QUOTE(Big Hurtin @ Oct 21, 2007 -> 02:34 AM) I thought Cleveland was a " f***ing damn good team" too, no? They aren't playing their best. So if a team doesn't play their best, it's considered choking? Where did I say it doesn't? I'm saying it's one great team beating another great team -- that happens. You're taking it to the extreme saying it's a choke job, saying that "your eyes" can tell they're choking. Yes, I can picture Grady Sizemore and Travis Hafner holding each other tight in the clubhouse, scared of big ole Fenway Park. Choke!

Impressive run from Minor there -- juked one guy out of his shoes and stiff-armed another. -
QUOTE(Big Hurtin @ Oct 21, 2007 -> 02:24 AM) If it's not a choke job, then they aren't that good. You can't have it both ways. 10 to 1 after 4 innings is hardly a marginal difference. WTF are you talking about? I don't even have a clue what you're trying to get at at this point, other than the sports radio caller mentality of, "THEY'RE CHOKING!". It's not choking, it's losing a baseball game to a f***ing damn good team.

Choke? Hilarious. These are the two best teams in baseball facing off against each other. Both lineups are extremely tough. Yeah, they're might be some nerves at work here but I love that it can never just be one team is better than the other (on that night) -- there's always got to be a side story. If someone would've told me before the series that it didn't go six or seven games, I would've been shocked.

QUOTE(RockRaines @ Oct 21, 2007 -> 01:41 AM) For the first time in many years, the team actually looks like its having fun, and enjoying playing hockey with each other. That's something that makes this all the more enjoyable. Someone even lays a finger on Kane, there's multiple guys behind Kane who will come to Kane's defense. It's great having Koci, but Wizniewski -- despite his size -- is willing to take a pounding just to stick up for his team, get the team some energy, whatever it is (and I'm selling Wiz short here -- he gets his shots in and rarely gets "pounded", as I put it). That one little guy who was giving s*** to Kane (not Antropov) -- when he skated by the Hawks' bench, I don't think Koci took his eyes off of him. They're a whole bowl of fun to watch.

Awesome win, playing back-to-back nights and not getting to Toronto until early this morning. Puck movement was impressive today, particularly on that Keith goal. I thought Samsonov had his best game as a Hawk -- he's really good when he's got the puck. His vision isn't great and he's got to start scoring, but tonight he was very good. Another two point night for Kane and he very easily could've added a goal or two. This is absolutely fantastic. Great, great win.

f***ing fantastic shift from Samsonov/Adams/Burish there, kept the puck in the Toronto zone for a minute-and-a-half. Awesome. Bury 'em here.

QUOTE(Vance Law @ Oct 20, 2007 -> 07:23 PM) What is Garcia likely to get in free agency? My guess is a deal similar to what Mark Mulder got this past winter -- two year deal where he really cashes in in the second year (so long as his arm progresses as the team expects/wants). IIRC, Garcia isn't supposed to come back til (best case scenario) July 2008, so I'd say something like $4-5 million the first year, $8-11 the second year.

Hockey Night in Canada tonight, wooh! I hope Comcast is able to use the CBC-HD feed that will certainly be used in Canada, although somehow I doubt it. These are the games Comcast should bust out the road HD for, it's a shame that they don't -- O6 matchup in Canada, that place is going to be jumping tonight.

Bucci is doing the midnight Sportscenter, and Bucci has latched onto the Hawks as 'his team' this year. I don't remember the last time I anticipated a Sportscenter moment, but since I love Bucci and know he's going to pimp the Toews and Kane goals, my eyes will be glued to the television for the next hour.

QUOTE(WCSox @ Oct 19, 2007 -> 10:00 PM) Did Sammy Sosa make the Rangers a ton of money when he hit #600? As for 2012, A-Rod will be 37 at that point. If he's not on the juice, what's to stop him from a Thome-like injury-induced decline? How many power-hitters can even pull off a full season at that age? Are Thome or Frank worth $30 million/year at this point? I don't care to comment on whether I'd give A-Rod 10/$300, but you didn't seriously just compare Sosa hitting #600 to A-Rod, did you? And then Jim Thome and Frank Thomas to A-Rod? Jesus... We're talking about one of the top ten players to ever grace the game. I'm usually the last one to say "forget about money, just get him", but again -- this is a guy who may go down as the best player of our generation. If JR is willing to go toe-to-toe with any owner w/r/t A-Rod, God bless him -- I'll be all the happier for it. This wouldn't be the same as the Cubs splurging on Soriano -- far from it. And you're right to say we'd be getting A-Rod's worst years as a player, but A-Rod's worst years will still be better than 90% of MLB players' best years, so...

The Ruutu - Toews - Kane line was wonderful tonight. Zyuzin was bad, as was Keith. MagJo and Sopel were very steady. And the Toews goal... drool. I want to say, "if only they had one more line to take the pressure off of RTK." But they had (have) that line until Havlat went down. Awesome game tonight. There was a second period lull that I semi-expected, but they finished strong, got the two points and didn't let Colorado steal a point in OT. Kudos, and can't wait for tomorrow night's Hockey Night in Canada -- it's a shame we get the Comcast feed instead of the TSN feed but I'll deal with Kelly.

