  1. QUOTE (greg775 @ Aug 1, 2012 -> 10:49 PM) Here's one other thing wrong with society. What Jake wrote about the Bible is offensive to me. And you know what? Nobody cares. Why??? Because it is OK, it is popular to attack believers. It is acceptable to attack those who believe in God and that sucks. You can attack him in the same fashion, thats called freedom of speech. Are you really trying to sell that Christians are being oppressed?
  2. QUOTE (greg775 @ Aug 1, 2012 -> 10:42 PM) Chicago mayor or some govtment official is blocking the opening of a Chik Fil A in the Windy City and said that type of business is not welcome. NYC won't go there. Their mayor correctly said a man's opinion has nothing to do with his right to open a business. Right? I do not believe CFA has submitted an application to the Chicago Zoning Board so its pretty impossible to say what Chicago would do. In fact, they havent even submitted an application to the Alderman, here is the Alderman's actual quote: Sounds like if CFA can prove they arent discriminating they wont have any issues. Or do you think a business should be allowed to discriminate?
  3. QUOTE (greg775 @ Aug 1, 2012 -> 10:38 PM) But this is the man's OPINION. Kudos to mayor bloomberg in New York. He GETS IT. http://blogs.wsj.com/metropolis/2012/07/27...-new-york-city/ What mayor has promoted a govt ban on Chik Fil-A? Not really getting the comparison. Emmanuel said that they werent Chicago values, that does not equate to ban. Emmanuel also gets to have his opinion.
  4. Who is exactly against Christianity? Im pretty sure that Jesus said something like One should treat others as one would like others to treat oneself. If Cathy thinks he is deserving of marriage, then everyone is, at least according to the Christian God.
  5. Where have I said that CFA isnt well within their rights to say what they want? Im merely well within my rights not to buy their merchandise. To use an easy example: McDonalds could say they are for slavery and give money to pro-slavery groups. They are well within their rights to do that, no one can stop them from saying or believing whatever they want. But I dont have to keep going to McDonalds, I can correctly point out that McDonalds has an antiquated view that should be changed, and I can try and effectuate that change by hitting them where it hurts, public image and pocket. To you what he said isnt bad, to someone else its terrible. Its called opinion, we all unfortunately get one.
  6. QUOTE (Soxbadger @ Oct 6, 2011 -> 04:13 PM) Steve, NBA and MLB are apples and oranges. Im pretty sure that Robin can read stat sheets and make better decisions than Ozzie. Im pretty sure that in a year or 2 people are going to wonder why they ever questioned Robin. The guy is legit, he just never wanted to be a coach before, otherwise hed have a ton of useless experience. This was better though. I had to fight a lot of people in this thread. I really believed in Ventura and even I have to admit I did not expect this much of a turnaround. In my head I felt that Ozzie was costing the Sox about 5-10 games a season, so I figured if Ventura was just neutral the Sox would do a lot better.
  7. QUOTE (Soxbadger @ Oct 6, 2011 -> 04:06 PM) Man I really cant believe that people are negative on this move. Most people have assumed that Robin would be a hot coaching option as soon as he decided that he wanted to coach. The fact that the Sox were actually able to convince him to coach is pretty impressive. Im not sure what experience has to do with coaching baseball. This isnt football where you call plays, its baseball and Im pretty sure that I could program a computer to make better decisions than Ozzie. "IF A stats against LHP > B stats against LHP replace B with A." Robin is exactly the opposite of Ozzie, which is exactly what this team needs. This is one of the few hires that Id actually be interested in. It really isnt difficult to be a baseball manager, and its almost impossible to be worse than Ozzie "I make the line ups" Guillen. I could go back and read this thread all day
  8. QUOTE (Alpha Dog @ Aug 1, 2012 -> 07:11 PM) And the violence from the tolerant left continues. West Virginia CFA gets bomb threats. How many more to come..... http://www.journal-news.net/page/content.d...g.html?nav=5006 How do you know who called in the threat? I read the article and it didnt identify any suspects. For all we know an anti-gay rights activist called in the threat to try and make it appear like a pro-gay activist did it...
  9. ha Well Wiener Circle is notorious in Chicago, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Wieners_Circle, basically the people yell and get in your face about service etc. They also have a "chocolate shake" where the women show their breasts. Late at night its fine, but this was during the middle of the day when I was the only customer. Yell at me, do whatever you want, but keeping my money is crossing the line.
  10. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Aug 1, 2012 -> 03:37 PM) I absolutely vote with my dollars, both places I really admire, and places that I don't respect. Same. Im a pretty loyal buyer too, so once I like something I stick with it. You have to be like Wiener Circle to lose my business. (I used to go there all the time, but the last time I went they refused to give me change and called it their tip.)
