  1. QUOTE(Rex Hudler @ Mar 15, 2008 -> 01:07 AM) Sweet! IU gets to kick Illinois ass for the 3rd time this season. BAHAHAHAHAHA! Us kids call that PWNAGE now-a-days...
  2. Absolutely putrid reffing in the Marquette/Pitt game -- f***ing terrible. f*** you, Tim Higgins. I'm very happy with Marquette's showing in the tourney and proud as hell tonight. I'm fairly certain they've earned themselves a five seed (at worst a six).
  3. w00t! Great great second half for Marquette. The two Hillcrest kids were phenomenal, Barro was great and James did what he needed to do. As far as I'm concerned, Marquette has done what they've needed to do -- anything else (in this tourney) is gravy. This win should solidify Marquette as a #5 or 6 in the tourney. That's pretty reasonable, right?
  4. QUOTE(Texsox @ Mar 13, 2008 -> 10:35 PM) Alcohol is used to sterlize instruments. But you are right, alcohol should be banned. Why make this statement? It certainly seems like nothing more than baiting. Unless I'm thinking it's sarcastic and you're actually serious...
  5. I'm fairly certain that Fukudome didn't hit more than 30 homers in a season in Japan. //goes and checks baseballcube Okay, he's done it twice -- 34 looks to be his high. He's what, 31, and coming to a much more difficult league. If I were you I'd put as much money as your co-worker is willing to go with this one -- I'd say the only way Swisher doesn't hit more homers than Fukudome is if Swisher gets hurt (which can be said about any sports-related bet). Bet the house, the mortgage, the kids -- bet it all, man.
  6. I apologize to anyone who watched any part of the Marquette/Seton Hall game. If I could refund you two hours of your life, I most certainly would. What a terrible basketball game.
  7. Can anyone actually put up a strong case as to why pot should stay illegal? As was mentioned earlier in the thread, it seems like the burden of proof is always on the pro-legalization people. Steve sort of did this with the 'no sobriety test for it' defense -- which has, quite obviously, spurred a lot of conversation -- but in any case, that doesn't seem like a great reason to keep it illegal. As has been mentioned, there's a ton of other things that impair driving. Is there anything else the anti-legalization people can really point to? It certainly can't be a medical issue, as I can think of -- you can't OD on pot, and there's an argument to be made that even things like trans-fats (these are the oils/fats used in fast-food restaurants, correct?) are worse, yet those aren't illegal. There's also the fact (or I'm pretty sure it's a fact) that pot has no physical addiction and isn't a gateway drug (although that may be more subjective). And Tex... do you have an opinion on this one way or another? On here (Soxtalk), it seems like you like to play devil's advocate a lot (maybe that's not true?), and it seems like you may be doing that here. Do you lean one way or another? It's a serious question with no 'snark' intended.
  8. Law was a scout with the Blue Jays, not to mention assistant GM in Toronto. He was also at the game, as he had comments about Rangers players as well. But you're right -- it's probably just stupid blogger hearsay crap.
  9. The Hawks are getting out-everythinged tonight -- out-played, out-hit and out-skated. Kudos to Crawford for hanging tough.
  10. I love Tadahito Iguchi just a little bit more because of this quote: That's wonderfully hysterical in so many ways.
  11. QUOTE(fathom @ Mar 10, 2008 -> 06:52 PM) Two comments: 1) Owens was never not the leading contender to be the 3rd outfielder. Ozzie has said all along that if he can play the way he did at the end of last year, he'd be starting. 2) If the Sox feel like Uribe is good enough to start at 2b, then the Garland trade becomes even worse. It's funny... we very may well have a situation where our best defensive SS is playing 2B. "Past a diving Cabrera" may be a phrase we hear a bunch this year. I'm with Tony -- as of right now, it's tough to see any semblance whatsoever of a plan or of a direction. What's worse is that (some) people may be blaming this on Ozzie, but if Kenny really felt strongly about the faith he had in guys like Richar and Quentin, he would've made it impossible for Ozzie to do anything else but pencil in Quentin into LF and Richar into 2B. Kenny deserves as much lashing as Ozzie does -- if you don't give Ozzie his little play-toys (Owens, Podsednik, Erstad), he'll do fine, even if it means a couple more expletive rants throughout the year (which, being quite honestly, is never a bad thing -- Ozzie opening his mouth ranks in the top ten in actual good things about this organization).
  12. QUOTE(JoeBatterz @ Mar 10, 2008 -> 02:05 PM) Does Rick Morrissey from the Tribune read this board. Sure looks like Controlled Chaos' original post in this thread might have provided some motivation for his article today "Sox may have (computer) chip on their shoulder" Nah, the media wrote the same trash last season when PECOTA projected the Sox to go 72-90... ...and the Sox promptly went 72-90 (okay -- to be fair, Pythag had them at 67 wins, so PECOTA was actually optimistic about the Sox). f***ing computers. Those BP guys need to get their heads out of their spreadsheets.
  13. Where is that certain poster at who's been rubbing mine and another posters face (in what I'm not exactly sure) in Lalime's awesomeness? Terrible time for his worst performance of the season. Oh well...
