QUOTE(whitesoxin' @ May 21, 2005 -> 06:28 PM) Why not? I obviously don't think he can not give up a run all year, but he has what it takes to be a solid closer IMO. And I agree, you can never have too much bullpen help, but for 10 and 12 million dollars a year, I think we can find some other help for less money and less talent. The article also shows Jon Garland's name as a match with McCarthy waiting in the wings. Gagne may be nice, but not that nice.

QUOTE(LosMediasBlancas @ May 21, 2005 -> 06:25 PM) Funny, I heard Gagne for Kerry Wood+ others. That was my fear. We don't have that to give up, but granted, Kerry Wood's stock can't be extremely high these days.l

QUOTE(whitesoxin' @ May 21, 2005 -> 06:24 PM) Hermey is just fine as the closer IMO. His ERA is zero... That is wayyy to much to give up IMO as well. I won't disagree with Hermanson, but extra bullpen depth doesn't hurt. Especially given that Cotts is no sure bet, nor is Vizcaino. Politte has been good, but I don't think he'll be this good all year. And should we expect Hermanson to excell at or near this level all year?

QUOTE(Jabroni @ May 21, 2005 -> 06:15 PM) Regardless of it being a can of corn or not, Patterson should have had it. He closed his glove before the ball was in it. I'm going to disagree. Anytime a fielder leaves his feet, no fan, coach or player should say "He should have caught that." It's not easy coming in full speed, and diving forward at a ball and catching it.

Will a mod please edit the topic name? I spelled Gagne wrong.

ESPN.com wrote an article that says Gagne or Yhency Brazoban could be available at the deadline. However, seemingly stated Gagne is more likely to go. Given he is due 10 million next year and 12 in 2007, would you sacrifice your future if this guy were to put us over the top? Granted, they'd probably be asking for major league talent in return, something the Sox don't quite have to offer, or anyone that will be looking to add a closer for the stretch run. Uh, Carl Everett anyone? Would it be too much to give up say BMac + Anderson/Sweeney + Everett? Or could they be asking for even more?

It's not like it was a can of corn. I'm glad he dropped it, but c'mon.

QUOTE(shagar69 @ May 20, 2005 -> 11:18 PM) wouldnt mind him for the right price. if it were say a mccarthy and a mid level prospect id do it, Zito is still a very good pitcher IMO. Sure hes been s***ty the last 2 seasons, but before that he was what, a Cy Young Winner with liek 25 wins? hes only like 25, 26 and a left, id love to have him Good thing you aren't running the ball club. BMac and a prospect for Zito? Please. I'd ask for Zito and a prospect FOR BMac.

QUOTE(hammerhead johnson @ May 20, 2005 -> 11:17 PM) I listen to Rooney and Farmer for the most part. I looove Rooney. You say that while using a Hawkism.

QUOTE(3E8 @ May 20, 2005 -> 10:28 PM) DJ is a slice of ridiculousness. I have to admit enjoying him, however.

Did anyone hear what he said? "It was down at his knees and he just went, WOW! SOHCATOW!" I haven't laughed that hard in awhile. What the hell was that about anyway?

QUOTE(Soxnbears01 @ May 20, 2005 -> 07:49 PM) But after all that you really appreciate the 20 minute drive to teh cell. Amen. There is nothing saucy about Wrigley. I hate that f***ing place. Everything about it. Even the El ride to Comiskey is easier for some reason.

QUOTE(chisoxtime @ May 20, 2005 -> 08:21 PM) Thats true. Just a thought

Is it just me, or having won 30 games and massing a 5.5 game lead on the Twins, is this the last thing you wanted to see? For me it is. Even if BMac does come up and do well, the idea of him sucking balls and Duque going down for awhile is not one that is well to ponder.

My my own lawn? How preposterous! I've never heard of such a thing!

QUOTE(DonkeyKongerko @ May 20, 2005 -> 02:59 PM) Today's game was probably the most boring one we've won in a while. Good feeling, eh?
-
QUOTE(kapkomet @ May 19, 2005 -> 12:02 PM) That may be true, but I can also tell you that those farm boys can play some ball - there's at least one pretty decent boy on every team. To blow through a team like that is still pretty special. I've never seen it and there has been some decent pitching talent that has gone through here. Grant Johnson rings a bell.
-
QUOTE(The Critic @ May 19, 2005 -> 01:22 PM) It's not a story about which guy's team has a better record. It's about who's playing better right now, position by position. I agree that Rowand is better than Patterson, and I'd rather have Aaron on my team 7 days a week. But the fact is, Aaron got off to a slow start and that was reason enough for the writer of that article to place Patterson there instead. It's not a big deal at all. You're right that it's not a big deal, but the fact is even despite a slow start from Rowand he's putting up equal or better numbers than Corey Patterson. That writer should have taken EVERYTHING into account and not just a slow start. A .294 OBP for a lead off hitter is a start.
-
QUOTE(Dick Allen @ May 19, 2005 -> 09:03 AM) There is no way the White Sox are going to add $10 million to their payroll. Attendance hasn't improved that much. I disagree. If it's a difference maker at this point, I don't see why JR won't let KW do it.
-
QUOTE(The Critic @ May 19, 2005 -> 01:00 PM) Patterson gets the nod over Aaron because: Aaron got off to a really slow start. and It gives them a reason to choose another Cub. Slow start? Good god. The White have won 30 games, that should say something about his slow start. The fact is Aaron Rowand is better than Corey Patterson, regardless. And I don't see why Patterson being a s***ty lead off hitter doesn't drop his rating. I'd bet a pretty penny Rowand could beat out Patterson in any spot in the line-up. And why doesn't Rowand get credit for being a 5-tool player? From what I've seen of the two players, Rowand has some nicer looking tools.
-
Patterson over Rowand? What bull-s***. I've never seen a more overrated player in my life. He has five tools that he's apparently never taken out of the tool box.
