  1. Anyone else kind of feel that the ball hasn't been bouncing the Sox way? Tons of bloop hits by the Tribe and we hit it on the screws right at their players. Just curious if anyone else was seeing that?
  2. Stupid to bunt with one of your best hitters there. You need 1 more hit (unless you let your speed guy actually run). Why take the bat out of his hands?

QUOTE (The Gooch @ Apr 6, 2010 -> 10:09 PM) Just got back to it today after a 3 day hiatus due to excessive busy-ness. This was the 2nd time I took more than one day off at a time and both times I have come back to plyo. If that doesn't jump-start you back into the program I don't know what will. This was especially tough, as I just came of a rest week so it has been awhile since my last plyo. I'll tell you guys what though, after 3 days I was having some P90X withdrawals. Feel a lot better now This morning I had legs and back. Afterwards, I noticed that I was just feeling good. It seems like it has been a while since I felt so good and loose. I'm starting to enjoy this more and more.
  4. QUOTE (iamshack @ Apr 6, 2010 -> 02:34 PM) Well, booing is cowardly. I highly doubt a person would boo someone else upon meeting them, and yet people do it from the safety of anonymity all the time. Secondly, the point about Obama being an extremely casual fan is a fair one. If we're going to celebrate him for being a fan of our favorite franchise, it is at least fair to discuss just how much of a fan he actually is. No, I don't think any of us are unhappy that he sports the logo and colors whenever he can. Yes, it was a bit lame that he couldn't name one stinking player. I think it's pretty cool to have the White Sox being represented this way. However, I disagree with ya on the booing as it is something you do from a distance to show your disapproval in one of the few ways. When you're in front of the person, then you can discuss the problems you have with them. Do you clap right in front of a person when you meet them? That would be the opposite reaction of booing and still wouldn't make any sense. That would crack me up if I saw someone do either of those things right in front of someone. Weird that I have to go into this at all... just plain weird.
  5. QUOTE (jasonxctf @ Apr 5, 2010 -> 03:24 PM) and Andrew pops it up, just like in my MLB 10 the Show game Amazing how realistic that game is
  6. QUOTE (TitoMB @ Apr 5, 2010 -> 02:27 PM) A ball rocketed off his shin and shot to foul territory on the 1B side, and he ran over, gloved the ball, and flipped it to Konerko THROUGH HIS LEGS, NO LOOKING, and then rolled over. Konerko BARE HANDED the glove toss for the out by about 2 ms. Uhhh. Is he ok after that?
  7. QUOTE (Brian @ Apr 4, 2010 -> 07:15 PM) I don't know how you long distance runners do it. I can run on a treadmill for a mile or two, but half marathon, marathon, etc, you guys amaze me. ^^^^ I hate running unless it is playing a game or something like that. So, I can never get excited to just go out for a run. However, big props to you all who can do that.

Week 2 seems much easier than the first week now that I know what to expect. I'd definitely say it takes about a week before the soreness is not all that bad.
  9. I know that we are just talking about the perfect game, but I'd like to throw in the 5 2/3 of innings in the next game on top of it that Buehrle was perfect. 45 straight hitters up and down (I think it also includes an out from his previous game), which no one had ever done before.

Did arms and shoulders today. Should make volleyball pretty interesting tonight. I didn't realize until today that I should have been doing the Ab Ripper on some of the days too

