  1. QUOTE(fathom @ Jun 6, 2006 -> 08:13 PM) That was too predictable. Thome's really sucked in those types of situations. then why did we acquire him?
  2. Come on Jim... not liking Pauly's chances...
  3. QUOTE(fathom @ Jun 6, 2006 -> 08:01 PM) Ok....if the Sox score 2 runs this inning, I won't post for the rest of this series. I'll miss you
  4. QUOTE(That funky motion @ Jun 6, 2006 -> 07:56 PM) Nice balls McCarthy! I'm not happy... that's bad fundamental play. Our fundamentals have gone for s***.
  5. Could there be more plaguing McCarthy than his "role" ?
  6. it's going to be a long season if we keep playing like this
  7. Anderson, minors, now. He's taking it into the field now, too.
  8. Konerko sure has been Mr. Clutch hit lately.
  9. I thought i couldn't imagine a worse batter than Royce Clayton.
  10. can we DH for Brian? I bet our pitchers would fare better.
  11. QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Jun 6, 2006 -> 03:08 PM) Just what we need to do...weaken our bullpen even more. I see your point, and you're right...but it doesn't work without us finding another RH reliever somewhere. Personally I'd still prefer to see Brandon in the starting 5 next year though. I don't mind the thought of trading Brandon, but if we do trade him, then we should really think about trying to get relief pitching for him.
  12. Repeat after me: "Upgrade the 'pen! Upgrade the 'pen! Upgrade the 'pen! Upgrade the 'pen! Upgrade the 'pen!"
  13. QUOTE(Heads22 @ Jun 5, 2006 -> 12:37 PM) How many of these games during our little slump have we actually held the lead during the early innings? We held a lead in each of the Cleveland games, didn't we? We also held a lead in each of the Texas games.
  14. QUOTE(South Side Fireworks Man @ Jun 4, 2006 -> 05:10 PM) The absence of Rowand/Everett may not have as much to do with the win/loss record, but my main point is that it has very much to do with the style of play and the intensity. One example is last year, the Sox were always scratching for runs. If Pods got on base, the main focus was get him over, then get him in. This year, especially when Thome is hot, it seems the Sox are reluctant to give up an out move the runner and leave first base open for Thome for fear the opponent may just walk Thome. That's just one example. This is exactly my point. However, I do agree with the notion that was stated elsewhere that none of this would be an issue if our pitching staff, particularly the bullpen, was near its performance from last season.
  15. QUOTE(rangercal @ Jun 4, 2006 -> 02:14 PM) I blame the lack of Thome I'm starting to wonder if it is partly Thome's fault, even indirectly for a few reasons. First, it meant the loss of Rowand who was pretty fiery, in addition to being a centerfielder who could hit and play defense properly. Second, while our offense has certainly stepped up a notch as a result, I wonder if this hasn't affected the mindset of the team. Like others have said, we're not the hungry, scrappy team we were last year and it seems like we're willing to make some mistakes in the field and pitching because the team seems to think they can score the runs to make it up.
  16. QUOTE(BigSqwert @ Jun 4, 2006 -> 01:41 PM) Anyone else a bit worried to see Freddy pitch the opener against Detroit? I'm more worried about our defense and bullpen taking the field against them
  17. QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Jun 4, 2006 -> 01:37 PM) what was that, a 6, 7 pitch inning? That many?
  18. QUOTE(Ndgt10 @ Jun 4, 2006 -> 01:32 PM) Atleast the tigers are losing so we hopefully won't fall back a game. At the cost of the Red Sox and Yankees closing in on the wild card spot. We need to start winning some games. We look like a dogs*** baseball team right now.
  19. QUOTE(jphat007 @ Jun 4, 2006 -> 01:23 PM) DJ has been doing a lot more play by play recently it seems. and doing pretty well at it, too
