QUOTE(witesoxfan @ Oct 25, 2007 -> 04:49 AM) That is not a class I look forward to taking I'm overexaggerating it's difficulty. I don't ever do the homework but have crammed before both tests and currently have something like an AB in the class (which is a B+, A-, or on the GPA scale, a 3.5). Just got done with about five hours going through a chapter and I got it. On that note, most math books piss me off because the examples they use in explaining it don't really help you out a whole lot when you're doing the problems. This book does a very good job of going through problems in the text that are very similar to the ones in the problems section.

Ahhh! to this business statistics test that I've put off studying for until tonight (test is a 2:00 kickoff). Ahh! confidence intervals! Ahh! standard normal distributions! Ahh!

Highlights are up on chicagoblackhawks.com for last night's game. Kane's assist to Wizniewski on the fourth goal is awesome. He fends off two checkers on the goal line to get it to Wizniewski who was pinching in (in the slot) and Wizniewski buries it.

QUOTE(Steve9347 @ Oct 24, 2007 -> 03:52 PM) Yeah, he can still score, rebound, and block. He can score? When did this happen? I know he can dunk, but since when did he learn a post-game? His jump shot is about as ugly or uglier than Noah's and his post-game -- if it's more or less the same as last season -- is pretty non-existant, which is a shame. He should be working on an 'athletic' jump hook, as he can sky over anyone and get a pretty clean path to the rim. Then again, Tyrus doesn't strike me as a calm/composed/poised (for lack of a better word) enough player to develop a strong post-game. Maybe I'm wrong -- the Bulls are certainly the team that I consider myself a fan of yet follow the least... Thomas will continue to be a very exciting player so long as he stays in shape and healthy. He'll have highlight reel blocks and highlight reel dunks. Unfortunately -- at this point -- I view taking Tyrus second (or was it third or fourth?) overall in the same way that I saw the Dolphins taking Teddy Ginn 9th overall -- you want more than 'excitement' with that pick. You need a player you might be able to build a team around, or at the very least a guy capable of starting night in, night out, and I'm not 100% sure Tyrus can do that.

We also get one more year of pre-FA Danks than we would've gotten with B-Mac, so that's something to keep in mind. For the next two years, though, it wouldn't surprise me to see B-Mac put up better numbers than Danks.

White Sox Fall/Winter League Discussion Thread

QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Oct 24, 2007 -> 04:55 AM) I think it's time to at least start paying attention to Bourgeois. If he's capable of playing SS, Alex Cintron shouldn't come near the 2008 team. I'd love to see a scenario where Bourgeois makes the team and Mackowiak is (cheaply) brought back, but I'd bet on the Sox going with the old-and-busted (Cintron + Erstad). -
QUOTE(DBAH0 @ Oct 24, 2007 -> 04:46 AM) Also everyone's been talkin about Kane and Toews for good reason, but I think a guy who's slipped under the radar is Tuomo Ruutu. He seems to be playing very well on a line with those 2, it's EASILY the best for the Hawks. Yeah, he was given the third star tonight and had three points. He might not turn into the prolific scorer we'd all hoped for, but if he becomes a solid second-line player who can consistently give the Hawks 20-25 goals and a total of 60-70 points, he'll be a valuable commodity to have and -- more importantly -- I'll finally have a jersey that I can wear proudly.

Weidemann and Murray also mentioned that Havlat skated at full speed today. I think I'm setting myself up for dissappointment, though -- what happens the first time he gets checked into the boards? When Havlat does come back, I'd hope Savard chooses to be extremely careful with him, although I'm not necessarily sure what that constitutes... quicker shifts? Less overall ice time (perhaps giving Kane an extra shift or two that Havlat would normally have)? The loss tonight sucked, but I expect there to be a lot of crappy losses just as there will be super-exciting wins (and so far the latter has definitely exceeded the former, as losses to San Jose and Minny certainly can't be considered bad losses). It also sounded like Colombus got extremely lucky, capitalizing on just about every scoring chance they had, getting a couple lucky bounces on 'Bulin rebounds. Oh well... next game isn't going to get much easier, at Boston against a good goalie (either Manny Fernandez or Tim Thomas) and a second year player who the Hawks passed on (to take Toews), Phil Kessel.

Gotta beat the teams that you should beat, and tonight is one of those nights.

Shelby finished with a .301/.352/.508 and I'm wondering why I wasn't more aware of this. For a 21 year old in low-A that's pretty good. Unfortunately, it seems his defense has a ways to go. Any idea on what the organization plans for Shelby going forward -- center field, second base? I hope they don't make a rash judgement and stick him in left -- his bat isn't good enough to play there, but if he could get his defense at second or center to be 'passable' or 'mediocre', he'll be an asset in the organization. He, DLS and Carter will certainly be guys to keep an eye on at Winston Salem this season.

