Did anyone hear that weird guy tell his Casey Stengel story to Hawk and DJ? Was that guy supposed to be there? Did they mention who he was? I was watching WGN until about the middle of the top of the third and flipped over to hear that guy. Anyone know anything?

QUOTE(ChiSoxyGirl @ May 21, 2005 -> 08:28 PM) When you can reply to me in a civil/non-rude manner I will give your opinions some credence. Should I say likewise? For faulting me as to forgetting one simple win? Or perhaps just simply because you're becoming hypocrytical here by TELLING me I'm being a jag bag?

QUOTE(whitesoxin' @ May 21, 2005 -> 08:24 PM) We would have to give up the farm to get him though. I'm confident that Kenny can find us a better deal elsewhere. Bill Wagner would be ideal, I won't disagree. Hell, just a dominant set-up man would work. But when Gagne is Gagne, he is as good as it gets and he'll put fanny's in the park even for only pitching 1 inning.

QUOTE(Soxnbears01 @ May 21, 2005 -> 08:22 PM) who cares what they think. stop making threads about it. Or, rather, just stop reading them?

QUOTE(whitesoxin' @ May 21, 2005 -> 08:20 PM) Billy Koch meet Eric Gagne. Could be a problem, but Gagne's #1 pitch is his change-up. It might not be as effective without a high 90's fastball, but it could be serviceable enough to at least be a good set-up man if worst comes to worst.

Outstanding indeed. Need we remind them of the fabulous Felix Diaz? They are just looking for any glory they can grab in a miserable season.

QUOTE(Jabroni @ May 21, 2005 -> 08:12 PM) And 29 RBI's. This is true, but it seems that more and more he's becoming an easier out. At least for Kong and Dye you can't say the same about them when they are going at their regular pace. Let us not forget that he's also only scored 14 runs, compared to Dye's 16 and Konerko's 23.

QUOTE(Princess Dye @ May 21, 2005 -> 08:11 PM) i dont care how good we've been.... 3-4-5 will have to be better for us to take it to the next level. Podsednik can steal 2nd and 3rd, but with no one to bring him home......... I've said that from the beginning, but then again, we've always had a potent 3-4-5 that didn't bring us anything. Dye and Kong are coming around and Thomas will be back in no time. I'm not worried.

QUOTE(Jabroni @ May 21, 2005 -> 07:07 PM) I don't see how you can bash Everett. His AVG is still higher than Paulie and Dye. And it's not like he's batting .350. .250 isn't impressive by any means.

QUOTE(Jabroni @ May 21, 2005 -> 07:07 PM) I don't see how you can bash Everett. His AVG is still higher than Paulie and Dye. Don't tell me what you hit, tell me when you hit it. Props to Everett for coming through in the clutch today...though he had a chance to do it earlier.

