Official "Squared Circle" Thread
QUOTE(kyyle23 @ Jun 26, 2007 -> 10:25 PM) So you are saying this, and yet SI.com is saying this So if the steroids caused the depression/paranoia/explosive outburst, and the depression/paranoia/explosive outburst led to the murder of Benoits wife and son, and his following suicide, would it be fair to assume that steroids had something to do with this? From Wikipedia: "One of the most common misconceptions regarding the side effects of anabolic steroids is known as ‘roid rage’. There seems to be little or no evidence such a condition actually exists. The majority of recent studies done on "angry behavior" and anabolic steroid use show no psychological effect, implying that either "roid rage" does not exist or that anabolic steroids' effects on aggression are too small to be measured. Harvard researcher Harrison Pope, M.D. stated “With regard to the ‘roid rage’ issue, my first reaction as a scientist, obviously, is that ‘roid rage’ is a meaningless term that simply arose in popular parlance”. Many scientists and medical professionals have concluded anabolic steroids have no real effect on increased aggressive behavior." This is probably why my quick Google searches on violent, steroid caused crimes returned nothing. I honestly think this guy was just that f***ed up in the head. The more we learn about him, the more we know his mental problems extend well beyond the last week.

QUOTE(fathom @ Jun 26, 2007 -> 10:05 PM) Oh yeah...I find it funny that some people are pointing to it as reasons why steroids can't be blamed. I'm with you though, it's going to get annoying the next few months with the crap wrestling's going to get. Steroids can't be blamed because their not the answer here. Seriously, how many serials murders have ever been recorded as been attributed to steroids? I'm going to go out on a limb and say none. Yes, I'm familiar with "roid rage". But last I checked that caused short bursts of rage, not the planned murder of three people over a three day period. The man has been said to have been psychotic for weeks now. Steroids had nothing to do with this, whether he took them or not. Just doing a little research here, according to Ryan Clark, WWE uses the same program from a 3rd party that MLB uses.

QUOTE(briguy27 @ Jun 26, 2007 -> 09:18 PM) They said on Vengance they would announced who "killed" Vince. Did they announce it? Actually, that was what last night's Raw was supposed to be about(They even got a third hour to do the show from USA). Of course it was cancelled.

Chris Benoit...
QUOTE(fathom @ Jun 26, 2007 -> 08:55 PM) It will be interesting to see if all of these baseball juicers from the last decade start dropping dead in their 40s due to enlarged hearts, etc. Most early deaths in the wrestling business are caused by wrestlers taking painkillers and/or other illegal druges, not steroids. This going along with the extreme amount of contact they go through day in and day out is not a good combo. WWE has had a steroid testing program on its main roster and developmental rosters for a few years now, and I can only recall there being one person caught in this time frame.

So the wrestling industry is going to take an absolute and undeserved beating in the oncoming media onslaught. Not going to be fun.

QUOTE(Kalapse @ Jun 26, 2007 -> 05:12 AM) Maybe severe depression brought on by steroid use? It has been known to happen. WWE does test for steroids. I'm no familar with the extent of these tests, so I guess it could be a possibility. I just wanted to go back to a quote from a fellow wrestler of his posted even before anyone knew it was a murder/suicide. "He never complained about sh-- (in his personal life), but lately it always looked like something wasn't setting right with him inside, like something was eating at him." Whole thing just seems odd.

QUOTE(Tony82087 @ Jun 26, 2007 -> 04:51 AM) Watching ESPNEWS, the Sox highlights came on, and the anchor was talking about how bad the Sox offense was, but how "this kid Andy Gonzalez" could be the answer for the Sox.

Chris Benoit...
WWE.com acknowledging it too: It has been ruled that the deaths of Chris Benoit, his wife Nancy and their son Daniel earlier today were the result of a double murder-suicide from within the home. WWE.com will have more as soon as it becomes available.

No one is trying to be overly critical like GPratt said, but this is a special, I want to see some of the best of Benoits matches We still got 5 more hours of this with ECW and SD!. I'm sure there will be plenty of good ones.

Chris Benoit...
QUOTE(Gregory Pratt @ Jun 26, 2007 -> 01:48 AM) Come on WWE, air better Benoit matches. There's so much greatness to be shown. Last week's show just doesn't belong there. Well, it was his last match and everything...

Chris Benoit...
Wrestling's extended royal family is cursed. First Brian Pillman, then Owen Hart, then the British Bulldog, and now Chris Benoit. Terrible. Also: "WWE cancelled the scheduled live Raw show scheduled for June 25, and will be airing a non-live tribute to Benoit in its place." More: Vince McMahon broke the news to the wrestlers backstage about the death of Chris Benoit and his family. One wrestler who was present tells PWTorch that everyone was gathered for an urgent, impromptu gathering backstage. McMahon then explained the basics - that Chris Benoit and his wife and won were found dead. He didn't elaborate or provide any details, and may not have known any more himself. "I've never seen a locker room floored like that. Seventy percent of everyone was just floored like I've never seen before. Everyone is just sad. He was well-liked by everyone. No one ever had a bad word for him. He and Bobby Eaton, that's what people say about those two." He added: "He never complained about sh-- (in his personal life), but lately it always looked like something wasn't setting right with him inside, like something was eating at him." There are no police reports yet confirming the backstage info circulating that they all did of gunshot wounds.

WWE has flat out said that he is dead. Not missing, but dead. They avoided that with the McMahon angle, only that it was presumed. This is real. And extremly, extremly odd. He went home to attend to personal family issues last night, only to be killed? I'm mystified.

Mets Interested in Buehrle?
QUOTE(Kalapse @ Jun 25, 2007 -> 08:22 PM) I've said it before and what the hell, I'll say it again. I would not trade Mark Buehrle straight up for Robinson Cano. His loss of power and OBP hovering around .300 would fit right in.

Is Jenks on the block?
QUOTE(Greg The Bull Luzinski @ Jun 25, 2007 -> 06:47 PM) Yes. If we trade Cintron, who will be our pinch hitter? You use the term "pinch hitter" like he is actually capable of hitting.

Predictions
QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Jun 25, 2007 -> 05:47 PM) THOME (Yep, I think he's going to agree to be moved to a contender, but the club may have to take less in return because he has full veto power). Do you think a team will take a chance on him as a full time first baseman down the stretch when he hasn't really played there for two years now? If not, that narrows our options to about 2-4 teams, if that.
