Quentin couldn't believe he caught that (neither could anyone else.)
-
Rios looked like he moved closer to the plate that AB. Law of averages has him getting hot soon anyway.
-
I still can't get more bothered by Rios than I am with Pierre.

What did we win last year?

QUOTE (Milkman delivers @ Apr 30, 2011 -> 10:21 AM) I haven't bought one ticket this year, and I won't so long as they play anywhere near this level. If they bring Ozzie back in 2012 if they don't make the playoffs this year or even if they do hobble in and get raped in the ALDS, I won't attend a single game in 2012. This is the stuff I don't get. Go to games. I mean I can see this being the view of the general public, but not someone on a Sox message board. You're either with this outfit or you're not.

QUOTE (greg775 @ Apr 29, 2011 -> 11:51 PM) But Marty, you didn't think the starting pitching would be great? "On paper" it again looked dominant If Peavy wasn't going to be the top of the rotation starter he was acquired to be, I never thought they'd be World Series contenders. Not only hasn't he he been that top of rotation starter, he had a major injury. Yet the optimism was overflowing this winter.

QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Apr 30, 2011 -> 07:27 AM) Lol@you take no pleasure. That's exactly what you're doing. The "optimists" had every right to think this would be a good team. And it still very well could be. But they do have to get this s*** turned around and like fast. Otherwise will need a Rockies-like second half run to get back in this thing. Ive plunked down money for season tickets every year for the past 14, going to at least 50 games per during that time. Trust me this is no fun.

QUOTE (greg775 @ Apr 29, 2011 -> 11:35 PM) How did you know? I fell for the hype after signing of Dunn and Crain. Team is really really putrid. Older core. Was a very good bet that they maxed out last year.

Love this board and I take no pleasure in being right predicting this as a mediocre team (at best) during this offseason, but what were optimists thinking?

Hugs in the clubhouse.

Return 10-16. Change tomorrow Fathom? Insights?

White Sox (Buehrle) v. Yankees (Tub O' Goo)
Marty34 replied to Reddy's topic in 2011 Season in Review
Konerko, Quentin, and Ramirez are the only Sox hitters that can handle a good fastball. -

I don't know about Beckham, but my vote goes to Thornton as the team's biggest head case. -

Vehemently disagree with running for Quentin -

Fear not Kenny is passing out hugs in the clubhouse. He'd rather turn over the buffet table, but the Yankees would stick the Sox with a BIG clean up tab. -
White Sox (Humber) v. Yankees (Burnett) 6:05pm

Our outfielders even when they make a catch look like they've never seen a fly ball. I've never seen anything like it. -

Humber's got a little better fastball tonight than he had in Tampa. Sets up the rest of his pitches better. -

Fathom's right. Yankees in NY is the worst possible match up for Humber. Might we see Sale go more than 2 innings tonight in mop up as a way to see if he's back on track or if not demoted? -
Laumann's drafts haven't given me hope that he's the right guy.
-
Drafting football players like KW, Borchard, and Fields has provided this organization with such great talent, I could see why they went back to that well. As a H.S. OF'er no way KW was going to take him with the first pick. The organization looks for quick fixes (college) in the first round.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Apr 24, 2011 -> 06:13 PM) And yet you have no problem saying that they made a mistake. Correct. You would not trade Mitchell for Trout?
-
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Apr 24, 2011 -> 05:54 PM) The only reaction on this board to the Angels taking Trout was "hmph, the Angels sure like outfielders, don't they?" The majority in the draft thread seemed to want Rex Brothers, hard throwing lefty who went to Colorado a few picks later and has been in their minor league bullpens from day 1 of entering that org. Here's the thread. Not one person here complained about the Sox passing on Trout. Maybe I'm crazy, but I hold White Sox scouts to a higher standard than message board posters.

QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Apr 24, 2011 -> 04:35 PM) OK I'm trying to goof around here today but just stumbled upon this gem...what a load of s***. If you knew that Mike Trout was going to be this good when the draft was going on, you'd be in a front office somewhere. Nobody knows jacks*** about anything. People really wanted Cesar Carillo too, and he's f***ing cabbage at this point. Jared Mitchell is still an extremely talented player and could develop into a fantastic leadoff or #2 hitter down the road. Or he could bust, just like Mike Trout still could too. Or Mike Trout may have busted in the White Sox system already while Mitchell flourished in Anaheim's. Coaching is a huge factor in these players' developments, especially at this early of an age, and we have no idea if Trout would have taken to the Sox coaches' teachings as well as he has the Angels'. Nobody knows something like that in advance, and suggesting you did otherwise, especially about something as unpredictable as the draft, is a goddamn joke. Where did I suggest I knew anything about the draft? Do I expect KW or someone in the Sox FO to be decent scouts? Yes I do. You're damn right I do. What's troubling about your post though is that you don't see a problem at all with the organization taking Mitchell ahead of Trout.

Platoon Teahen/Pierre in left. Leadoff Rios v. righties.

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Apr 23, 2011 -> 03:36 PM) Like Ordonez, Carlos Lee, Tadahito Iguchi, Shingo Takatsu, Alexei Ramirez and Dayan Viciedo? If there's ONE huge issue every Sox fan SHOULD have, it's with the Wilder/Dominican fiasco and the fact we haven't been able to get any prospects out of Venezuela when it's Ozzie's homeland. Nor, in the end, has Ozzie been able to use his connections to get any free agents here, other than maybe someone like Omar Vizquel. I guess you have to give Guillen SOME credit for being able to get the Freddy Garcia deal done, that's one occasion that can be cited. Who's the last Dominican prospect we developed? Jesus Pena? And for Venezuela, Clevelan Santeliz? Pretty abysmal. If Sale and Beckham both become stars, that's a huge improvement from the draft picks of 2000-2007. And certainly, we've never gotten involved in a "posting war" for one of the Japanese stars, but you could argue that unless you're the Red Sox or Yankees, doing so hasn't been so wise unless we're talking about a "once in a lifetime" player in his prime like Ichiro Suzuki. I have a recurring nightmare that Kenny's involvement in recent 1st round picks combined with his love of football players playing baseball cost us Mike Trout two years ago.
