2011-12 White Sox off season catch all thread
QUOTE (greg775 @ Oct 18, 2011 -> 10:34 PM) This is where we disagree. Ozzie "quit" cause he couldn't get the extension. You read that last Cowley story where he addressed the quitting issue with that colorful obscene quote. Cmon. We are all smart people here (resist the temptation to rip me here). We know KW won the battle. Ozzie "quit?" Cmon. Please stop saying that. If the Marlins' offer hadn't been looming, he'd have been replaced or bought out or whatever you want to call it. Or KW would have quit. Reasonable adult fans on here know it was Oz or Ken and Ken won. As an Oz backer I admit that. KW won. He faceplanted Ozzie. He cold cocked him harder than Mayweather floored poor Victor. Quitting is quitting. He threw a temper tantrum because he wanted an extension (when he was doing his job poorly), and the Sox said no. Then he asked to be released from his contract. And as it has been talked about before, KW offered to step down because he knew he hadn't done a good job this season. I'm not necessarily a KW apologist, but if I was an employer and I had two employees that were not performing well and constantly bickering and one guy offers to step down while the other cries and screams about more money (while using an outside source to spread the word), who do you think I'd keep?

2011-12 White Sox off season catch all thread
QUOTE (greg775 @ Oct 18, 2011 -> 01:13 PM) I've given KW his props for that. But if the Sox are discarding Ozzie and fans are turning on him, well I think the blame should be shared and KW should be outta here. And this stuff with Coop is troubling too. Ozzie quit. He's the Marlins' problem now. KW is not going anywhere right now. He probably has a fairly short leash, though. And the only thing that is troubling about the stuff with Coop is that fact that Ozzie is already crying and pointing fingers. Ozzie Guillen does not exist with the White Sox anymore. It's time to stop talking about him.

Rumor: Thome as hitting coach
I think whether you don't want him or wouldn't mind him as the hitting coach, there's nothing that says whether he'll be any good at it or not. Just because Thome has a certain hitting style doesn't mean that he'd coach others to hit that way. You could weight the pros and cons and have long discussions about it, but in reality there's zero information on how he'd coach. Personally, I wouldn't mind it. But that's based on the fact that I think he'd be respected and he's been one of the better hitters in recent history.

2011 TV Thread
QUOTE (JoeCoolMan24 @ Oct 13, 2011 -> 02:55 PM) I don't even understand what's going on at this point. Did you seriously think that I saw the entire epic scene of Gus getting his face blown off, commented on it, and then forgot it entirely? You aren't making any sense right now. Obviously Hector killed Gus, my point was that Gus was on his way to kill Hector, that was the reason he went to the old folks home, that's the reason he had a syringe in his hand. Obviously they both died in the explosion that Hector triggered, but the point still remains that Gus was going to kill Hector. But the only reason Gus was going to kill Hector was because it was set up by Walt. He arranged to have Hector go to the FBI (and say nothing), making it look like Hector had talked. Gus had no chance to kill Hector before his face was blown off. If you really want to argue semantics, Walt killed Gus...and Hector too for that matter. But Hector triggered the bomb therefore killing Gus.

Sox Underdogs Again, Just What They Needed
QUOTE (The Ginger Kid @ Oct 13, 2011 -> 08:06 AM) supposedly Detroit is going to be in on the CJ Wilson sweepstakes. Verlander, Scherzer, Porcello, Fister, Wilson. That's the kind of thing the Sox need to be concerned about. As far as Cubs vs Sox, are there really enough fans out there that will follow the team that is doing better than the other? I believe there are Cubs fans and Sox fans and few that ride the fence. Nationally, the Sox are always second class to the Cubs (with 2005 maybe being the exception). Theo going to the Cubs creates more big new for two nationally loved (or loathed) teams. The White Sox hiring Theo would also have been big news, but not as big as it'll be for the Red Sox to Cubs move for the guy.

Sox Underdogs Again, Just What They Needed
It really shouldn't matter what's going on with the Cubs except for 6 games a year. KW and the Sox need to be more concerned about what teams like Detroit, Cleveland, and Minnesota are doing.

Robin Ventura Named White Sox Manager
QUOTE (greg775 @ Oct 11, 2011 -> 10:33 PM) I wasn't the one who made a post concerned about one of his boring answers today. I was responding to it. I prefer funny showmen like Ozzie, but Ventura deserves our support even if he is very very very bland. Come on, enough with this. But you're right that Ventura deserves our support. And like I said before: Bland winning manager > Funny losing manager

2011 TV Thread
I was out of town until yesterday, so I just got around to watching Breaking Bad. First, I thought Gus walking out of the room with half a face and fixing his tie was awesome. Second, the thought that Gus had poisoned Brock didn't cross my mind until the end when I was sure that he had. He had to convince Jesse that Gus needed to be killed, and he did so by poisoning the kid. It will be interesting to see what direction they take the show next season.

Robin Ventura Named White Sox Manager
Wow. A lot of overreaction here, in my opinion. I think the guy knows baseball, and it seems like he has the respect of the players. We'll have to wait and see.

Robin Ventura Named White Sox Manager
Is the Yankees' Tony Pena the former catcher from the Pirates?

Robin Ventura Named White Sox Manager
QUOTE (Soxbadger @ Oct 6, 2011 -> 05:55 PM) Chisox, I agree that a managers attitude can negatively impact a team. I just dont believe Ventura has that type of attitude. Hes far more even keeled than Ozzie. Sam Kinnison was more even keeled than Ozzie.

Robin Ventura Named White Sox Manager
I wonder if his bench coach wish is already a bench coach somewhere else?

