Of all the offensively challenged players, Ben Wallace and Tyrus Thomas are going nuts. -
QUOTE(Jordan4life_2007 @ Mar 13, 2007 -> 09:38 PM) Man, what happened to Jabroni? He was on his way to surpassing Jason and SS2K5 for total posts. He aint touchin qwerty I'll say that.

QUOTE(Steve9347 @ Mar 13, 2007 -> 09:28 PM) who f***ing cares? cotts couldnt get dick out last year, and he can eat my ass... *this post brought to you by the swear filter... Wow. I've never heard of eat my ass before.

QUOTE(Heads22 @ Mar 13, 2007 -> 08:47 PM) Mark was for a couple of years, but that's opening a different can of worms. I'm with Cheat when he said a couple years back that Buehrle wasn't an "Ace." All in all, your right though. I'm not gonna stur the pot now..

QUOTE(Gregory Pratt @ Mar 13, 2007 -> 08:41 PM) I was responding to the comment that, hey, he's had a lot of relapses by saying -- all drug addicts do. "I quit." Next day, you're lying on the floor with crack running through your system. Just be careful with your words mr. dislocation.

QUOTE(DBAH0 @ Mar 13, 2007 -> 08:19 PM) Ah-ha. We're talking prospects like Chris Volstad here. I'd prefer Sean West.

QUOTE(jphat007 @ Mar 13, 2007 -> 06:34 PM) To this day KW has made some terrible trades, but most of the time he knows what he is doing, and he has shown plenty of times that judging his trades before the results come out is very, very foolish. Like i said earlier, I understand what your sayin, but at the same time when someone is trying to tell you why a certain trade/signing is bad, you go on dense mode. It is hard to elaborate on a particular subject when it's like I'm posting to a wall. i still believe Reed will be a stud but like you said it is still a wait and see. we didnt steal a trade from them. where's Freddy now? He's in another uniform. Where is Reed now? Still in Seattle. I'll say this we did get a championship because that's what KW wanted and that's what matters in the end. He does sacrifice the future for the present and I respect that even though nowadays he's trying to trade quickly to have some future and not just be patient. I probably won't post anymore on this thread so I'll let you add your two cents in.

QUOTE(jphat007 @ Mar 13, 2007 -> 06:23 PM) Don't know. Maybe. Maybe not. NO! I don't even think both have thrown 200 innings in their lives. The sox will do just like what the Tigers did with Verlander. IF they pitch the entire season I can see them pitching about 160-180 innings.
-
QUOTE(Jordan4life_2007 @ Mar 13, 2007 -> 06:22 PM) Jphat, don't forget Freddy is in the NL this year. He dominated NL teams last year. I'd be shocked if he didn't atleast match last year's numbers (era will probably be lower). No way in hell Floyd or Danks will out-pitch Freddy in 2007. Your a smart man. I forgot his dominence in interleague play.
-
It doesn't hurt that Freddy will be pitching against pitchers not named Zambrano, Willis or Hampton (even though he's injured) this season rather than DH's..
-
QUOTE(jphat007 @ Mar 13, 2007 -> 06:18 PM) That doesn't tell me how you KNOW that Freddy will outperform them. You told me why you THINK Freddy will outperform them. Define dense
-
QUOTE(Flash Tizzle @ Mar 13, 2007 -> 06:16 PM) I'll also argue the McCarthy deal was rather ridiculous considering the pieces we picked up. How much better is Danks/Massett than Hirsh/Bucholz? The difference in those packages certainly doesn't equal the large disparity, both in talent and service time left to the team, that Jennings and McCarthy present. That's different Tizz. That other deal would have been Garland not BMac. And I'll take Danks anyweek over those other two. I don't mind the BMac deal much. But the Garcia trade? No. Unless Floyd figures it out and suddenly pitches up to his potential this was not a good trade and it's hard for me to say cause I have supported every trade KW has made even Reed leaving.
-
QUOTE(jphat007 @ Mar 13, 2007 -> 06:11 PM) How do you know that either Danks or Floyd won't outperform Garcia this year. You are speaking in a lot of absolutes considering nobody has thrown a pitch this season. Maybe becase Garcia is a veteran and we know what we'll probably get outta him whereas Danks is a rookie who wasn't that impressive in his short stint in AAA last season and Floyd was in the NL gettin rocked. I will personally eat a ton of crow if Danks or Floyd can out pitch Freddy this entire season and i'm not just talking about one day where Freddy might have been bad whereas one of them might have been good. The ENTIRE season. And just to add Freddy is pitching in the NL and Danks or Floyd is pitching in the tough AL? I'll get my check book ready.