  11. You are correct, the CEO is entitled to say and believe whatever he wants. And we as consumers are entitled to buy whatever we want. Its unfortunate for the chain owner, but that is the price of a franchise. You reap both the good and the bad. Its not about treating his employees (CFA is notorious for vetting employees so its unlikely they even hire gay people), its about belief. If I found out that a company had an antisemitic owner, I wouldnt buy the product if I thought my money would go to supporting those causes. I just dont want my money going to support that. Im sure there are companies who have owners who have terrible beliefs, they just are smart enough to keep them to themselves.
  12. As a comment to JPN's article someone had the audacity to compare CFA to the Jews in the holocaust. If it was a message board post I would have gone off so badly that I probably would have been banned.
  13. QUOTE (iamshack @ Aug 1, 2012 -> 09:01 AM) Have any of you guys made any donations to the Obama campaign? I made a very small donation a few weeks ago and so now I am on his donor list or whatever. The emails I get every day are quite entertaining. I get those emails because I went to the 2008 Grant Park thing. So far they never have been able to get me to donate.
  14. I can read. You just seem to not be willing to accept that the rules of this thread are to use spoilers. /shrugs Nothing more I can really say, I didnt make the rule, I just didnt want other people to be surprised by a spoiler.
  15. QUOTE (IlliniKrush @ Jul 31, 2012 -> 03:39 PM) I could care less about the rule - if I didn't want to see things, I'd sure as hell avoid the internet and a thread about the Olympics. You're complaining about human error. Im not complaining at all. I was merely advising Balta of the rule. Im sorry that so many of you seemingly dont want to follow a simple request of Southsider. If you dont like it, take it up with him. Its not my rule, if the rule wasnt in place, I wouldnt read the thread. I presume SS2k made the rule so that we could talk about the Olmypics while we are at work and not worry about spoilers. But youd have to ask him, I simply am saying what the rule of this thread is.
  16. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 27, 2012 -> 01:34 PM) From this point forward, if people are going to discuss Olympic events, please use spoiler tags if the event has NOT yet aired in the US. Thanks all! QUOTE (IlliniKrush @ Jul 31, 2012 -> 03:32 PM) Sure it's a courtesy, but if you are that concerned with watching it tonight to find out the results, you avoid ALL media and internet sites that you don't need for work, especially a thread about the Olympics. I normally would avoid it, but the rule of this thread is not to post spoilers without spoiler tag. This was specifically posted in this very thread. I figured Balta didnt see the original post which is why I pointed it out, so that others would realize the rule. If you dont like the rule, feel free to complain about that.
  17. QUOTE (ChiSox_Sonix @ Jul 31, 2012 -> 03:17 PM) I can't believe people are upset about this. The event happened. People shouldnt have to tip toe around results for 5 hours. If you don't want to know results, avoid things like ESPN, twitter, facebook this thread etc... I do, but when the rules of this thread were specifically to use spoilers until the event airs live, I would assume that everyone can follow a simple request. Its just like using spoilers for a TV show for the first 24 hours, its a courtesy to other readers. As I said, Im not going to ESPN, Im not going to Yahoo. If this thread was filled with spoilers, i wouldnt come here either. That being said, the US Olympic feed just sent out a spoiler, at minimum youd think theyd be on the same page with NBC.
  18. Wait 10 minutes or so for all trades to be reported?
  19. Ive had to avoid every news source all day (yahoo, espn, etc). Its getting pretty annoying.
  20. Mirotic is still in Europe, Ive never seen him play so I cant compare.
  21. If you want a stretch 4, I suggest Jon Leuer.
  22. I thought this thread was going to use spoiler tags until event is aired prime time. Frustrating.
  23. Well if I can have any one in the world, id take Kevin Durant or Lebron James. Reasonable ideas, Id want Jeremy Lamb from Houston, or another guy at SG with good length who could also score out of the SF position. A cheap option would be a guy like Xavier Henry. The Bulls need to be looking at guys who are 1-2 years out of college who havent put it together.
  24. QUOTE (RZZZA @ Jul 31, 2012 -> 01:56 PM) I'm not saying we're getting him, I'm saying I want him. Who do you want? Don't tell me you want James Harden. He's never played anything more than a role player's role, he's never been able to take games over by himself. He can't defend. Every 2 guard out there has drawbacks and Harden is no different in that regard. We need a proven 1b type of guy, otherwise we're right back where we started in square one. We get deep into the playoffs, face the Heat, then realize we need another legit star player to take over games for us when they sweat Derrick. What does that mean? It means another guy like Derrick, someone who can go iso and get a good shot when he needs to. Someone who can beat his man and get to the rim and do something good with it. Who do I want that is realistic, or who do I want in fantasy land? Because those are very different questions.
