  1. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Jun 22, 2012 -> 07:02 PM) WTF? He adds wins because he's installed the best defense in the league. WITH rose they won a s***load of games in the playoffs and the regular season. You are acting like he's the only coach who tries to win every game which is 100% false. You didn't even start to watch the NBA until the NCAA season was over. Really? Here is a post January 6, where I am commenting on the Miami Heat v Atlanta Hawks game I watched the night before. http://scores.espn.go.com/nba/recap?gameId=320105001 QUOTE (Soxbadger @ Jan 6, 2012 -> 01:08 PM) The difference between guys like Rose/Kobe and Wade/Lebron is astounding. I just cant imagine Rose/Kobe sitting on the bench in a 3 overtime game unless their leg needed to be amputated. What I found striking last night was that Wade/Lebron could have dressed and played, but they seemed more concerned about wearing college professor outfits and cheering on the sideline. At minimum youd expect them to dress and be ready just in case. You can disagree with me on Thibs, but to just flat out lie to try and prove your point is a little sad.
  2. Some mocks have Kidd-Gilchrist falling to 5. If that happens and the Bulls could somehow land the pick, it would be pretty amazing.
  3. You could easily write a law that you need to be licensed to grow marijuana. The problem would be that you would then still be paying people to enforce the law.
  4. Growing marijuana is significantly easier than brewing beer. You could just throw seeds in your backyard and likely get 1 plant, although who knows the quality. That being said, I still think most people would buy super high grade over taking the risk of growing their own.
  5. The war on drugs puts so much money in so many different pockets. The biggest risk of marijuana is that you can grow it at home, so if they legalize it they may not see a windfall. Although most people are way to lazy to put the time and effort into growing good weed.
  6. It doesnt matter, he better be 100% sure that Martin said those things and there isnt a way to prove he didnt. This whole case rests on Zimmerman's credibility, so really no reason to take this risk.
  7. http://espn.go.com/new-york/nba/story/_/id...hts-affects-cap Pretty big ruling. NBA is trying to say that when you are waived you lose Bird rights, arbitrator disagreed.
  8. QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Jun 22, 2012 -> 12:29 PM) http://roothlawgroup.com/library/florida-a...nds-for-appeal/ That was the one I found but its Florida (different jurisdiction) and it didnt answer the question of whether the state could appeal. In Civil cases usually the plaintiff and defendant agree on the jury instructions before they are given, thus not a lot of appealing.
  9. I tried to find it really quickly through google, but couldnt. Strangely not a lot of articles on appealing jury instruction.
  10. I dont do a lot of criminal work, but I do believe you can appeal the case based on an improper jury instruction.
  11. QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Jun 22, 2012 -> 11:45 AM) I'm sure there's some sort of "reasonable person" standard here, otherwise anyone could self-delude into believing it's not rape and they'd be a-OK. Im not sure people understand what a jury instruction is. A jury instruction is the judge telling the jury what they are supposed to consider etc. The reason I quoted the instruction is because (imo) its completely off base. The reason I brought up rape, is because if a similar instruction was given, people would go absolutely insane. Crimson, Right they are separate arguments. Argument 1: There was never oral/anal sex. Argument 2: There were some contact, but it was not abuse. Without the jury instruction, argument 2 would be almost an automatic conviction.
  12. QUOTE (WHarris1 @ Jun 22, 2012 -> 11:34 AM) I read a tweet last night saying he told the grand jury initially that he was not abused so if he were to testify otherwise it could lead to perjury charges Not only that but his credibility would come into question and could actually help the defense's argument, "The sensationalist media has even convinced Mr. Sandusky's son that he was also abused, eventhough he was not. Based on this, you have to wonder if all of the alleged victims arent suffering from the same incorrect memories."
  13. QUOTE (CrimsonWeltall @ Jun 22, 2012 -> 09:20 AM) Nah, no way to apply any innocent intention behind the things he's accused of. Yes there is. "We were play wrestling" that is an innocent intent. Just think about the instruction and compare it to a regular rape case. Imagine if the instruction was: "The critical issue is not that the victim feels the actions were unwanted ... the issue is not what the victim felt, the issue is what the defendant intended" That would basically mean that as long as the person who committed the rape "thought they werent committing rape" they couldnt be convicted.
