    The Cove

QUOTE (ChiSox_Sonix @ Sep 1, 2010 -> 07:13 AM) http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Iowa_Chops I was just about to mention them... I've gone to see a game or two.
  2. QUOTE (DBAHO @ Jul 7, 2010 -> 06:59 AM) Lebron's ego is so big, it's no surprise to see him doing something like this. It's just quite sad to watch really. There's really not much class at all in doing something like this, when there are a bunch of other guys who are FA's who have to wait until this situation plays out before they can sign with anyone basically. Glad to see I'm not the only one thinking this. 1 hour "special" on ESPN? Really? One of the ESPN analysts called the signing "historic"... The kind of bloated ego I see with this makes me think a lot less of him.
  3. QUOTE (Controlled Chaos @ Jun 15, 2010 -> 02:20 PM) You could really screw with people on your voicemail. "Please press the octothorpe to skip this message" I like it, and since one of the things I work on is phone systems like that, I'd laugh if they let me put a message like that in place. Maybe in our development environment... "To continue, please press octothorpe"
  4. Looks like AZ is taking another step in the illegal immigration battle Illegal Immigrant's Kids Denied Citizenship Not sure how it would ever pass off as constitutional, but there it is, a law to not allow citizenship to kids that are born in the US but have illegal immigrant parents.
  5. QUOTE (beckham15 @ Jun 9, 2010 -> 09:45 PM) OT c'mon guys all you need is one shot Don't you mean "One Goal"?
  6. Anyone else see the 3rd period as being the prevent defense?
  7. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Jun 9, 2010 -> 10:38 AM) I love this competition to be honest. You have cellular carriers competing against one another for the most superior service for their. You have hardware vendors competing for the best piece of technology for their customers. You have software companies and developers competing for the best end user experience and customer loyalty. You have accessory companies competing for the best experience and value for their customers. It really cant get much better than this. Cable and Sat companies arent even competing and advancing as much as this market. I f***ing love it. Its about f***ing time. ^^^^ it's all just creating better products for the users.
  8. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Jun 9, 2010 -> 10:35 AM) Interesting. I didnt know about the upgrade. I assume once the hardware companies will then unleash 2.2 versions with their skins on top of that as well which will make users buy more phones. You just simply dont see hardware companies unleashing the exact same OS on phones that compete with each other, the OS was one of the things that always made phones very different from each other. Yeah, I just read about this yesterday. The problem with them working on skins of 2.2 is that Google is working on 2.3 while they are doing that (as an example). So, they may release their phone with this great, new skin on 2.2 while Google releases 2.3 and already does many of the things their skin does while adding other improvements. Then, the 2.3 version won't port over. So, the company would need to try and work on 2.3 while Google just keeps on moving. It's a losing game IMO as they would always be playing catch up with what is a company focused much more on software than any hardware company would/should be.
  9. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Jun 9, 2010 -> 10:27 AM) But each phone distributer wants THEIR phone to stick out which is why they will tweak the way the OS looks so that their users become accustomed to their brand of phones. I dont think we'll see a universal OS for all phones across the Android OS, because simply, those hardware companies dont want to be the same as each other. Actually, I think you are totally wrong on this point. If they tweak the OS, then they start losing out on the updates to the Android OS (can't go from v2.1 to v2.2 as an example). This is already the case for a few phones, and is a good reason NOT to buy them. Here's an article on just that sort of thing: http://www.wired.com/gadgetlab/2010/06/androids-acne-problem
  10. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Jun 8, 2010 -> 07:39 PM) so does the droid, so count that in their total as well. And with the Android just being an operating system, accessory manufacturers have several phones to concentrate on which makes it extremely hard to make anything of value. iphone? How many docking stations, boomboxes, car controls etc have been designed for the apple hardware? How many new cars come with a droid accessory plug in that you can control with your steering wheel. The hardware and the OS being from one company is what is going to keep the iphone at the top, couple that with a ridiculously larger population of ap developers, and there is what is making it the best. That is a good point for now, but I know we are heading in the direction where you just keep your phone in your pocket and all these accessories wirelessly interact with the software on the phone. You won't need those docking stations any more.
  11. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jun 9, 2010 -> 08:49 AM) Where is the "It depends on what type of rock they're throwing" option? ^^^ They can be deadly, but it depends on a lot of circumstances. And I would add is usually pretty unlikely. Who really knows though? These could have been unusual circumstances so I have no place to say either way.
  12. QUOTE (PlaySumFnJurny @ Jun 7, 2010 -> 10:53 AM) I couldn't believe this wasn't discussed by the announcers, let alone called by the officials. Harntell was across the goal line and partly inside the net, clearly blocking Niemi's lateral movement, and the shot was to that side. I know its a non-reviewable judgment call, but it seemed pretty obvious to me, and I though it at least warranted some analysis and an explanation. I was wondering this too. As a new fan who started watching when Dollar Bill (as my old man is fond of calling him) was gone, I wasn't sure if it was something I didn't know about it. It was obvious that the guy was in Niemi's way over the goal line. I didn't think that you could do that.
  13. So, if you are losing by 4, can you kick it in your own goal a few times and get the win?...
  14. QUOTE (IlliniKrush @ May 28, 2010 -> 09:26 AM) Look, we all know Joe West can be a prick. His hand gesture and what he supposedly said is what to take issue with more so than the call (even though it was clearly questionable). But don't question whether or not he knows the rules, because he clearly does. If he didn't and wasn't qualified, he wouldn't be in the game for this long. Maybe he had an agenda, maybe he "got balked' himself, maybe he legitimately thought he had a balk - we don't know, we can speculate. Even Ozzie said he's one of the best umpires in the game. Ozzie wasn't even arguing the balk call, he was upset with the actions between him and Mark, then him and Ozzie. Actually Ozzie stated that he didn't argue the balk call because he is not allowed to do that. Ozzie vs Joe West
  15. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ May 27, 2010 -> 01:56 PM) First of all, she deserves to be fired for the crappy organization of the response. Secondly, if she's had 11 months to start cleaning that organization out, and hasn't done it, then this disaster shows how important it is to get someone on the job who can. Third...At least someone's being forced to fall on their sword. Frankly, I'd rather have trophy scalps than give out medals and promotions for failure. That said, yeah, you're right, this drilling site and drilling plan was approved before she was confirmed and was therefore approved by the previous administration's people, so it's not like this is all her fault. Hey, I completely agree with you here. I was just pointing out that she shouldn't be the only one hit by this. There needs to be much much more than just her taking the fall.
  16. QUOTE (T R U @ May 27, 2010 -> 01:36 PM) sure, but that doesn't have anything to do with the relationship of weather to player.. a power running game is a power running game, the Dolphins and Jets both had top 5 running attacks last season.. how? very good offensive lines and good backs.. the conditions of their homes? complete opposites.. Eh, I don't really care about the relationship of weather to player since that is too narrow of a view to scope. If we widen the view to the systems which you did admit are partially built based upon their home fields, that is when you get to my point. If a systems are built for outdoor fields in the north and systems are built for fields in the south/dome fields, then why is it that you only have the biggest game of the year in south/dome fields? The teams that are built for the outdoor fields up north would seem to be at a bit of a disadvantage every year. I guess that I'm saying is that throughout the whole season teams play in all kinds of different weather and some systems are set up to take advantage of the type of weather they hit the most. Why would the Superbowl not be played in all kinds of weather?
  17. QUOTE (T R U @ May 27, 2010 -> 02:55 AM) Teams don't give considerations for that.. I don't think Mark Sanchez played a single cold weather game in his college career, does that mean the Jets should have said no thanks to acquiring him because they would have some cold games later in the year? Of course not.. Teams are built with players they feel will work in whatever system they are trying to run, I have never once heard of a team passing on someone because they don't feel they fit in the weather of the city.. Would you say that the system that teams set up to run is partially dictated by the type of home field they have? I'd say so as you typically have those dome teams running systems with a lot of passing. If my home field is one where crazy wind and weather can come in, I'm not going to have a system that goes crazy throwing the ball unless I have some unique players that can handle that (i.e. Tom Brady). I've always preferred a good running attack in Chicago for precisely this reason. You have to have a very good QB to be able to handle the weather there.
  18. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ May 27, 2010 -> 10:38 AM) The head of the MMS has also received hierPresidential Medal of Freedom walking papers. She had been on the job for only 11 months. This goes back further than just her (yes, it probably does include her too).
  19. I'm just going to add that I do think it is good to think once in a while about what is at the center of our lives, and this is a good day to do that, no matter what it is. I see it more as that than a "religious" activity.
  20. QUOTE (StrangeSox @ May 1, 2010 -> 03:48 PM) What secular or non-religious purpose does NDoP serve? I'm pointing directly at the law, "make no law regarding an establishment of religion". I don't see how this is doing that because you can pray (or not pray) to whatever in the world or out of the world that you want. But heck, if you are your own god, give yourself a peptalk that day.
  21. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ May 1, 2010 -> 03:34 PM) So why do I have to be encouraged to engage in a religious activity, regardless of whatever deity we're talking about? That is completely avoiding my question... You have the freedom to do whatever you want to do. If someone doesn't want to pray to whatever god they do or don't serve (he/she/it/whatever), then don't. Which religion is it establishing?
  22. I'm curious, which religion is government endorsing or establishing by having a NDOP? With prayer being so general as to convey a word or thought to God or a god, you can pray to anything that you like. Whatever your god is (yourself, White Sox, sports, Athena) go right ahead.

