  1. OK i JUST realized how SICK that makes our rotation (pending Floyd remembering he's a pitcher) Peavy Buehrle Danks Floyd Colon I'm sure this has been talked about in the past 30 pages, but DAMN, that's pretty sick.
  2. QUOTE (fathom @ May 21, 2009 -> 10:06 AM) Seriously, the Padres could be interested in Lillibridge as a final piece of the package (to go along with a big time PTBNL). how epic would THAT be?
  3. QUOTE (Sockin @ May 21, 2009 -> 10:03 AM) ESPN reporting Peavy called Linebrink to ask him what it's like in Chicago, Peavy said he received strong feedback.
  4. just watched some in-game footage of Starcraft 2... so flippin' excited. I got to stop being a geek all through high school and college because it's been that bloody long since the first Starcraft came out. But now I can't wait to bring it all back. I am a closet gamer.

QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ May 19, 2009 -> 04:01 PM) It doesn't matter, they have to live with it. They clearly established Walt as a huge force in season 1, anything else then Walt rejoining the cast as a regular would be a gigantic failing on the part of the writers. i think walt's done. the puberty thing is too much of a problem. it just wouldn't make sense. they'll just change their approach, even if the initial plan WAS to have walt be a big deal.
  6. QUOTE (kapkomet @ May 19, 2009 -> 10:20 AM) I wasn't. I just wanted one fact clear and that was it wasn't unconstitutional. Ignorant? Maybe. fair enough. i'm not 100% convinced on the subject, but I'll concede it in that we both agree it's ignorant.
  7. QUOTE (Texsox @ May 18, 2009 -> 08:59 PM) It's a shame that people of faith receive so little respect here. Their ideas are dismissed on a regular basis. They are told they should not have opinions on much of anything from alcohol laws, to what is shown on TV, to basically anything that has to do with public policy. With that, I shall leave. Sorry of I have offended anyone with my "off the rocker" faith.
  8. QUOTE (Texsox @ May 18, 2009 -> 07:54 AM) Different posters have made different points with different points of view, for me to stay in one place I will have to ignore some posts. It's a simple point, he's quoting from literature. Not a big deal. And the initial post mentioned that we have to stop because that is why some people hate us. So I've pointed out several ways that that does not make a difference in some people hating us. Some people will allow him to quote from some works of literature, but not others. That would require a government sanctioned list of approved books that can be quoted from. Telling someone of faith to check their beliefs at the door, would be the same as telling the atheists to check their beliefs at the door. but he's not using it as LITERATURE, but as a sacred religious text as a basis for military action!
  9. QUOTE (Texsox @ May 18, 2009 -> 07:22 AM) I would suggest when people are dying, that is a good place and time for religion. Perhaps it would have been better if he just photocopied some of our currency instead. In God We Trust. Funny when we send US dollars to these countries, with In God We Trust emblazon across the face, they do not find that as a reason to hate us. My only wish is Rumsfeld invoked other religions as well in his memos. The Eastern religions especially have some great stuff on war and peace. Those that believe the country has now endorsed a religion, which one? Catholic, Lutheran, LDS, ??? When will we start shutting down the other Churches? GMAB. Like many of our rights, we are protected from the government stopping citizens from practicing their freely choosed religion. We did not write the Constitution to stop people from praying, we wrote that into the Constitution to ensure that we can continue to pray in the way that we want to. In all facets of life. BUT HE DIDN'T! And THEREIN lies the problem.
  10. QUOTE (Texsox @ May 17, 2009 -> 10:12 PM) Are they intolerable or tolerable to Rumsfeld quoting certain forms of literature? It's a simple question, with a simple answer. They are intolerable of him quoting religious works. They will allow him to quote other material, or even make other statements of his own, as long as they are not reflecting his religious views. And the reasoning behind it is because the Iraqis will hate us. The Iraqis would prefer if we were fighting an atheistic war against them, and not a holy war. Perhaps then they will stop fighting a jihad, or holy war, and instead they too will fight an atheistic war against us. Then, things will be so much better. We will fight this war as friends. It's late, I'm done. and PLUS, this is not Rumsfeld passing these off as "his views", it's not "him quoting religious works" - he's attaching them to top secret war-related documents, which insinuates that they're the view of the ADMINISTRATION as a whole, not just his own personal beliefs. Therein lies a significant part of the problem.

