QUOTE (whitesoxfan99 @ Mar 7, 2016 -> 02:16 PM) So Whitman said Lovie's available funds for assistants will be competitive with the top of the Big 10 and I've heard $4 million rumored. He's "only" getting 2 million for now thanks to the Bucs still paying him 10 million over the next two years. So yeah they should have a lot of money to give out. And of course donors are going to should tart giving more now that there's finally after some stability.

QUOTE (bmags @ Mar 7, 2016 -> 09:40 AM) It's going to be very interesting to see his staff. But, it seems like Lovie often grabbed coaches from college, I imagine his coaching contacts after so many years are a lot wider than fans would know. His network has to be about as large as anyone's in football. That alone should be huge. I don't know about this season because we're late in the game, but I do expect some big name assistants.

QUOTE (2005thxfrthmmrs @ Mar 7, 2016 -> 08:13 AM) People are putting too much into that Rousey and Holm fight. It's pretty evident that Rousey has tore up the division and she wanted to challenge herself further by beating a world class boxer at her own game. It backfired big time for her. If you watched that fight, you'd see that that wasn't the same Ronda Rousey we saw before. I have no doubt that Rousey would destroy Holm in the first round if she focuses on what she does best the next time they fight. Her coach is an idiot and needs to be fired ASAP (for reasons even outside of being an awful coach). Ronda needs to listen to her mother.

I still like Kaplan because he talks a lot of baseball during the offseason unlike pretty much everyone else. I'll take the biggest Cubs blowhard talk over Bears football when it's the dead of Winter. Him defending the Cubs on this is hilarious though.

White Sox Sign Austin Jackson
QUOTE (GreenSox @ Mar 7, 2016 -> 07:20 AM) Latest for Laroche was the first half of 2014. And he did nothing last year. No wants to give Avi 600 at bats, but he also isn't past his prime. Laroche on the bench with Avi/Melky leaves us without a late inning defensive outfielder. It's essentially 2 DHs. Now without Laroche one of these guys is going to have to learn to play some first. And of course they're going to have to do some intelligent platooning to maximize this roster You can have Shuck on the bench with Avi. There's no need for another infielder outside Saladino on the bench. It should be Avila, Saladino, Shuck, and Avi with Garcia platooning.

Week late on this but here's Meltzer's obituary on White Sox owner Eddie Einhorn: His obituary stories are the best thing across all of wrestling writing so I hope Meltzer does a full write up on him.

I'd have Avila, Shuck, Avi, and Saladino on the bench. Avi can platoon and Shuck can serve as the more traditional 4th OFer.

QUOTE (nitetrain8601 @ Mar 6, 2016 -> 01:09 PM) My point exactly. Holm was winning the fight 3-1 and was on her way to winning completely before Meisha was able to grapple her. I'd be more interested in Holm vs Tate II than Rousey vs Tate 24324 Source on the scores? Round 2 should have been 10-8 for for Tate. She could have been given 3 and would have definitely won 5. I would have had Tate winning had it gone to the judges. Draw at worst.. Edit: Just saw the official scores. All three had it a 10-8 in round 2. Would have been a draw had Tate not finished.

QUOTE (raBBit @ Mar 6, 2016 -> 11:19 AM) Her legacy has already taken a hit. She hasn't beat anyone good. She's basically the women's Chuck Liddell. Took advantage of fighters who weren't elite and had a heavy hand. Miesha Tate had such a great plan yesterday though. I thought Holly was still impressive in a loss but Tate just did not allow her to get inside. The best part of the night for me was when Diaz caught McGregor with a combo right on the chin. McGregor gets slumped and before he regains his control he's still showing off and being cocky. I don't know if he was out of it or trying to pretend he wasn't rocked but Diaz just picked him apart from that point on. Diaz is really just a fighter - at no point did he ever look nervous or overmatched. That second round was just masterful, he just stuck to his game. He never tried to do too much, he just kept taking what he was given. RE: McGregor vs Diaz, McGregor got absolutely rocked on that shot and never recovered. He had absolutely no balance even when not being pressured from that point out. Honestly I believe the weight made all the difference. Diaz weighed 15 lbs more. McGregor landed a ton of clean shots to Diaz' head and yet he was unfazed. MacGregor, despite having a great chin, takes one clean hit and was basically out from there.

Rousey is the GOAT. I don't like her, but she asks for a title shot she gets it.

QUOTE (zenryan @ Mar 6, 2016 -> 12:12 AM) McGregor's s*** ground game exposed. Rumors of him fighting GSP at UFC 200 sounds even funnier now. That wasn't his s*** ground game. Dude was wobbled as f*** for a full minute after one punch. He barely knew where he was. He was about to get ktfo'd and had no choice but to go to the groud as a last ditch effort. He was done regardless, wasn't protecting himself at all.

QUOTE (AustinIllini @ Mar 5, 2016 -> 05:22 PM) "Hi. I'm Lovie Smith. I have coached in two Super Bowls and I have coached some of the best defensive players in the last decade. I think you have what it takes to be an NFL linebacker. Come to Illinois and let's do something special," he said, without any emotions. Yep. Going to be easy for him as long as he's motivated. Don't see why he won't be.

QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Mar 5, 2016 -> 04:54 PM) Lovie the football coach would be a great hire. But how well could he recruit? That would be my concern, not that Illinois kills it on the recruiting trail now. Name value in Chicago. It's an assistants world anyways and Cubit did an okay job at putting together a staff.

Bernie Sanders agreed to do a Fox News Town Hall. Clinton declined said she had a scheduling conflict. Then she heard Bernie was going so she agreed. Either way, I'll give her credit. Pretty ballsy to show up.