QUOTE (SoxAce @ Apr 15, 2010 -> 03:13 PM) Keep up the good work guys. Bad news on me personally, did not workout all of last week cause I lost motivation for some reason after hanging with friends and all the compliments and such. Then when I wanted to go back to it, I had a severe hamstring strain on both legs working on the back-yard and still have it now, but trying to fight through it. I gotta say I feel bloated. Feels like I gained 10 pounds since I've been cheating alot. Dunno if I have it in me to continue. Wow. That sucks. Keep at it man. I was just starting to see some results and got knocked down by allergies due to the crazy amount of pollen in the air. I'm looking to start back up next week.

QUOTE (Leonard Zelig @ Apr 12, 2010 -> 12:38 PM) 1 down, 89 to go. i am using bands, curious to see how I feel tomorrow. I've been doing pull ups the past few weeks to prepare myself, taking a minute or two break between sets. Doing them right after the push ups really cuts down on my reps, thank you chair. I don't think I got through one ab exercise without taking a break. Oh well, should only get better from here on out. Nice work LZ. It gets better as you go. I've got 73 to go and am already seeing improvement.
  25. QUOTE (fathom @ Apr 8, 2010 -> 11:08 PM) We got a gift run because the ump refused to ring up Quentin. We're not getting breaks because we're striking out a ton tonight. Ah. I turned it on way after we were apparently done scoring for the night...
