4/24 Gamethread: Sox (11-9) vs Yankees (12-10), 7:11 WGN
Palehosefan replied to rangercal's topic in 2008 Season in Review
Jermaine had a running start and still couldn't throw out Jason Giambi at the plate. That's just... bad. -

Rich picked himself up a heck of a QB for his offense in Kevin Newsome today. Great get. -
Kenny Smith's shoe commercial in answer to Kobe's.

Chris Paul is just incredible. Thank God Matt Doherty asked him to walk-on at UNC.

Now it seems Wayne and Ty Lawson are returning and Tyler will test the waters. Can't say I blame him. -

I think Thabeet is almost 100% returning now. I have also heard today that all three might be returning to UNC afterall. Roy has told Tyler it's his choice whether he leaves or not and he has his blessing. Roy told Wayne and Ty that they should return after hearing from NBA sources that they were late 1st round picks at the best and very likely could slide into the 2nd. -
Jason Rice would be interesting to keep an eye on if he has his walks under control at all. 214 IP in his career, given up only 165 hits, and 229 K's. But then there's the ugly 161 BB's which puts his ERA at 4.46.

4/18 Games -> Egbert to BHam, Starting Tonight

Man, I don't ever want to play in that league. -
In the end I think only South Florida or Cincinatti will be interested AND be able to get Brumbaugh in at the same time.

Right now it seems... Hansbrough, staying Ellington, 50/50 Lawson, leaving Team would be ok next year if Ellington stays with Hansbrough. -
What teams do you pledge allegiance to?
Palehosefan replied to shipps's topic in Alex’s Olde Tyme Sports Pub
Depends on what season it is for me. During this time of the year the Sox are far and away my favorite. During Spring Training or the offseason they might slip behind a few others. I do have to admit that after UNC lost to Kansas, it didn't hurt nearly as bad because I was enjoying the Sox success. -

He would also have to return his Signing Bonus. ;-) -

Only teams I have ever cared for in my short 24 years. Chisox, baseball, since Frank arrived Steelers, football, since Levon Kirkland days Heat, since Timmy Hardaway arrived UNC, since Stackhouse, Greg Ellis days TTU, since becoming a student a few years ago Flyers, since Lindros early days, interested waned over the years but I still keep an eye. -
The NBA's owners, "CEO" Stern, and the employees/players themselves have agreed to this set of rules. The only way I see this changing is if the government gets bored again and decides the text about the Age restriction is discrimination.
-
All players must be at least 19 years of age during the calendar year of the draft. A player who completed basketball eligibility at an American high school must also be at least one year removed from the graduation of his high school class.I could see the age part coming under fire soon, and it should. I'm assuming that the proposed new set would just change it to 20 years and 2 years removed from high school. However, there is no need for the age addendum.

That doesn't really fly here. The NBA is basically denying internships due to a lack of experience for these kids wanting to join out of high school. The NBA is an organization that offers some of the best jobs in the world, but only to the most talented. It's absolutely no different than Microsoft wanting a Bachelors degree, or a few years of IT experience before being offered an internship. The NBA is saying currently that you can become part of the organization by EITHER being one year out of high school, or of a certain age. If the NBA only applied the age rule, then there could be a significant beef. However, a guy like Kevin Durant was given an "internship" due to being one year out of high school, and didn't meet the age requirement still from my knowledge of it. These kids can play in other leagues, or get millions to play overseas, however they just can't join this elite organization until they have the experience.

I think one year is better than nothing, but two years would be ideal for me. However, more has to be done about the shoe industry and their access to high school talent. Scum like Sonny Vaccaro need to be kept away from kids. These guys get in the talented kids heads and tell them all kinds of great things, like how they are going to be drafted in the 1st round. Then draft day comes and they end up as an Ousmanne Cisse or a Lenny Cooke. Some of these talented kids that are forced to come into college for a year find out that they aren't quite ready and end up staying at least 2 years anyways. Others that never wanted to be there in the first place end up at a Memphis and get their exposure and head out a year later. I would love to see a crackdown on graduation rates as well. Graduating less than 25% of your players should never be acceptable, EVER. Punish schools like Memphis that thrive on kids that other schools can't or won't touch. Let the other kids that never belonged in college go overseas for a year or play in the NBDL and refine their skills. They shouldn't be in college anyways, much less playing in the tourney for Memphis, or others. Edit: Forgot to mention, I want a 2 year minimum so that it at least produces a healthy portion towards graduating and hopefully pushes kids past classes such as "chair stacking".

Man, if only the car was a little higher. ;-)

Hopefully this first start goes much better than the other first start.

Could you maybe put in bold the players that have hired an agent and are officially gone? Thanks for doing this thread by the way. Thanks for the bold.

I would have had no problem at all if Roy would have been decked out in his Kansas gear at home watching the game, or even sitting in the stands to watch the game without the Kansas sticker and colors. Instead his team is at home watching the team that just handed them their asses with Roy sitting on his hands, while Roy is at the game cheering on the team that sent them home. It's just absolutely retarded. Whatever psychological problems Roy has with the Kansas departure, he needs to get over it immediately, otherwise he's not going to have the UNC or the Kansas job. That and I'm tired of hearing him constantly harp about hating to have to do coaches shows or coaches radio shows, and always mentioning how he has more passion for UNC in his little pinky than any of the fans have in their body. I now understand what Kansas fans were always talking about when they said he would drive you nuts even with all his success. -
Maybe we can see Roy getting a turn up there to cut down the nets :-).

Congrats Jimbo and Watchtower.

Roy really needs to watch what he says here. Most UNC fans have had about enough of him, especially after seeing him wearing a kansas shirt and rooting for them two days after getting embarassed by them.
