Wow... I just got a call from the head of this program at MU saying that I've been granted a job interview tonight for one of the Accounting internship positions. I thought nothing was going to come of the 'workshop' that was held this weekend, and just like that... an interview. Anyone have any general tips, anything I can do to prepare? Obviously I'm going to want to research the company more. As far as what to bring (besides my winning personality -- BOO YAH!)... it's fair for me, the interviewee, to bring a pen and something to write on, yes? Boy am I nervous. EDIT: My main question is what I should bring... Resume? Cover letter? Writing utensils and (obviously) something to write on? References? If I bring the references, can I just have those at the bottom of my resume? And -- I wasn't really expecting this, so this has jumped up on me and it's why I'm not terribly prepared -- do I need specifics with those references?

AND YOU'LL NEEEE-VER WALK ALONE!

Well, that's depressing... The only positive is that this was the best way to try and convince Taylor to stay true to his LOI. Otherwise, this looks to be the definition of a band-aid hire. I don't like it but I'll give him a chance.

QUOTE(BearSox @ Apr 6, 2008 -> 10:40 PM) Richar already proved he is at least as good as Uribe, plus he offers more speed and from what I have seen, he is as good defensively (if not better) at 2B. He needs 2-3 weeks at charlotte to prove he's healthy and get his timing back. And Richar better pan out, because we gave up a pretty damn good prospect in Cunningham for him. This is insanity. Make all the fat jokes you want about Uribe, he is without a doubt the best defensive second-baseman the Sox have. He may very well be the best SS the Sox have. -
Finally some names!* Without -- and I'll say this right up-front -- knowing a heckuva lot about any of these four guys (I know Buzz can recruit Texas... I have no idea about his coaching abilities, other than the fact that he bailed on New Orleans), I'd rank them as such (shield your eyes, SIU fans!): Lowery McKillop Williams Brownell Thoughts? *As far as Rex, I think I'm reading your comment correctly and... Frankly, Indiana talk dominates a relatively decent amount of this board. I can understand your objection to the U of I talk (even though that was somewhat sparked by me), but I'd say that my talking about Marquette and who the hell they're going to hire to fill the void is perfectly acceptable for this thread. EDIT: I should also add that, to the dismay of many Marquette fans, it appears both Bennett and Miller aren't viable options. It's what I expected, so it's not that big of a hit to me.

Some good news: Akim Aliu signed a tryout-type contract with Rockford because his season with London is over. I hope that means he'll get to play during the AHL's playoffs.

Enjoy it you Nashville scum -- this won't be a regular occurance over the next decade. And f*** JP Dumont, trying to act like tough s***. I actually have to root for one of Nashville or Detroit in round one? And I'm going to start my pining for Hossa now. We need him much more than we need Campbell.

Paul Kariya take an absolutely retarded slashing penalty, and the 2007-2008 Hawks are on their last breath.

TIED UP!

So it's just gonna be one of those nights, huh? Tkachuk with a breakaway and... shoots it wide.

QUOTE(IlliniKrush @ Apr 4, 2008 -> 12:34 AM) The overhead looked clear, as did the one right above the net. There's no bias here - I don't know how anyone can look at that and say it wasn't put in with his hands. Granted, i don't have HD on this game. But unless he doesn't have fingers, that was not the shaft of his stick. They probably used inconclusive and went with the call on the ice. f***ing s***. Either he batted it in with his glove or his stick was above the crossbar. That's an absolutely brutal call. Wow -- how did Erat not bury that one...
-
Complete f***ing bulls*** -- the overhead angle showed he hit it with his glove. What a crock of s***.
-
I enjoy Len Kasper -- he just cited the Bill James Handbook and I believe he's quoted baseball-reference before as well. And he's a Marquette grad. That too.

If you want to feel even more ill before tonight's game, check out the results of the season series between Nashville and St Louis. Ugh ugh ugh -- hate having to rely on the Blues.

Heh... things keep getting worse. Trevor Mbakwe is going to transfer because of a family issue. Supposedly he was going to go regardless of Crean leaving. That would sort of explain why Mbakwe didn't play a lick during the tourney...