It's late, I'm done. man this is so weird to me. like i said before, i'm not used to you being illogical - but what lost was saying is there's a time and place, and you don't agree with that? people should be able to say whatever the frick they want whenever they want to say it? without condemnation? is that what you're suggesting?
  12. QUOTE (Chet Lemon @ May 17, 2009 -> 03:54 PM) Instead of retrieving quotes from previous generations, the Secretary of Defense should have made sure there were enough soldiers, ample body armor, post-war strategies, and a legitimate connection between Iraq and the 9/11 hijackers.
  13. QUOTE (Texsox @ May 17, 2009 -> 10:24 AM) Whether you believe in a deity nor not, the advice, counsel, and wisdom contained in religious texts, from all religions, is valuable. To ignore that, does more harm than allowing it. Well then I'd hope we include quotes from those other religions you're speaking of as well. Oh wait, we didn't - only Christian ones. When talking about affairs of the state then YES! Of COURSE you could quote Plato but not Jesus - separation of Church and State. I hate to use that phrase cuz it's bandied about so much, but it pertains here. You're not going to have people getting offended by Plato quotes. And I don't think you could base a war off Plato quotes. Tex you confuse me sometimes. Usually you're so level headed, but what are you talking about? The individual soldiers should be able to do whatever they want - but to include Christian quotes on each war-related memo gives the idea that this is a religiously-based war which is wholy NOT ok in America. These aren't just quotes used in a speech, they're repeated Christian ideals attached to the official documents having to do with a flippin' WAR. Why do you find that ok?
  14. QUOTE (Soxfest @ May 17, 2009 -> 12:10 PM) AR not producing! what the hell man? (those are my initials. hah)
  15. QUOTE (kyyle23 @ May 17, 2009 -> 12:06 PM) The big butts song, yes, the square butts song, no Can you remember the outrage that accompanied the song when it came out? and now if you don't hear it at a middle school dance it's borderline criminal.
  16. QUOTE (kyyle23 @ May 17, 2009 -> 09:17 AM) i like square butts and I cannot lie can you believe that song is 17 years old?
  17. QUOTE (lostfan @ May 16, 2009 -> 07:49 PM) 100 billion is being very conservative actually, there could be as many as 400 billion stars in the galaxy, we don't really know. And as far as the other galaxies out there keep in mind the word "observable," we can't even see most of them from Earth because they're outside of the visible light spectrum because of their position/speed/whatever, or their light is so far away that it's too weak/hasn't even reached yet. But yeah, bottom line, the universe is almost incomprehensibly big. you can take out "almost" i can't even comprehend 100 billion, much less 400, or those outside of our range of sight.
  18. QUOTE (fathom @ May 16, 2009 -> 01:25 PM) Cito Gaston really is a hell of a manager. and we turned him down.
  19. f*** you AJ. throw your bat after seeing one pitch and uppercutting at it. what the f*** do you THINK is going to happen?
  20. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ May 15, 2009 -> 04:50 PM) I don't think we even need a hitting coach. We need a team psychologist more, because improving the thinking of Floyd and Contreras would help more than anything a hitting coach could do. I think you could take any of the moderators here and put them with the 2006 White Sox team and there wouldn't have been any difference in terms of offensive output...just like you could take a mod and make them coach of the Fab Five Michigan or even the UNLV teams earlier and there wouldn't be anything more than a negligible difference in the final results. this is close to one of the most ridiculous posts i've ever read.

QUOTE (BearSox @ May 14, 2009 -> 10:52 PM) I'm pretty sure Jacob touched all of Kate, Jack, Sawyer, Sayid, Hugo, and Jin. So, I was thinking everything is restored to normal and we go back to episode 1, and that is now the present, BUT, I think all those touched by Jacob remember everything that has happened. Perhaps Jacob planned for them to remember everything so they can plan what to do and change what will happen to keep him alive. but how could they "remember"?? the 1977 real world (non-island) versions of them are little kids, how would they suddenly have memory of the island before they get there?? i think those flashbacks were just to signify Jacobs hand in all of their lives.

    LOST!!!!

QUOTE (BearSox @ May 14, 2009 -> 08:03 PM) Someone brought up a good point about how Jack's dad told Locke that he needed to die to bring everyone back. I was thinking, could that be Esau who was the one pretending to be Jack's dad. However, when Fake Locke, Sun, Ben, and Frank first went back to the main island, wasn't it Jack's dad in the house? So, there has to be a separate entity that is working with Esau, IMO. And finally, most people know about Joseph and technicolor dream coat, and so on. However, Jacob had one more son after Joseph. Guess what that sons name was... Ben! Also, before Ben was born, Jacob was to change his name to Isreal, and during labor, Jacob's wife Rachel had died. Didn't Ben's mother die during labor? Ben and his father never had a good relationship, and it was always blamed on the fact that his wife had died in labor. Could it turn out all together that Jacob was actually the father of Ben and the real reason Ben's dad hated him was because he knew he wasn't his? This could explain why Jacob never showed himself to Ben in the first place. also... read page 81 of this thread - a lot of that was already discussed.

QUOTE (BearSox @ May 14, 2009 -> 07:33 PM) In a discussion I had today with some other Lost fans, one brought up a very good point. Remember in season 2 when they were showing Desmond's story, when he is first found on the island, the guy who is with him always wore a radiation suit outside. If you recall, he would go out everyday with the suit on. Eventually it turned out there was a rip in it, and it was safe to go outside, but could the reason they had the suit in the first place be because of the hydrogen bomb? So, was Miles right, and was setting of the A-Bomb actually the event that caused everything? Very interesting. Longest 8 months of my life coming up. right - the bomb IS the incident. Faraday was trying to MAKE the incident happen, not stop it. He knew it had to happen. Why? If the bomb didn't go off, the electromagnetic energy would've gotten out of control and screwed up the planet's alignment, axis, etc, wreaking havoc on everything. The bomb had to go off to negate that energy, in order to allow the swan to be built on top of it. Without the bomb, the Swan never could've been built because the energy in the area wouldn't allow for anything to be built on top. Essentially, after the explosion, they all die and everything goes back to Episode 1 Season 1. So then what? They're stuck in a time loop with everything replaying over and over again. Next season we will see the return of constants, and the goal will be to find the loophole, break the cycle, since none of the survivors will have any memory of the things that happen once they die and things start over again. That's my guess.
