From what i know yes he does. Does not play excellent defense but his offense more than makes up for it.

Varitek is too much money and matheny cannot hit very good either but does have an excellent glove. He will also demand 2-4 million a year because of his glove alone.

In 2003 his range factor was 2.14. In 2002 his range factor was 2.04. Not that big of differance actually.

After seeing carlos's leaping catch it really sank in how much he has improved defensively this year. Only carl crawford and him and him both have perfect fielding percentages. Also he is second for left fields in outfield assists behind bonds. He is fifth in range factor and 8th in zone rating would is solid. Mad props to carlos on a muched improved defensive season.