QUOTE(SnB @ Apr 1, 2008 -> 02:55 AM) just won back to back cups with the hawks in nhl 08.........in 2012 and 13. These weren't cups because the difficulty was too low either, both were just a blast to play and back and forth. (I only play saturday regular season games, sim the rest, then play the playoffs). I've had such realistic results with this game it's been amazing. This has gone down as the only videogame where I've wanted my 2nd championship more than the 1st. I hope you have the updated rosters -- By-fuuug-lin's slap shot is f***ing awesome in that game. I score at least half of my goals online with a Byfuglien slap shot that the goalie gets a piece of but it ends up trickling in.

Bless this bunch. If Toews doesn't get hurt is there any doubt that they'd have the 8th seed locked up? What an awesome effort... Would it be too much to ask fate for Friday's game to mean something? Please, St. Louis -- don't let Nashville get the full two points tomorrow night.

QUOTE(Tony82087 @ Apr 3, 2008 -> 02:25 AM) I hate this. They really are going to miss the playoffs by a point or two, and I'm going to go crazy. I just can't wait for next season. This is insanely exciting. Everything is going to be magnified. Don't try thinking about last night's St. Louis/Nashville game, either, as that will only get you more pissed off. Seriously... blow a 3-0 lead and a two-goal third period lead? f***ing BS, man...

QUOTE(SleepyWhiteSox @ Apr 2, 2008 -> 08:30 PM) It's no big 11, but I've heard the league he's coming from ain't too shabby... Well, Jenks' post is chalked full of homerism/Big 10 favoritism. Almost as homer-istic as his prediction of U of I finishing second in the Big 10.

QUOTE(scenario @ Apr 2, 2008 -> 07:22 PM) You can stop beating your chest any time now Illinois boy. Marquette is an outstanding university, not just a "fine Catholic school in the greater Milwaukee area". If that is what you think, you're only displaying your arrogance, ignorance, or more likely - both. I don't think there's a whole helluva lot wrong in that statement -- I don't see that statement at all demeaning to Marquette. It was more him just saying that in the basketball sense, it's tough to assert that Marquette is a more popular destination than U of I is.

QUOTE(fathom @ Apr 2, 2008 -> 05:09 PM) Latest update on Tyshawn Taylor is he will get out of his LOI, but won't be allowed to go to Indiana. The source thinks he'll sign with Ga Tech in 2 weeks. They're going to wait until the new coach is hired -- I think that much is certain. Who knows, maybe I'm wrong.

I want an outside take on this question, because I think my perception is much too isolated and close to the situation: Is Marquette really a good enough program to lure someone like Miller away from Xavier? Or, speaking more generally, where does Marquette rank in the country -- when taking everything into account, i.e. practice facilities, potential $$$, tradition, recruiting-prospects, whatever else you want to base it on -- as far as basketball programs? I'm just trying to get a gage on just how appealing (or 'not' appealing) the vacancy may look to people not so close to the program (i.e. people who probably have a tad more objectivity than I may have)?

Fathom -- I saw the Taylor quote and I'll highlight the part that I focused on (probably because I'm trying to look for some good in today): If Marquette doesn't cheap out -- and as of right now (things could change) I have no reason to believe that they will -- they should be able to bring in a pretty damn good coach who might be able to convince Taylor to stay. As far as Weber, Marquette still has Buzz Williams aboard who, IIRC, is pretty damn good at recruiting the south (I'm pretty sure Scouts or Rivals credited the Taylor signing to Buzz). Recruiting would obviously be listed as a flaw of Weber's, but I don't think he's absolutely terrible in that department (he's got some good classes coming to U of I in the not-so-distant future, right? The guys in 99's sig?) and I think his positives (mainly that he's a great defensive coach -- I completely agree with 99 in that I'd much rather have my team struggle on the offensive end than on the defensive end) far outweigh the negatives. I guess we shall see in the coming days. I hope you U of I fans don't mind my 'hoarding' of Weber for the night -- I don't think this is a completely ludacris scenario (although most likely not going to happen). Scenario, as far as Miller... I don't see that happening for a couple of reasons. It's been said that he's got his eye on the Pitt job for a while. He's also got a ridiculous buy-out, and finally, I don't see Marquette as enough of an upgrade to leave Xavier. I think the best thing you and I can hope for is Marquette's (and the boosters') willingness to continue to pay the next MU coach like a top ten coach in the country.