QUOTE(santo=dorf @ Mar 13, 2007 -> 06:08 PM) Who thought that was a stupid trade? There were some on this board (even the smartest posters) that thought it was a bad trade. Alot were LTP fans. Luckally, I never liked Borchard and I was glad we got Thornton and was on the wait and see mode.
-
QUOTE(jphat007 @ Mar 13, 2007 -> 06:05 PM) Many people thought Joe Borchard for Matt Thornton was a stupid trade. COnsidering none of the pitchers involved have thrown a pitch for their new teams, you might be jumping the gun. Whoa, Whoa Whoa, that's WAAAAY different than this trade buddy. Why are you comparing Two first round bust who both had nothing to lose and one was a hitter and one was a pitcher over this trade, this year with all pitchers who we have a solid starter in his walk year?
-
QUOTE(santo=dorf @ Mar 13, 2007 -> 06:02 PM) When Ken Rosenthal is quoting MLB Executives, I'm going to take his word for it. Rosenthal was on top of everything this offseason. I believe Jayson Stark quoted executives for not beliving the Sox couldn't get more. The day he traded Freddy, Schmidt, Lilly, and Meche all signed deals. We traded a our second best starter (behind Contreras) last year, who was coming off a phenomenal September after using a new pitch (similar to Loaiza in 2002) for a small, former Sox farm hand and a guy who flopped in both AAA and the NL last year with one option left. 2007 Garcia + two compensation picks > Gonzalez and Floyd. Stupid trade. Exactly. Everyone in god's green earth knew we were getting rid of Freddy. We did rush a trade to get him out of here and I was surprised that KW wasn't more patient. Alot of horrible pitchers got big deals this off-season and even Peter Gammons himself said that Freddy was the best available pitcher through trade even when Zito was a FA. Even though I don't take Peter seriously, he was right about getting a bargain even if it was one year in a pitcher who has been solid for 5+ seasons.
-
QUOTE(BearSox @ Mar 13, 2007 -> 05:57 PM) Imagine if there was a platoon thing going on in CF w/ Erstad and Rowand. The grinder duo crap would never stop! They would once they collide over a fly ball in between left-center field.
-
QUOTE(jphat007 @ Mar 13, 2007 -> 05:53 PM) I don't care what he says. How do you know that KW didn't ask for the moon earlier in the offseason, and then came back and got Floyd and Gonzalez, two guys he wanted, for Freddy when he saw that Freddy's value sucked. Rosenthal doesn't know that. You don't know that. If you don't think that Rosenthal has any knowledge of officials/excutives within organizations of particular trades or signings, then you are more confusing than I would have dreamed.
-
QUOTE(Flash Tizzle @ Mar 13, 2007 -> 05:35 PM) Bad, unless you consider the hidden intangibles with a 3.2 inning, 9 hit, 6 ER performance. Hey, he had to attack the strike zone to give up those hits right.
-
QUOTE(quickman @ Mar 13, 2007 -> 05:36 PM) i know you didn't post to me, but if it wasn't the best package, then I would have just stuck with freddie until all star time. could have gotten more, or hell maybe we could have been in first place with him. Me and you are on the same page. Like I said earlier on this thread, I highly, highly doubt that was the "best" package we could have gotten considering we rushed into a trade with Freddy.
-
QUOTE(fathom @ Mar 13, 2007 -> 05:34 PM) It was my biggest fear the second we traded McCarthy. I remember how everyone on here thought it would be Haeger in the lead role....then all of a sudden, it's Floyd who seems like the organization favorite to be the 5th starter for NO FREAKING REASON. I still like Haeger winning it. I haven't said much on who should be the starter but that was my pick and I'm sticking to it.
-
QUOTE(fathom @ Mar 13, 2007 -> 05:27 PM) If Floyd and McCarthy pitch this entire season as starters in the majors, I would bet my soxtalk membership that McCarthy would win more games and have a better ERA. I agree. Floyd has better stuff, but BMac overall, is a better pitcher not a thrower. Floyd has all the talent in the world to be a top of the rotation type guy, but I'm not sure if he'll figure it out but I'll give him time. He might be mentally worse than Vasquez even though Javy has at least proven it when he was an Expo.
-
QUOTE(jackie hayes @ Mar 13, 2007 -> 05:09 PM) Crap! I just turned it on as they went to commercial. What'd he say? "I'm the CEO of Lance Briggs" just about says it all. He's disappointed that it's like this but he feels he's doing the right thing. It will air again so don't worry.
-
QUOTE(jphat007 @ Mar 13, 2007 -> 05:05 PM) By the pitches he throws. By how he attacks the strike zone. By how he goes about it mentally. The coaches understand what to look for. QUOTE(jphat007 @ Mar 13, 2007 -> 05:09 PM) Now, if Danks keeps throwing strikes and keeps walks down chances are his numbers will be better than Danks and they'll ulitimately choose him. Unfortunately, everyone, or most everyone, knows that he could still get demolished once the regular season starts. You are very hard to understand.

QUOTE(southsideirish71 @ Mar 13, 2007 -> 05:07 PM) You can put it on the board, Terrero hits a dong off of Francisco. 6-5 bad guys. Terrero has been pretty impressive even though he doesn't get talked about to a degree much.
