  1. QUOTE(Controlled Chaos @ Feb 13, 2008 -> 04:26 PM) I can't believe more people aren't into it. Because deep down, I don't think people really care. The media is trying to blow this up into something bigger than it actually is.
  2. Yet another thread moved to admin record-keeping? The 'naughty' (however that's defined) posts just couldn't've been removed? Sigh...
  3. QUOTE(Buehrle>Wood @ Feb 13, 2008 -> 05:17 AM) IU hit up with more major allegations, won't get punished until Summer. "Hah! Hah!" -Nelson Muntz
  4. There's a post on Stuy's boards saying the Hawks and Wings have agreed to play an outdoor game at Soldier Field. That's not really surprising, I think anyone who's been paying attention knew that was coming -- just a matter of when. Taking this further, it wouldn't surprise me if they get the game as early as next season -- the game would be an insta-sellout and the two other outdoor games have (apparently) gone fantastically well for the league. Still a ways off, obviously, but that's going to be one helluva unique experience.
  5. I don't think Lavin was exaggerating too much -- that's one of the better college basketball games I've watched all year. Great atmosphere, two quality coaches (and, of course, very good teams) going at it.
  6. Peter Forsberg isn't coming to Chicago, and Bolland will play tomorrow night. Glad Bolland is back -- I like him and Skille the best out of the non-Toews/Kane young forwards. And with Hendry... he's been a fine fill-in defenseman, a lot more cometent than Zyuzin and Richmond, that's for certain. He's a nice depth guy to have -- probably shouldn't be in your top six but doesn't look terribly stretched as a #6. Nothing more than that, though...
  7. People will talk about the Barker goal being completely lucky, but the two goals the Canucks scored were also extremely unlucky (for the Hawks). Their first goal -- Sharp hits the post and it bounces to an open Canuck-player who's standing on the blueline. He feeds it up to Burrows and Khabbi didn't have much of a prayer there. The second goal... My God... what a f***ing bounce. Hits off Kane's (?) leg and bounces right on Naslund's tape -- are you f***ing serious? Don't get me wrong -- the Hawks were outplayed tonight, and probably deserved this outcome, but damn if they can't catch a break right now. Also -- why am I seeing Yanic Perrault out there NOT ONLY on the power play, but also playing 4-on-4 as well? Even with Havlat out, there's NO excuse for that. f***ing Savard is really, REALLY starting to grate the nerves.
  8. Yanic Perrault on the power play? Are you serious? f*** you, Savard.
  9. Since I'm one of the few Big East followers here, I'll put in my .02 for Louisville. Louisville is pretty deep and, now that they're healthy, are either the best or second best team in the BE. They can hit threes, play inside (four or five deep in the frontcourt) and play some pretty wild defense. I don't think Georgetown is a National Title contender, but they're in that next group that inches up to the Kansas', Memphis' and UNC's of the NCAA. So long as they're a two seed, it's tough for me to see them getting knocked out before the Elite 8. And I'll also throw UConn in the mix as well -- Thabeet is a f***ing monster and Adrien is one of the five best players in the BE (my opinion). Again -- probably not a National Title contender, but not a team I'd like to see in the tourney.
  10. QUOTE(MurcieOne @ Feb 10, 2008 -> 08:00 AM) He's actually scheduled to be back next Sunday, and assuming he's actually healthy i think he will help balance out the offense as it was earlier in the season. I caught that -- I thought the surgery meant he was going to be out a bit longer. His shot from the point will be a welcome addition to the power play, that's for certain.
  11. Someone got a picture of Rick Pitino's all-white suit tonight? He changed it at halftime, kind of funny (odd?)...
  12. QUOTE(MurcieOne @ Feb 8, 2008 -> 11:05 PM) To take a line from your own argument, he should play top six "for now" when the team is barely keeping themselves in the race. A good team, would have Ruutu producing or playing 3rd line minutes. Williams Lang Havlat Sharp Toews Kane Ruutu Perrault Byfuglien/Bourque I'd be okay with that, but I'd have Bolland centering with Ruutu and whoever on the other side (Skille?). My contention is having Ruutu (a) playing with scrubs like Adams, Eager, Lapointe and/or Burish and ( B ) play on these 3rd and 4th lines when it's OBVIOUS that he's better than some guys ahead of him (mainly St Pierre). Also -- Williams isn't going to be back for a while, so Ruutu should certainly be top six at least until then. And I wouldn't even trade Seabrook straight up for Patrick Marleau. Marleau is very good, don't get me wrong, but Seabrook is blossoming very nicely into a (at the very worst) middle pairing defender. And San Jose can "look" at Seabrook all they want... Hell, they can "look" at Toews and Kane and Keith, too -- those guys aren't going anywhere.
  13. QUOTE(MurcieOne @ Feb 8, 2008 -> 10:23 PM) I'm the biggest Ruutu apologist ever... but there is no way defend the way he played earlier in the year. He didn't deserve to play on the top 2 lines, because he wasn't willing to play the kind of power forward role Savvy designed for him. Ruutu wasn't scoring, but the line was dominant. Ruutu was opening up space for Kane and Toews just by hitting everything in site. Ruutu's also one of the better players on this team at mucking in the corners -- guys like Lang, Havlat and (to an extent) Sharp don't do that. They certainly don't hit like Ruutu does, either. I'll continue to say that Ruutu has the skill-set to score goals. He hasn't this year, but there's no reason -- with other good players, not third line muckers -- that Ruutu can't or won't score goals. He's 24 years old. Obviously if he starts asking to be paid big money this offseason, you go in a different direction. But for now, there's really no reason Ruutu shouldn't be playing in the top six.

