  1. QUOTE (HickoryHuskers @ Nov 16, 2011 -> 07:17 AM) I think KW is waiting until he knows whether or not he gets Buehrle back before deciding on trades for Danks and/or Floyd. I'm thinking that, too. Let's just hope the Sox don't end up without Buehrle and Danks.
  2. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Nov 15, 2011 -> 11:22 AM) He won't get that kind of money. He won't even get the 4/56 he got in the last contract, I'm willing to bet. And I'm also willing to be he'd come back to the Sox for a little less than other offers he might have. Not a LOT less, but a little. I'd be surprised if he doesn't get at least offered 4/$60. I say offered because he may not take a deal like that if it's not with a team he wants to play for. That being said, I believe he signs somehwere for around $14-$15 million a year for at least three years. I don't see the Sox offering that much, however.

Less than 2 months until Alcatraz debuts. I'm looking forward to this show.
  4. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Nov 15, 2011 -> 06:55 AM) He generally doesn't owe it to the Sox to give a hometown discount, but the Sox don't need to match any offers either. If he is truly comfortable playing in Chicago, with the White Sox, and he doesn't want to leave, then he won't. And it will almost certainly come at some sort of hometown discount, because I think there will likely be richer offers on the table elsewhere. Like I said elsewhere, I don't believe it when his agent says that he will not give a hometown discount. I think that's all a drive for more money. I think, at the end of the day, if he's back in Chicago, it will be at some sort of "discount." And if not, then good for him. (I still won't care) Agree 100%. And, I don't think the Sox will be able to match the highest offer he'll get. If he truly is being coveted by upwards of 10 teams (realistically it's 5 or so serious teams), he's going to field offers in the neighborhood of 4 years at $15 to $16 million per. The most I see the Sox offering is 3 years at $12 million per.

Caught up with American Horror Story last night. This show is so bizarre, and I'm really enjoying it. It's actually pretty effective at being scary.

QUOTE (bigruss22 @ Nov 14, 2011 -> 12:06 PM) Can they please write Andrea out of the script, there is at least one moment in every episode that I actually yell how much of a b**** she is to the television. Please kill her off already. Her act of the grieving sister grew old pretty quick. Should have let her stay at the CDC.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Nov 14, 2011 -> 10:36 AM) I just read that Seth McFarland was supposed to be on one of the Boston flights on 9/11 but missed his plane because of a hangover. How did I never hear that before? I've seen it many times in interviews and articles about 9/11.

QUOTE (GoSox05 @ Nov 14, 2011 -> 09:35 AM) I really hope they are gonna have all kinda crazy stuff happen the second half of the season. Cause this is just boring at this point. I'm still really liking it. However, I think we were spoiled by the 6 episode first season. So much was packed into those episodes, and now it's slower paced and a lot more character building. I am hoping for more stuff to begin happening, but I'm nowhere near giving up on it.
  9. QUOTE (Tex @ Nov 13, 2011 -> 06:05 AM) Just wondering, how did Mark become indebted to the organization that he should give a hometown discount? Isn't that like the employee buying the owner a gold watch? I think the consensus is that Mark should not be expected to give a hometown discount. Like I've said, if he can make the money elsewhere, good for him. What makes me scratch my head is hearing that he's going after the money (which may or may not be true). Everything Mark has said in the past leads me to believe that he will make a decision based on what is best for his family, which seems to be staying near the midwest. I personally think Mark will re-sign with the Sox, but he could end up with the Marlins (because of Ozzie). I'd be very surprised if he signs with the likes of the Yankees or Bo Sox. Back to the issue of Mark giving a hometown discount, I think it would actually be the opposite where the Sox should be more willing to pay him a bit more than they normally would. I'm not saying they should match or beat a 4/$60 million offer (for example), but maybe offer 3/$36 vs. 2/$22.
  10. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Nov 11, 2011 -> 09:00 AM) What insane GM is going to make that deal? Moving who for young pitching? Quentin or Viciedo? I imagine Viciedo could get more in return, but I wouldn't want to see that.
  11. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Nov 11, 2011 -> 07:49 AM) Congrats on another season in AAA, Dayan. Or at least 1/3 of a season, until Carlos gets hurt. If Carlos isn't traded, it'll be De Aza or Viciedo as the odd man out. It's too bad Rios is plugging up an outfield spot. Who knows, though? Rios could have a good year. (green?) With Carlos, I predict an outfield of De Aza, Rios, and Quentin. Without him, it's easy. De Aza, Rios, Viciedo.
  12. QUOTE (justBLAZE @ Nov 11, 2011 -> 12:21 AM) Jon Heyman sounds like the #chisox are expecting to hold onto carlos quentin, talented yet inconsistent player who hit .254 Seems a little early to make this type of prediction. I'm sure there are teams out there that would like to have Carlos. Of course if there's not a worthwhile package offered for him then the Sox will most likely hold onto him. However, I see him being traded.
  13. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Nov 10, 2011 -> 10:25 PM) CSN just threw the figure of 4 years $60 million out there. Not surprising. If he truly is being wooed by 5-10 teams and some team really wants him and is willing to pay... The four years seems a little high, but you never know. I don't see the Sox coming close to an offer like that. I imagine the highest the Sox might go is 3/$36 million, and that might be pushing it.

