QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Mar 18, 2008 -> 05:48 PM) Dude...you're calling this a major gaffe...in the age of George W. Bush. In the age of George W. Bush, I don't even think what you mention there would count as anything but another calendar entry. If he keeps making it, ok. It's a gaffe. People can misspeak. If he keeps making it, then that tells you more about his thinking and that he really might not have the simple details straight in his head. ok, not a major gaff. But it is significant and telling. Like I said, I overstated it. i need to tone that down a bit. I need a bette example.

QUOTE(mr_genius @ Mar 18, 2008 -> 05:43 PM) it's just a slight campaign gaffe. who doesn't say something wrong on accident at times? and he had his buddy Lieberman there to let him know he slipped up a little. It's a significant gaff. it's a fundamental thing. you CANT make major mistakes like that.

QUOTE(lostfan @ Mar 18, 2008 -> 05:23 PM) None of it in and of itself is a big deal, it's just people are going to great lengths to try and call Obama a liar over something he's really not lying about. Maybe he tried to dance around it a little at first as politicians tend to do, but in the end it's still a bunch of trivial details. Take into consideration that i work for a church. last week one of my pastors said he cant trust NBC, CBS, ABC in their news coverage because they are "biased" but Fox News is the most balanced. People BELIEVE these guys and they shape opinions! I dropped the subject because i didnt want to get into a debate prior to a staff meeting.

QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Mar 18, 2008 -> 01:52 PM) Oopsie. This will bite him in the butt. He doesnt even know who is who over there! How are we to trust him to know how to deal with them?
-
QUOTE(lostfan @ Mar 18, 2008 -> 05:14 PM) He was asked specifically about the 9-11 comments several times and he said he wasn't there, in his speech he said he's heard Wright make comments he didn't agree with, or be a sharp critic of U.S. policy since he's been attending the church, or words to that effect. Trying to find a lie in there is in fact spin. ding ding ding

QUOTE(kapkomet @ Mar 18, 2008 -> 05:14 PM) who is HE? Obama? yes
-
QUOTE(Alpha Dog @ Mar 18, 2008 -> 05:03 PM) If he said he never heard it, and then said it did, how is reporting that 'spin'? He said he was not present for THOSE specific comments. He never said he hadn't heard inflammatory comments in the past. THe way Faux News said it was that even though he denied it, today he admitted it. Even though he never said that. It was how they framed it.
-
FOX is already beginning the spin. Even though he said he never heard any racist / anti-america comments (even though he said he wasnt present at the SPECIFIC comments brought up over the weekend) he is now admitting to having heard them (which he said he didnt)

wow. RIP. He was a great writer. I didnt know he was still alive.

QUOTE(bmags @ Mar 18, 2008 -> 04:35 PM) Ugh, CNN right now. This journalism is why TV sucks, and why a lot of newspaper articles suck. Hey, lets get an angry guy on one side who won't agree with any part of the speech, and one who loves the speech and have them yell at each other. *cough* Clinton News Network *cough*
-
QUOTE(lostfan @ Mar 18, 2008 -> 04:30 PM) Agreed. It's something everyone needs to hear whether they like Obama or not. See, and I think this speech transcends a single candidate. It's a commentary and HISTORY lesson on how we got to where we are today. Chris Matthews on MSNBC said this video should be watched by every college student before they enter "the real world".
-
This is a speech that needs to be run in its entirety on every news show this evening. It is THAT important.
-
QUOTE(jackie hayes @ Mar 18, 2008 -> 04:11 PM) You have to wonder what Clinton will do. She claims to have not watched the speech yet, which strikes me as a mistake. She also may make her own speech: which strikes me as an even bigger mistake. http://www.cbsnews.com/blogs/2008/03/18/po...ry3948776.shtml Add in the news that Florida apparently won't revote, and Hillary's all of a sudden much worse off than yesterday. Which I didn't really think possible, but there it is. If she were to try and make a speech on race, she'll get destroyed by the medai. She has NO street cred on race. She is a privileged white woman.

QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Mar 18, 2008 -> 04:03 PM) One of the guys @ the Atlantic (usually pretty good place) is claiming that Obama wrote the whole speech himself, no speechwriters. I can believe that. People dont give him enough credit for his oratory skills. When he has a chance to sit down and think, he can blow anyone out of the water. he as not as good when he "thinks on his feet", but when he can think, meditate, and revise.. he is one of the best. Compare this to GWB who even WITH speech writers sounds like a bumbling idiot.
-
QUOTE(NorthSideSox72 @ Mar 18, 2008 -> 03:58 PM) He has been. I've been saying for a while, relative to the other candidates in either party, I think Obama is by far the most forthright. This is no different. I think so too. When he sat down over the weekend to talk Rezko, everyone was like "wow. he was open. he's never told us some of this before. how frank." The problem was that he has been. It just has been in parts over time, not in a single sitting or speech. On his race speech today, he was frank because he HAD to be. The clinton campaign and Fox has tried covertly to make him balck when he ran as just an american in IA and NH. SC made him "black". So, he needed to address it.
-
I havent really commented on the speech. So, I thought I might take a moment to flesh out my thoughts. I think the speech was outstanding. At the end I had a tear in my eye. He was frank and laid everything out on the table. He looked at it from the black perspective AND the white perspective. It was very refreshing to see someone stand up and say in a clear, calm, straight forward voice what the issues are in the country in regards to race. It was refreshing to see a PRESIDENTIAL candidate stand up and say it. It's never been done before. His frankness on Rezko and Wright and the racial situation in America is what makes me believe he is the right person to be the next president of the United States. I want a president who is going to speak frankly and truthfully about issues. not try and use political talk. I want a president who isnt afraid to say "yes, our economy sucks right now. It wont be easy. you need to make sacrifices." I respect that in a man. Barack, you, sir, have my respect and support.

So, Obama's speech... does it turn things around for him and get him some good press? Obviously Faux News wont drop it, but i think the media at large will drop this Wright thing and move momentum back to Obama again.
-
QUOTE(lostfan @ Mar 18, 2008 -> 11:11 AM) The thing is it's completely and totally blunt and honest. And he talks about both perspectives and how it gets perpetuated and nothing ever changes. He's absolutely right. "Straight Talk Express" get off the road, you just got owned.
-
Some people on MSNBC are declaring this one of the most IMPORTANT and SUBSTANTIAL speeches on race int he last 40+ years... and they might be right.
-
I admit, I had a tear in my eye.
-
he's getting applause from the press!

QUOTE(NorthSideSox72 @ Mar 17, 2008 -> 05:09 PM) CNN and MSNBC both reporting that the FL Democratic Party is saying there WILL BE NO re-do of a primary there. No details yet. With that off the table, I'd guess the DNC continues to stall FL, and then agrees to seat them 50-50 or something. I think it'll be 50-50 or make each delegate count as half. The latter is more "democratic" since it represents how the voters voted.. they just count as half.

QUOTE(Steve9347 @ Mar 17, 2008 -> 04:08 PM) I really hope they don't actually pay their Website and graphic design folks over there at 670. What a fugly site. most radio websites are. The top 10 in major markets are good, but most of the rest are pretty lame. It's 2 part... 1) Don't have the "money" to afford a dedicated webdesigner. One station I interned at hired someone to make the "template" then their marketing and promotion person was incharge of making updates. 2) They PACK their website with ads. 670TheScore.com has so many ads and promotions that it is hard to find content. -
QUOTE(kapkomet @ Mar 17, 2008 -> 02:59 PM) D'oh. Yes. F'in accounting crap on the brain. i hear ya. I believe 501c3s are not allowed to be political, but i am not sure. Edit: i stand corrected.