    Films Thread

QUOTE(Kalapse @ Feb 5, 2008 -> 02:47 AM) The fact that they had to cut the third season almost in half still pisses me off. A show as good as AD deserves a proper send off, (after say the 12th season or so) hopefully they can get this thing into production and end the story on their terms. The thing is, them only having 3 seasons sorts of make you appreciate it all the more. Plus, I have this (untested and rather random, if I may say so) theory about most TV series... a majority of them reach a point where they just run out of 'funny'. This is all completely subjective, but I've seen it happen with two of the series' I used to cling to -- The Office and Entourage*. The Simpsons, IMO, is the longest standing one -- perhaps Seinfeld is close or better? -- that maintained its 'funny'. Otherwise, Curb Your Enthusiasm is still decent but (IMO) not as good as the earlier seasons. I'm walking a very fine line of subjectivity here, too, that's why I added a couple IMOs up there. I'm fairly certain Arrested Development could've maintained some good 'funny' for at least another season or two, but -- just like the new Strokes album that will probably come out sometime in 2009 -- I'm fearful that for a crappy A.D. movie. That being said... I have to say I'm very excited to see them doing this as I would definitely see that movie the day it came out in theatres. And I should probably have more faith in the guys who made (what I consider) the best comedy series ever. *I've always considered Entourage more of a 'drama' than a comedy, but I still say that the show has gotten progressively worse.
  15. Meachem is seriously 1-of-10 from the field? Yikes. I also seriously need to stop typing 'seriously'.
  16. Trade Havlat for picks? I think we're past that point in the rebuilding. Don't get me wrong -- young is good, and if some team wants to give the Hawks a bounty of picks + prospects, then by all means do it. Otherwise, I think the Hawks should be looking for players who can step in by next season and be ready to contribute at a (relatively) high level. I'd say the *ideal* Havlat trade would be to a team that needs a scorer and has a back-up goalie who could be ready to step in as a starter. Unfortunately, I don't think that situation exists.
  17. If Forsberg wants to come along on a two-year deal, I'd be fine with it. When he's on the ice -- which obviously is the huge "IF" here -- he's still a PPG player (or thereabouts). Last year he had 55 points in 57 games. As always, it would depend on the price.
  18. QUOTE(lvjeremylv @ Feb 7, 2008 -> 07:54 PM) First off, there's nothing wrong with being religious, as I myself am a born again Christian. With that said, this is potentially a major problem. If Josh had reservations about whether or not it was "right" for him after just a few short months, who's to say that won't be a problem again in the future? If I were a member of the Sox brass, I would think long and hard about who they are going to hitch their wagon to when it comes to the 3B of the future. I think they should trade Fields and hope they can sign Crede to a long-term deal (I've been saying this for a long time, based soley on Crede's merit as one of the best 3B in baseball IMO, so this is not a new position of mine). If that were to fall through, at least they'd have Alexei waiting in the wings as a potential fill-in for 2009. The Sox could probably get a pretty nice return for Josh, I would imagine. Good thing we're not overreacting to this. Nope, not one bit.
  19. Krush, I'll sum up your post a little more succinctly: We f***ing suck. Whereas earlier in the year we were competing night in, night out with these teams -- where we looked like we belonged on the ice with the better teams in the West -- now we're lucky to compete with the bottom feeders. It's terrible -- is one player really that damn important? I understand that Toews is really, really good, but cripes -- the wheels have completely fallen off without him. Also -- can we stop with this stupid St. Pierre experiment? There's at least two guys who ought to be on the powerplay right now instead of him. What does he do? I'm asking, honestly -- what does he do? He doesn't shoot, he doesn't stand in front of the net, his vision (passing) doesn't seem particularly great... I mean, guys like Skille and even Versteeg have shown something when given time, but damn -- I don't see a whole helluva lot in St. Pierre. Perhaps I'm being too harsh. I think it's just that there's AT LEAST two guys who ought to have his spot on the powerplay. It's a f***ing travesty that the only player worth a damn over the past several games (Ruutu) -- a guy who has seemingly done everything Savard wants out of his players (crash the net, play physical) -- can't be in the team's top six, especially with Toews on the sidelines. And f*** this "veteran" bulls*** too. When everyone is finally healthy (sans Williams), here's what I want to see (but probably won't): Ruutu - Toews - Kane Sharp - Lang - Havlat Byfuglien - Bolland - Skille Bourque - Dowell - Burish Craig Adams never should've been acquired in the first place. There's 600K gone for next year because his ass is signed through next season. Lapointe and Perrault can go, too -- Burish does everything that Lapointe can do and Perrault just sucks.
  20. I looooooove college snow-days. B)
  21. So at this point in the night, what should I be paying attention to -- how much Obama can close the gap in California?
  22. I've been told my ugly mug was featured for a good three-seconds during the Marquette game tonight. I'm a superstar.