DVDs will be delivered today sometime. Looking forward to getting started on this. What do you guys do on trips? Do you take it with you? I'm being sent out for some training for a week, and am not sure what the best way to keep it going would be.
  13. QUOTE (bmags @ Mar 25, 2010 -> 01:06 PM) Here's how the government will track you down and throw you in guantanimo if you are republican. ... A cynical consumer would be smart to pay the modest penalty rather than pay thousands of dollars a year for insurance. In the current system, that's a bad idea because insurers won't let them buy insurance if they get sick later. In the reformed system, there's no consequence for that behavior. You could pay the penalty for five years and then buy insurance the day you felt a lump. Luckily, consumers aren't usually that cynical, and the experience of places such as Massachusetts suggests that individual mandates encourage people to buy insurance even when it might make sense for people to simply pay the penalty. But for all the furor over the individual mandate, the danger in the bill is much more that it is too weak and too good a deal than that it is too strong and too punitive a tax. ... http://voices.washingtonpost.com/ezra-klei...ual_mandat.html These are the sorts of things I've been suggesting can happen. Are people going to get insurance with the weak mandate? I would hope that the MA experience corresponds in that part of it with what happens here.
  14. QUOTE (whitesoxfan101 @ Mar 23, 2010 -> 03:31 PM) With the exception of those who legitimately can't afford it, I'm not sure I understand why people wouldn't want to buy healthcare if they could. I do see the point on how forcing people to buy it is constitutionally questionable at best though. IMO, it's a matter of cutting corners when money is tight. What do you pull out when you are tightening the belt? As an example, what percentage of people have life insurance and are protecting their families in the event of a sudden death when they can afford it? Do they hold onto those policies when money is tight? We are a country of the here and now where it seems like a lot of people would rather spend money on their cell phone plan than make sure that they are taking care of long-term needs.
  15. QUOTE (Y2HH @ Mar 23, 2010 -> 12:57 PM) Wasn't part of the deal with the drug companies to ban some foreign drug imports or something to that effect? I'd have to look that up because there is a lot of misinformation out there about this, but if that is the case, that's not creating a level playing field, it's slanting it in the American drug companies favor. Don't forget about the sweet deal with the 12 years that they get on exclusivity with their name-brand drugs. That will make it harder to access the generic, lower costing drugs. We will pay more because of that one.
  16. QUOTE (bmags @ Mar 23, 2010 -> 10:11 AM) You know how they are estimating that only 32 million will get insurance instead of that full number excluding non-citizens? It's because they already planned for a number of people like that. but 750 is a lot of money...and I just have a hard time believing that many people will look at not getting health insurance as saving money when they are paying that. And even being young and healthy, like me, i still had to visit the hospital twice in college for freak accidents. I think people are well aware of how scary it is to live without it. I'm not sure that I share your optimism, but who knows? I do know that young and healthy people tend to feel invincible. So, there needs to be an incentive there for them to buy into it. Considering other costs they have to pay, like for their education, insurance may go on the chopping block.
  17. QUOTE (bmags @ Mar 23, 2010 -> 09:38 AM) vandy, let me get this right. You would rather pay 750 dollars a year than pay hundreds more to get an actual product in return? And so you will go to the doctors office uninsured after years of (likely) putting off the costs and not taking your symptoms seriously because you'd have to pay out of pocket for the health care costs, and now pay for all the diagnosis equipment they'd need to find out it's cancer, and now, instead of the months or years you could have used to fight the cancer early you waited until it was noticeably affecting you. But now you can jump in easier to get insurance! And you saved a few hundred bucks! You realize cancer kills right? And it's not something you want to play chicken with? I'm actually in the group that you want to get insurance. I'm healthy, young, and single. So, I would definitely take a closer look to see if I actually do need it. You are probably right that I would go ahead and get it. However, there are plenty of people in just this same situation who won't. I now have a choice here that I can make a pretty significant case for both sides. Before this, it was always the case that you made sure that you had insurance if possible at all because of the pre-existing conditions issue. Now, that is not clear cut at all. If you are young and healthy, your risk has just dropped a ton with not getting insurance and you can save money too. I'm not sure that there is a strong enough push to get and keep the young and healthy in the insurance pool.
  18. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Mar 23, 2010 -> 07:18 AM) Are you serious? You think you'll get affordable insurance, or insurance at all, if you suddenly have cancer as a pre-existing condition? Or are we talking future state with the new bill in effect? I'm talking future, with the new bill. That's why I wasn't sure I was reading his statement right. It sounded like he was talking about after the new plan is in place. I'm not sure why when the future plan is in place if you are able to save a couple of hundred bucks by not having insurance, you wouldn't go ahead and do that.
  19. QUOTE (lostfan @ Mar 23, 2010 -> 06:51 AM) The only way I can see this not working is if a bunch of people choose to pay the fine instead of buying insurance. That's a hell of an assumption though, people aren't numbers. If I didn't have insurance, and I suddenly can afford it, I'm buying insurance, not looking to save a couple hundred dollars. s***, my whole family is healthy now, but do you see me putting that $400 some-odd dollars a month in my pocket? No... That said, yeah, the fees the insurance companies are going to pay will come out of that new pool of profits they'll have - this was their idea since it was their lobbyists that were involved in writing it, not some evil socialist. I'm not sure I read that right. Are you saying that if you saved a couple of hundred bucks a year by not having insurance, you wouldn't do it? I sure would. Especially since I know that if I were to get something bad like cancer or something like that I could jump into the insurance pool at any time.
  20. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Mar 22, 2010 -> 09:31 PM) Ezra has a read on how the exchanges actually work that is better than I can write. In a different post, he also address the matter I was scoffing at 2k5 about a moment ago in an interview with a Princeton economist (no, not that one). Holy cow! 40 cents of each dollar on admin? The company I work for is at 7 cents of every dollar to admin, with 5 cents going to taxes, we shoot for a 0-2 cent profit and pay out 86 cents of every dolllar. Last year, we lost a ton of money and actually paid out something like 93 or 94 cents of every dollar that we took in. Who the heck are these 40 cent companies?

QUOTE (iamshack @ Mar 15, 2010 -> 11:32 AM) I'd be careful here. A lot of people who bought them through ebay or amazon vendors got only the DVDs (as opposed to the literature, which, while admittedly is not necessary, is helpful), and from what I have read, a LOT of those DVDs were low-quality or defective. I ordered straight from Beachbody.com, and paid $9 for a lifetime guarantee of the DVDs. There are certainly cheaper ways to obtain the program, but trust me, if you stick with it, it's going to be worth every penny you spend and far, far more. Yeah, I've noticed there are a lot of those comments on Amazon.com. So, I may just stay away from that, but it is not easy to throw $140 at it. Can you order it cheaper when one of the infomercials on it is going?

Got all of the equipment (building my own pullup bar). Just need to find a good place to get the DVDs. I'm seeing if I can find a deal on em somewhere.
  24. I've got a good Asus one that I enjoy. When there is no Wifi around, I can use a bluetooth connection to my phone to use that as a modem to connect to the internet. Basically anywhere that I have a phone signal, I can access the internet. So, I can sit on the bus and check my email pretty easily. If you are going for just internet and won't be storing much on there, I'd go with a SSD one. I can run iTunes and Office on mine, but I mainly use it for the web.