  14. I meant more wins in the playoffs, when you dont get to play bad teams. I should have been more clear. Thibs wins games in the regular season because he leaves his starters in until the bitter end and basically takes very little risk with resting them. That doesnt really make him a great coach, it just means he is willing to risk player health for a few regular season wins.
  15. QUOTE (Jake @ Jun 22, 2012 -> 10:30 AM) Call me a nuthugger, but I am not sure if the Chicago Bulls make it into the championship conversation without Tom Thibodeau. He was a negative in this year's playoffs, though. He handled the shake up from the injuries worse than the players. Thibs is a good in season coach. But there is a downside to pushing your players to hard during the regular season. Also I think the Bulls roster is why the Bulls are in the championship conversation. Rose won MVP last year, it wasnt because Thibs drew up amazing plays, it was because Rose is a dynamic scorer who can finish when the play has broken down. When I objectively look at Thibs, I just cant consider him a great coach, he just uses personnel very odd, he doesnt really call great offensive plays, and people say he is an amazing defensive coach, but most of his defensive schemes are man to man. Very few times do you see a zone or anything unusual to try and trip up the other team. I dont watch George Karl's team enough to really have an impression of him.
  16. QUOTE (WHarris1 @ Jun 22, 2012 -> 09:27 AM) I did not realize prior to this series that Scott Brooks was capable of such blatant stupidity as a coach. His insistence on using Kendrick Perkins despite the fact that I'm unsure if he contributed a single positive play in the entire Finals was mind blowing. Not too mention the stubbornness to stick with the double teams of LBJ despite the fact that he was dropping dimes for wide open 3s possession after possession. Until proven otherwise there are 2 coaches in the NBA who I think actually add wins to their team, Doc Rivers and Popovich. Every other coach is either neutral or a negative.
  17. Regular season records dont matter except to hope to get 1 more home game against Miami to negate their built in free throw advantage. Unlike the Bulls, the Heat dont destroy their players in the regular season to win meaningless games. Even with a completely healthy Bulls team, they arent really significantly better than OKC and OKC just got beat in 5.
  18. Now we can start talking about how the Bulls will disappoint us all in the draft.
  19. Pros and college are different. You see a lot more exotic things in college, a lot of different offense/defense match ups. Especially in the NBA its a handful of plays, its fun to watch superstars, but there is also something fun watching the different college systems go up against each other (whether its football or basketball). A lot of times NBA is hard to watch, its just pick and roll or iso, there is something fun about watching a small school try and beat a powerhouse with a barrage of 3s, or watching Duke lose to anyone.
  20. People like to watch and hope that the villain gets beat too. Its why WWE has champs who are both baby face and villain. Not to mention the success of things like NWO or "Bad Boy" Pistons.
  21. QUOTE (Jake @ Jun 21, 2012 -> 10:36 PM) lol, you're acting like LeBron didn't visit Chicago too. Lebron didnt visit Chicago, the Bulls went to Cleveland.
  22. I watch the NBA because NCAA is over and so is football. Something has to fill that sports hole.
  23. QUOTE (SoxFan1 @ Jun 21, 2012 -> 10:31 PM) What's your point? The point is people arent really giving great reasons for why they may consider Lebron a low life or be so opposed to him winning a title. If you want to hate someone, maybe you should consider Wade. The guy who toyed with the Bulls about maybe wanting to play here, just so he could pitch Lebron better on Miami.
  24. QUOTE (Jake @ Jun 21, 2012 -> 10:30 PM) I don't give a s*** what Derrick wanted and I think the fact that LeBron was so vulnerable to that sort of thing over just the logic of which team was going to be better upon arrival tells me all I need to know. I know one thing about Derrick and it's that he would never be opposed to a winning personnel move. Have you ever met Derrick Rose? And what exactly is your beef here? That Lebron went to a harder team to win with? Im just not getting where your angle is. If going to the Bulls was easier, then Lebron took the harder road. Vulnerable to what? People saying they want to play with him and that theyll have a good time and win? When you go out, do you hang with your friends at the bar? Or do you go and sit with strangers who dont want you around?
  25. lol Still plenty of time. Yeah the Thunder only need 7 stops and 7 made threes to get this to 1.