QUOTE(witesoxfan @ Oct 23, 2007 -> 07:28 PM) So how impossible would it be to get Carlos Gonzalez and Tony Pena from them? If anything, just don't tell me the Sox would have to settle for Quentin and Lyon from them; as much as I like those two, that just seems a bit below Garland's value, and while I like Lyon, his stuff and numbers just don't scream "consistent setup man" like Pena's do. Quentin and a good, young reliever would be okay with me, so long as Arizona is taking on all/most of the contract. Quentin played most of last season with a shoulder injury -- torn labrum, I want to say -- and his numbers of last season don't tell a lot about the player he is. It's not as good as my ideal Clement + Balentein deal, but Quentin + Lyon/Pena would be pretty fair value.

QUOTE(The Critic @ Oct 23, 2007 -> 04:15 PM) First day Satan can ice skate is November 11th, according to Rozner: http://www.dailyherald.com/story/?id=62313 Rozner is a f***ing dolt. Instead of keeping that article about how the Hawks will be on TV for the first time ever and about how Rocky is changing things, he goes off on a tangent about how the Hawks should trade Khabibulin (yet, at the same time, insinuates that the team should be competing for a playoff spot THIS SEASON). I also love how he insinuates that Tallon has drafted poorly -- that's a riot.

QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Oct 22, 2007 -> 08:37 PM) Well there goes my fantasy team. Fantastic. You're not the only one. I'm sitting in second place right now, and had a pretty phenomenal draft especially considering I drafted 11th out of 12 teams (Brian Westbrook, Brown and Brady, among some other stellar picks by me). Marion Barber will replace Brown. DBAHO, please tell me with his performance against Minny that MB3 will be named starter and Jones will be taken to the glue factory. PLEASE!

QUOTE(The Critic @ Oct 22, 2007 -> 08:38 PM) It wouldn't be difficult at all to fit Hawks games into their schedule. When the Bulls aren't playing, what else does CSN have on their winter schedule? This is good news - I hope they can get this done! At the very least, I'm sure they can fit a handful of games on CSN+ (CLTV). Or, what would be even better would be to get a couple of games on WGN -- get the Blackhawks out there to as many people as possible. Also... Theys' is startin' to recognize!

QUOTE(BearSox @ Oct 22, 2007 -> 03:36 AM) I think we can rule out SS as our first round draft pick next year. Why? You don't draft on need. If the best player available at eight is a SS (consensus, no question), I don't care if you have Jose Reyes in the system with Brandon Wood behind him -- I'm still taking that SS. If you end up having a logjam at the spot, that will be a good problem to have.

QUOTE(redandwhite @ Oct 22, 2007 -> 02:45 AM) You don't agree with me because my handle isn't "Sox Rule Cubs Drool!" or something of the sort. Yeah, that's it. Because I'm "that guy". Right.

QUOTE(redandwhite @ Oct 22, 2007 -> 02:38 AM) It's not choking, it's called the breaks that went the Indians way in games 2, 3, and 4 aren't going the same way in games 5 & 6. Two best teams in baseball, the future World Series Champion IMO. Great baseball right here. Enjoy it. I don't agree with you very often, but I echo your sentiments. This has turned out to be a great baseball game. Boston could've broke it open early, Cleveland bent but didn't break and now is clawing back in it. Unfortunately for them they still gotta find a way to scratch out one more versus (potentially) Okajima, Beckett, Delcarmen and Papelbon. They got the offense to do it, but it's going to be quite the finish (I hope).

My dad called and said Griese's in-helmet mic/speaker wasn't working, so the last drive was all him calling the plays. Can anyone confirm if this is true? I find that rather funny.

QUOTE(Steve9347 @ Oct 22, 2007 -> 12:26 AM) oh do tell us your first hand experience with it mr. knowledge. It's pretty common knowledge, actually. If you had a clue about anything, you'd understand that, but that would be expecting too much, so...

QUOTE(RockRaines @ Oct 21, 2007 -> 08:37 AM) They need to bring Skille back up to ensure the dev of all their young guys. This is obviously going to be a team run by Kane and Toews, so lets bring up all the young talent. Skille wouldn't get enough minutes to justify being up with the big club. His time will come. Ditto guys like Barker, Hjarmlsson (sp), Brouwer and Bolland -- we have several guys on the roster who don't figure to be here beyond this season. It's nice to have this issue of depth. If one of our non-Toews/Kane guys goes down, we shouldn't miss too much of a beat.

Great game between LSU and Auburn going on. Why didn't Auburn challenge the spot on that play? It was clearly short, the ref got the spot wrong by six inches to a foot.