QUOTE(traydragen @ May 21, 2005 -> 07:51 PM) Awesome CLee had 4 rbi with a homer.. I miss Carlos But heres to having Pods/Vizcaino/El Duque/Extra Cash Ahem, AJ Pierzynski.
-
One word: No. Carlos was booted because he didn't play the way Ozzie wanted him to play. He made it clear that if everyone wasn't on the same page, you wouldn't be on the team. We learned in the off-season why we were never 31-12.
-
QUOTE(traydragen @ May 21, 2005 -> 07:57 PM) Could he have made the play, yes, can you say that he should have made the play, no; in that case he would have received an error. Another excellent point.
-
QUOTE(ChiSoxyGirl @ May 21, 2005 -> 07:05 PM) Actually, we're 31-12. Which I see as having no bearing on your desire to trade away our farm system for a closer that this year hasn't even been a shadow of his former self. Oh, because god forbid me to have forgotten that we had won today. So sorry. How can you say he hasn't been a shadow of his former self when he's pitched in only two games? In his first game back, he gave up 2 ER...oh, so let's shoot the old horse in the foot and call it quits. His next outing he gave up no hits, no walks and struck out two...not to mention he fanned 3 in his first outing back. You might as well say it's worthless to get Frank Thomas off the DL because we're fine as is and he hasn't been the Thomas of old. Give me a break.
-
QUOTE(Jabroni @ May 21, 2005 -> 06:58 PM) Ummm, did you see the hit? That double damn sure wasn't luck. Everett lined the ball into the gap intentionally. I know, I was kidding. I'm just not high on Everett. Did you see him go down without a breath with runners on 1st and 2nd two outs? He does a lot more of that these days.
-
QUOTE(ChiSoxyGirl @ May 21, 2005 -> 06:59 PM) But when something we actually NEED to trade for having pillaged our farm system for a superfluous "hole" would be bad. And, as previously mentioned, the payroll being added would be detrimental to the team. Give me Hermy and resign AJ with that money and I think we'll be a better team (now and in the future). Future? We're 30-12, the future is NOW.
-
QUOTE(Jabroni @ May 21, 2005 -> 06:49 PM) Someone must not have watched today's game and missed Everett's 2-RBI double. A little occasional luck won't swade my opinion.
-
QUOTE(ChiSoxyGirl @ May 21, 2005 -> 06:51 PM) Yeah, because our farm system has consistently been one of the top in the league. Oh. No. Can somebody show me a list that ranks farm systems and the success that actually resulted from it? I wouldn't be surprised to see that most of the top farm systems result in not much, or barely getting into the playoffs. And yea, a starter going down is a risk, but when October comes, you don't need 5 starters.
-
QUOTE(Finkelstein @ May 21, 2005 -> 05:09 PM) Does anyone else think that Carl has looked much better from the right side of the plate this year? It seems like when he is hitting lefty he is trying to jack one every pitch, and when he is hitting righty he just tries to take what the pitcher gives him. He sucks, I'm convinced. Let him ride the bench for all I care.
-
QUOTE(ChiSoxyGirl @ May 21, 2005 -> 06:41 PM) Yeah, they can be shakey--but you are NEVER going to find a closer/set-up/relief guy that doesn't hit rough patches. Sure Gagne had that huge streak going--but our friend regression to the mean is catching up with him (see: performances this year). I'm not saying he's a great pitcher, because he is, I'm just saying I don't want to pillage our farm system when what we have is working quite nicely. You said it yourself, every closer will have his struggles. That means Dustin's are coming, and if they are, why not add Gagne anyway to perhaps salvage some of those struggles? There is no disputing that Hermanson as set up and Gagne as closer is more potent than Politte/Marte to Hermanson. A farm system is nice, but really, where has it gotten us the last 88 years? Oh. No where.
-
QUOTE(Jabroni @ May 21, 2005 -> 06:36 PM) Well, if Patterson can't make that play then he's pretty worthless to the team with his .292 OBP and 37 K's. I don't know who you think he is. That's a Torri Hunter type play if you ask me, is Corey as good defensively as Hunter? No.
-
QUOTE(ChiSoxyGirl @ May 21, 2005 -> 06:34 PM) That would be awful. We are not in the market for a closer right now. Let other clubs pay through the nose for him. It depends. We've all seen that Marte and Politte can be shakey, wouldn't it be a little nicer to have Hermanson in the 8th and Gagne in the 9th? I don't really want to see Marte go into full counts on every batter when it's do or die. Do you? A World Series is a World Series, potential is nothing more than that. Look at all the "can't misses" that have come through here and not done s***. Jon Rauch, Joe Blowchard, Brian Simmons, Mike Caruso, etc, etc.
-
QUOTE(Jabroni @ May 21, 2005 -> 06:33 PM) LOL. Am I getting paid millions to play CF for the Cubs? Patterson blew it, plain and simple. No, you're not. However, the blame should be on the pitcher, not Corey Patterson. How can you expect a guy to make that play? Blame it on the implosion of their crappy bullpen for giving up the hits that count. I'm not going to bust Aaron Rowand's balls if he drops that, I'm going to blame the pitcher.

QUOTE(DukeNukeEm @ May 21, 2005 -> 06:32 PM) You dont bring in Eric Gange for depth.
-
QUOTE(Jabroni @ May 21, 2005 -> 06:30 PM) Patterson is playing CF for the Cubs because of his defense. His bat is crap. He HAS to make that catch. Go in your back yard and try to make it. You won't. I promise you that ball was juggling around on him, and then to have to go in the air and try to focus it? Not an easy catch by any means.