Robin Ventura Named White Sox Manager
This move surprised the hell out of me. But, I don't hate it. I'm a relatively new Sox fan (1999), so I don't know a lot about Ventura. If he surrounds himself with the right people, this could be a good thing.

I have Officially Conceded the Season is Over
QUOTE (greg775 @ Oct 6, 2011 -> 01:55 PM) Bingo. You have just hit on the angle of every reporter/broadcaster surrounding Adam Dunn this offseason and next spring training. We are gonna hear "a lot" about the appendectomy ruining everything for Dunn. He'll report 10 pounds lighter as well. Now whether that weight total will be correct or not, who knows? But it'll be 10-15 pounds lighter, a new committed HEALTHY Adam Dunn ... in the media and Sox promotions at least. I can't speak for Adam Dunn, but I would imagine he's going to work his ass off this winter. He probably will report lighter and in better shape. There's no doubt the media will be talking about his commitment. But I believe his commitment will be true. Let's just hope it makes him a better hitter...again.

Konerko talks with AZ happened in August
QUOTE (fathom @ Oct 6, 2011 -> 02:10 PM) Are you kidding? That would have been a brilliant trade if he could have gotten Goldschmidt to go along with some of the great pitching the Diamondbacks have in their minor league system. Konerko understands the business, and if he were traded for an awesome package he'd understand. Captain or no captain, if you can get some good, young talent, you do it.

Is Carlos Quentin going to be on this team in 2012?
QUOTE (greg775 @ Oct 6, 2011 -> 01:59 PM) Seriously, who would want Rios? Average ballplayer at best at any cost. And not worth the risk in terms of his loafing. I think there's the chance he'll put up average numbers for the Sox next year which would be a good thing. You never know. Some team may want a potentially good center fielder that needs a kick in the ass. Regardless, though, the Sox wouldn't get much in return. But in Scenario's scenario, it's about freeing up cash. That's a good move.

Konerko talks with AZ happened in August
QUOTE (elrockinMT @ Oct 6, 2011 -> 02:01 PM) The news still ticks me off that KW would think about selling off our team CPT Remember that just about anybody can be and usually is put on waivers. Just because someone is claimed doesn't mean he'll get traded (obviously). What if AZ had claimed Konerko and offered a package that couldn't be turned down?

Is Carlos Quentin going to be on this team in 2012?
QUOTE (HickoryHuskers @ Oct 6, 2011 -> 07:03 AM) I realize that I am in the extreme minority, but I believe that Carlos Quentin will be on the Sox 2012 Opening Day Roster. I don't believe that KW can sell, or even wants to sell, to the fan base that they can't afford to pay their second-best hitter $7-8M in 2012 because Jake Peavy, Adam Dunn, and Alex Rios are eating up $50M or whatever. KW will find a way to keep him. I believe because the team has to pay so much money to Dunn, Peavy, and Rios that trading Quentin (and hopefully getting something decent in return) makes sense. I hope that if he is traded he's not traded for nothing. If KW can't get something of value in return he should be kept.

White Sox Manager Search Thread
QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Oct 6, 2011 -> 07:06 AM) He's one of the top managerial prospects in the game if not #1. Given the direction of the team, hiring a first-time manager probably makes the most sense. What is your problem with Martinez? Does he not make enough funnies for you? Well, it depends on how many smiles he receives when walking into a restaurant.

White Sox Manager Search Thread
QUOTE (greg775 @ Oct 6, 2011 -> 01:35 AM) So you guys get your wish. I won't bury him. I hope he succeeds. Stop with the generalization. We already got our wish when Ozzie quit. As far as a new manager, it seems like most posters like the idea of Martinez or Alomar or Francona. The article definitely makes it sound like Martinez will be the guy, and you're not going to hear many complaints if that happens. But I don't think you'd hear too many complaints if it ended up being Alomar either.

2011 TV Thread
QUOTE (Brian @ Oct 5, 2011 -> 03:14 PM) All the reviews for American Horror Story have been totally negative. I've read a few reviews that say people will either love it or hate it. I'm going to give it a shot, but I'm willing to bet more people will hate than love. FX isn't afraid of cancelling good shows with low ratings (Terriers, Over There).

Is Carlos Quentin going to be on this team in 2012?
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Oct 5, 2011 -> 03:43 PM) ^this is what I want also. I just still struggle to believe we'll get for Quentin what we think Quentin should be worth. He's an interesting trade piece. On one hand, he's shown flashes of being an offensive monster. But, the other (bigger) hand is him being injury-prone and a sub-par defender. I personally don't expect much back.

Is Carlos Quentin going to be on this team in 2012?
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Oct 5, 2011 -> 03:42 PM) If you make a list of the guys to keep out of that group, Carlos would be 3rd. I agree. Buehrle would be my first choice. I would think they should get something decent back for Danks.
-
Is Carlos Quentin going to be on this team in 2012?
QUOTE (sunofgold @ Oct 5, 2011 -> 03:32 PM) Let me throw this out there. What if we don't resign Buehrle and we trade Danks. Would that be enough of a salary dump to keep Quentin? I personally don't think that Quentin has reached his peak yet. Eh, I'd be more willing to trade Quentin and Danks and re-sign Buehrle.

I have Officially Conceded the Season is Over
QUOTE (Middle Buffalo @ Oct 5, 2011 -> 02:34 PM) I still feel like Dunn will come out of this slump and lead us to the post-season. I think he just finished his last swing at a slow curve ball. *crickets* *off in the distance, a dog barks*
