okay. I thought it was implying that that said something about the Sox farm system, as this is the farm board.
-
Bonifacio shouldn't be on this team. Sox bat him 2nd.
-
Bonafacio in the lineup. Good lord.

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ May 13, 2015 -> 06:02 PM) I find that a bit telling. What does it tell?

So I see it was Junior Guerra. I realize he's 30, but he's been impressive. What's his story? He has these long gaps of nothingness in his career.

I really like that site. I can just click a name and get the player bio - easy to discern which are organizational minor leaguer. What's the deal with this Nolan Early? Seems like a good hitter - not great - but capable.

QUOTE (chitownsportsfan @ May 12, 2015 -> 02:02 PM) Some of that is constantly pitching from behind and using the lower leverage options. Right - which means the bullpen isn't deep. As per using Duke 3 days in a row.
-
3 days in a row, the 3rd against a team that knows him best, doesn't help.
-
Let's get this game. No way the Brewers have a pen.
-
2 good outings in a row for Drabek, each with good K numbers. May be getting close to coming back up and taking some starts. Can't be any worse than most of these guys. Jordan Guerro- wow. Must be near time for the Dash, yes?

QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ May 11, 2015 -> 07:53 PM) I was one of Semien's biggest fans on this site, but it's impossible to judge the trade until after the season. First, we need to see if Shark signs an extension and for how much. If not, we need to see what we end up getting for him, whether it's prospects via trade or a comp pick. Second, it's way to early to draw any conclusions on Semien as a major leaguer, although I obviously believe in his bat. Extension? If he pitches like this we should not only not extend him but we won't get a draft choice for him. If he improves, we may be able to mitigate the losses. But even in his good games this year, he's really labored. The idea of a 73 win team to trade for a 1 year rent was nuts to begin with. (not as bad as Williams trading our top pitching prospect for 1.5 years of a pitcher with a 6+ ERA). Fortunately we didn't trade anyone with that high a ceiling. And this one, of course, was the same demographic as we've seen over and over...some NL pitcher that the Sox get all goo-goo over.

QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ May 11, 2015 -> 08:40 AM) I read this twice, and can't decide if it's serious. You want Rondon over Alexei right now? Alexei is one of the best defensive shortstops in the game, and while his bat is inconsistent he's still overall at least average offensively and probably a little better in the long term. And you want to replace that with ab A-ball guy with raw but interesting defense and no history of any ability to hit? I like Rondon, but that's just getting way too aggressive. How's L Garcia been doing defensively in Charlotte? I assume he's still overmatched at the plate against any good pitcher. Realistically, if the Sox want to improve in areas (like C or 3B) they're going to have to move a good player at least this offseason. And if we aren't in contention in July, by then. Alexei is at the top of that list, so I'm interested in possible replacements.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ May 9, 2015 -> 07:19 PM) So how are those holes going to be filled in between 2015 and 2016 when we have already committed over $120 million to our 2016 payroll assuming we pick up Alexei's option and most of the arb-eligible players? Unless we trade some people who are paid decently away we already have a greater committed salary in 2016 than what we have on the payroll in 2015, and that's with Samardzija walking. How are those holes filled when we have literally no money to spend as it currently stands? Have to trade some player in areas where we have depth and bring up a young player...like SS. Or maybe trade some of our "bounty" in ready prospects for a position where we are thin. And getting some of these pitchers who seem a year away will be helpful too. A lot of these guys seem like they are almost there but just can't find that last rung on the ladder. We're going to need a 3B and a catcher. But I think we're okay in the OF - let Gillaspie shag balls; he's a good hitter against righties and has good value there...nice bat for our bench.

5/9 Reds @ White Sox Doubleheader
GreenSox replied to BaconOnAStick's topic in 2015 Season in Review
If he can't throw 3 pitches he needs to be in AAA. The clowning on the basepaths needs to stop. How many runs did A Garcia's caught stealing cost this team? We started that inning off with 4 straight hits and scored 1 run. Keep Beckham in the utility role - that appears to have been a nice pickup. It's when he gets over-exposed that he gets into trouble. -
QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ May 6, 2015 -> 11:32 AM) Why do you want the team's best player to have less plate appearances? So that he's more productive per plate appearance. So that Eaton can use his speed more...right now it's insane for Eaton to even try to steal a base with Abreu up in the inning. so that when Ventura decides he needs to bunt the 2nd hitter and play for 1 run with Danks pitching, he doesn't take the bat out of the hands of the 2nd to best hitter and reduce the potential productivity for Abreu. QUOTE (HickoryHuskers @ May 6, 2015 -> 11:59 AM) The only lineup where Abreu should be batting #4 is one where you have three guys who reliably get on base 34+% of the time. Otherwise you are reducing his plate appearances for no good reason. Well, you're probably right about that. And that the Sox can't find 3 other hitters who can get on base a decent percentage is why this offense is horrendous. The one positive about the offense this season is A Garcia (if he would stop trying to steal).

Good to see Surkamp back in the rotation. I think he's better there.
-
QUOTE (BigHurt3515 @ May 6, 2015 -> 11:00 PM) Maybe you should run all game next time. but Avi hit Alexei with the cutoff while a runner was going to 3rd and Alexei was able to throw out the guy rounding 1st base. Fundamentals, a White Sox specialty!
-
A Garcia may not walk much, but he's not a hacker either. he knows what he's doing. That was a nice hit he had.
-
QUOTE (caulfield12 @ May 6, 2015 -> 04:30 PM) And a long line of White Sox pitching castoffs "fixed" by Don Cooper. Exactly how long a list is that really? And if you consider how many castoffs were fixed for more than a year, the list gets really short. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ May 6, 2015 -> 02:41 PM) Thompson didn't even get a September call up in a lost 2014 season. Has that much changed in a month of baseball? I doubt it. You're probably right, but this is an organization that has long preferred (as long as KW is in charge) utility level talent and declining veterans to young players with less than exemplary credentials. And that's been true even in lost years.
-
QUOTE (Dick Allen @ May 6, 2015 -> 01:47 PM) Hope he clears. I don't know if he's ever been outrighted, but he is a lot better insurance in Charlotte than previous seasons' versions. Agree
-
QUOTE (Feeky Magee @ May 5, 2015 -> 09:33 PM) Rondon 2014 as a RHH: .303/.352/.576 LHH: .220/.297/.242 2015 as a RHH: .389/.389/.667 LHH: .170/.290/.170 That doesn't include tonight's homer which came as a RHH. Time to ditch switch-hitting? One would think. Can't be any worse against right handers batting from the right side, could he? If all he had was those RHH numbers, he'd be a top 10 prospect.

Well, there's Robinson Leyer. Ugh