  14. QUOTE(Fotop @ Mar 10, 2008 -> 03:41 PM) I mean I hate to single out ONE play, but a guy of his caliber needs to be a ton smarter at the end of the GTown game. How the heck do you hack Wallace like that? The dude was basically chucking up a prayer fallaway three. Just makes me think his basketball IQ is lacking...fair or not. Okay, now you've gone too far -- that's a shot below the belt, man. Why you gotta bring up the Georgetown game? Yeah, his game management down the stretch there wasn't very great. He's done that 'strip' play a ton this year and usually gets away with it but right there you just gotta put a hand up and if Wallace hits it over you... tip your cap. I can't comment on the Thomas comparison as I can only recall seeing Thomas a handful of times, but you're certainly not the first one to put the two side-by-side. I'll say this about James -- he certainly has his flaws and I don't think anybody will ever confuse him for one of the better PGs in college basketball. That being said... he brings it defensively, night-in night-out, moreso than anybody on Marquette save for Wes Matthews. Now that I think about it, I have no issues at all with saying James is, in fact, a better defender than last year's BE Defensive PotY, Jerel McNeal. Offensively, we've talked about his shooting, but I can't imagine how Marquette is going to function when he eventually leaves. He's the only guy who can consistently get into the lane whenever he wants. On top of being an athletic freak, he's also a top-notch passer as well. The biggest thing I can say about James is that whenever he's on the floor, Marquette is a much better team -- that includes when he's in the midst of a 2-for-11 night from the field, too. I should also mention that during his freshman year he also had Novak. When he can attack the basket 1-on-1 and not have to worry about a help-side defender crashing down because said defender is glued to Novak, that makes it very tough for the guy who's guarding James. Despite what John Saunders would have you believe, Dan Fitzgerald is no Steve Novak. I'd imagine teams are also zoning Marquette more as -- once Novak left -- Marquette doesn't have anyone who you'd call a superb three-point shooter. But getting back to the tournament itself, I don't think either of our teams (or Seton Hall, if that's what's in the cards) will get by Louisville. And that's not necessarily a bad thing, either -- going 1-1 in the tourney would be a fine result for either team (a little moreso for ND). I think the extra rest is probably more benificial than having to go up against Louisville followed by Georgetown or UConn.
  15. Nah there will be no blasting from my side. Couple of things: - At this point, who is "overrating" James? The book is pretty much out on him. He's a streaky shooter who, more often than not, is in a bad streak (thus making him a below average shooter). If anything, though, I don't think people understand how good he is on the defensive end. After watching a majority of their games the past two seasons, I'd say James is every bit the defender McNeal is, even better. - I'm conceding that Harangody will get his -- and by "get his" I mean drop anywhere from 25-40. He's going to score, and he's going to score a lot. You're right -- we don't have an answer for him. Mbakwe, Barro and Burke will be there to not give him any *great* looks, but that's not going to shut down Harangody. Someone else is going to have to step up for ND, though. Kurz and Ayers can give MU some trouble -- those lengthy #4s tend to screw with us quite a bit. McAlarney and Jackson... ehh, again, not terribly worried. I think McAlareny combined for less than 20 (or right around there) in his two games versus MU -- Marquette has the guards to keep up with him. - Your last paragraph is right on the money. If ND forces a half-court game and can prevent MU from getting out in transition, I'd say ND will take it relatively easily (double digits). In any case, it should be fun... if Marquette is lucky enough to get to the second round.
  16. QUOTE(Brian @ Mar 10, 2008 -> 02:04 AM) As much as I hate to say this, I may have to take Notre Dame. Not a chance in hell. Nope -- not a chance. In fact, I was just going to post how glad I am that Marquette -- if they're lucky enough to make it to round two -- won't have to face UConn and instead gets ND. So... If ND gets by (what will most likely be) Marquette -- which is no given, seeing that Marquette pounded ND at home by about 30 and lost by all of three at ND. And I'm not just being a Marquette homer, either, it's just how Marquette matches up with ND. Harangody will get his but Dominic James eats Kyle McAlarney's lunch -- they won't get by Louisville. Book it. Except the whole Marquette thing. The way they're playing now I'm sure they'll f*** me over and lose to Seton Hall on the first night.
  17. http://www.muscoop.com/index.php?topic=6727.0 First post.
  18. When you see highlights of the play... you can't make a better pass than whoever just made that play (Cogliano?). Christ... right on the tape.
  19. QUOTE(whitesoxfan101 @ Mar 9, 2008 -> 09:21 PM) OT, and Edmonton is deadly in the shootout. One point isn't good enough, gotta get something done here. 2-2 = deadly? Unless you include the shootout -- they pwn nasty-style in the shootout.
  20. What do you guys use? Sideways Wii remote? Remote with nunchuk? Classic? Gamecube controller? I'm getting used to the controls. I'm also sort of confused about the 'B' button super smash (or whatever it's called). Say I'm Samus -- obviously there's the one move where you charge up his gun and shoot the gigantic ball. Does Samus have another *special* beyond that? The instruction guide makes it seem so although I'm (apparently) an idiot and can't figure it out. One more thing... I'm pretty sure I could find the answer to this somewhere online but you guys are as good a resource as any, so... I can buy a GameCube controller for the Wii and use it without having to by some converter/adapter, right?
  21. Staios knocked it into his own net. The puck was in mid air about two feet in front of the crease, Byfuglien batted it with his glove and it hit the Staios stick who was whacking at it to clear the puck.
  22. Hawks don't deserve to win. Their defensive coverage has been brutal and Lalime hasn't been much better. Also -- leave it to Savard to tinker with something that was working. Byfuglien has been doing a phenomenal job in front of the net yet Savard feels the need to put him back on the point. I also love how he has Ladd and Byfuglien on-- BYFUGLIEN! That goal was all him -- what an effort!
  23. QUOTE(Buehrle>Wood @ Mar 6, 2008 -> 11:27 PM) I would say bad idea. GH2 is way better when it comes to guitars IMO. Also, this won't work if you have the Ps3 version. Any SSBB tips yet? I'm learning the controls as I never had a GameCube so I wasn't able to get the last SuperSmash.