Holy s***, Homeland is an incredible show.
  15. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Nov 10, 2011 -> 09:13 AM) Noting the source... cst_Cowley cst_Cowley According to a Sox source, Buehrle has told the team no hometown discount coming this time around. There are about 10 teams interested. And that's fine. If Mark gets paid a lot by another team, good for him. To me, what we're hearing about all the interest and Mark's apparent interest in the money is in contrast to what he has said in the past. He's talked about retirement more than making money...not that I believed for a minute he would retire after this season. And, yes, consider the source. Most other things I've seen and heard have 5 teams interested. I'm sure there are ten teams that would like to have Buehrle, but I imagine 5 or fewer teams could pay him what he should get.
  16. QUOTE (kjshoe04 @ Nov 9, 2011 -> 01:16 AM) I am finding this incredibly difficult. Only have 8 so far and half of them are from books. I had the same problem. My list was pretty short until I started thinking about books. There are some evil villains in books out there. It will be interesting to see how many villains strictly from books make the countdown.

I've been catching up on The League. I the Ol' Smoke Crotch episode had me rolling. Probably the best episode of the season.
  18. And what could they get in return? He hasn't looked that good at the plate. Maybe he could be packaged with someone else?
  19. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Nov 8, 2011 -> 10:13 AM) ChiTribRogers Phil Rogers Reports say Mark Buehrle starts FA process w/trip to Miami. He's in demand, and all but gone from #whitesox. If he's in high demand, I don't see the Sox being able to match some of the offers he will get. I'm thinking he re-signs with the Sox only with a discount, and a pretty decent one at that. I could see him getting a 3 or 4 year deal worth $15 million per.
  20. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Nov 8, 2011 -> 08:36 AM) I have no doubt the Sox would match or beat that. If another team wants Mark, they are going to have to offer either 4/5 years or go over $15 or $16 million per year. I agree. I don't see the Sox offering more than 3 years, though. If Mark can get 4 years at $16 million per, good for him. I just really don't want to see him go to Florida, even though it doesn't really matter if he goes to an NL team.
  21. If he goes to another team for a bunch of money that's one thing. But if he signs with another team for something like 2/$24 million you'd have to wonder WTF.
  22. I'd be surprised if more than 5 or 6 of mine end up on the countdown. I put in parentheses where the villain was from for over half of mine.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Nov 2, 2011 -> 08:13 AM) Terra Nova RIP. It is being deleted from the DVR. So freaking cliche. I officially gave up on the show. It has been deleted from the DVR. I tried, I really did, but it's really not a good show. While I was watching the pilot, I believe, my 9-year old son said, "Why does that dinosaur look so fake?" For a show that has been built up to have great special effects, it's a major disappointment. Plus the story lines suck, and the acting is just this side of atrocious. With shows like House, Fringe, Grimm, Once Upon a Time, American Horror Story, The Walking Dead, and Person of Interest, I have enough to watch without relying on crap like Terra Nova.
  24. I went with defunct sports teams. If you include the WHL, ABA, etc., there are some pretty silly names for teams.
  25. QUOTE (Tex @ Nov 2, 2011 -> 05:06 AM) For all four to perform at what level? All-Star? Career averages? Career average for Dunn and Rios. Peavy...he's a tough one. I don't see him getting back to what he used to be, but I'd like to see 170+ innings and an ERA around 4.00. Beckham just needs to be torn down and rebuilt. Last year was dismal. He looked terrible at the plate. He's got to be a special project for Manto.