QUOTE(Tony82087 @ Oct 19, 2007 -> 04:16 AM) Just watched tonights episode. IMO, the worst episode in the series. Agreed. Tell me again what Jim and Pam staying at Dwight's house has to do with 'The Office'? And now we have relationships all over the place, how cute -- Jim and Pam, Daryl and Kelly, Angela and Andy... Bleh. Needless to say I don't like where this is going.

QUOTE(fathom @ Oct 18, 2007 -> 11:49 PM) Tell that to Crean and Dominic James. If he's starting his freshman year there, they should have a strong nucleus with Clinch, Aminu, and Lawal. Come on now, you can't compare James to Shumpert. IIRC James was a four star recruit. And if you want to go in that direction, Crean has gotten two guards into the NBA in Deiner (sp?) and obviously Wade. I'd also bet that all three of the current guards are eventually given looks (Matthews, James, McNeal). I'm guessing he chose GT because he's guaranteed to open next season as their PG, whereas UNC and Marquette couldn't *guarantee* those promises. Still, choosing on the merit kind of hurts -- if he wanted to win a national title, UNC is clearly the best choice and I can't imagine GT being in that much better (if at all) of a position than MU is, and a player like Shumpert would've put MU in that pre-season talk heading into next season. -

QUOTE(SleepyWhiteSox @ Oct 18, 2007 -> 11:21 PM) He was ACC from the very beginning and chose the school that was on him the longest. You gotta respect and appreciate that he was loyal to a team on him early rather than the bigger-name johnny-come-latelys... Crean was on him before he blew up during the summer camps, but go ahead, call MU a johnny-come-lately. -

QUOTE(knightni @ Oct 18, 2007 -> 06:30 AM) No listing of the Bulls there, but they have more to trade than Dallas does. (They were the two teams Kobe was okaying a trade to earlier) Gosh I hope so. This Bulls team as currently constructed doesn't strike me as a group capable of winning a title, and this offseason wasn't exactly encouraging. Paxson made a move that parallels Williams signing someone like Eckstein (or Erstad last winter) by going out and overpaying to bring back Nocioni (seriously -- maybe he didn't fit in $$$ wise, but wouldn't Darko've made some sense?). Joe Smith and Noah are aquisitions that are rather tough to get excited about. Don't get me wrong -- the Bulls are a pretty good team capable of playing with just about any team in the East. But I still don't think they're set up well for the playoffs. Gordon is useless defensively and (seems to be) shut down by elite defenders -- he's a guy I've been wanting Paxson to sell high on. Deng is pretty good, but seeing that he has a limit athletically, I think that limits what he can be -- which in and of itself isn't a problem, but I can't see him being the guy to take over a series when they really need it. Ty Thomas is exciting, but can he develop down low? I have no hopes for Noah to develop any semblence of a post-game, and obviously Wallace isn't going to do anything on the offensive end. We should be able to play good defense, though. I guess my problem lies with Ben Gordon. In series' where he's got a Rob Bowen type guarding him, he's completely useless because he's not helping on the other end, and that really, really hurts on the defensive end because he's the guy other teams attack.

QUOTE(fathom @ Oct 18, 2007 -> 03:11 AM) Shumpert to announce at 5:30 on Comcast. I've heard he's going to all 3 places today. http://bp0.blogger.com/_wLC1BvCK-88/RxZ4iO...whitejersey.jpg Also, I deleted that "Lots of UNC rumors" from the quote -- no need for that right now (for this MU fan, at least). Landing Shumpert for MU is a program changer -- landing Shumpert for UNC is just another five star recruit. Good vibes, fathom -- for the next 19 hours I need good vibes -

Marquette's new jerseys. Thoughts? I like the checkerred pattern with the blue but I'm only lukewarm on the whites. Also, can anyone confirm that Shumpert is going to announce at 5:30 tomorrow? -
Havlat's gonna rehab. Four weeks. I'd rather he take as much time as humanly possible and shoot for a later return date, but I'm the furthest thing from a doctor, so... http://www.tsn.ca/nhl/news_story/?ID=220814&hubname=

QUOTE(Palehosefan @ Oct 17, 2007 -> 04:43 PM) Morrow is probably off limits, but Balentien and Jeff Clement might be an interesting package for Garland. You bet -- and it makes some sense because Jojhima isn't going anywhere in the near future and Balentien appears blocked by Ichiro and Jones. Those two would be a fantastic haul for Jon.

QUOTE(DBAH0 @ Oct 17, 2007 -> 04:58 AM) Would he be a guy the Bears would target in the off-season if they couldn't get McNabb? Why, exactly? We either need the "proven" guy -- McNabb -- or a stopgap while a QB we draft in the near future is developing. I'll admit to knowing very little about Losman, but how is he any different from a guy like Grossman?

QUOTE(fathom @ Oct 17, 2007 -> 02:15 AM) You know he's been phenomenal this year? He'd be the 2nd best arm in our pen. Yeah -- Delcarmen throws a legit mid-90s with a very good hook. I'm still pissed that Boston wouldn't include him on the deal -- Dye for WMP and Delcarmen would've been a very good deal for our Sox. Also, him and Fields in the lineup in the lineup at the same time would be quite the spectacle. I'd bet the two would combine for 60-70 homers and 400 Ks.
