Crede subbing for Cintron

QUOTE(The Critic @ Apr 24, 2006 -> 02:30 PM) Anything the Sox get out of Hermanson at all this year will be a bonus. Exactly right.
-
If things keep up, Cooper will have his 3rd All-Star game starting pitcher in 4 years. That's just an incredible run. Oh yeah, and Contreras is one helluva pitcher, too.

QUOTE(Queen Prawn @ Apr 24, 2006 -> 11:49 AM) My co-workers and I were just discussing this topic. Here's hoping they have been excised (sp?)! Demons are exorcised... which has nothing to do with this guy:

The Tribe drops one to the Royals, 5-1.

QUOTE(Felix @ Apr 23, 2006 -> 07:01 AM) The 2 games I went to last year they won. We'll see if I have the same luck in the 5 or so that I'll be seeing this year Same here, but both were pretty spectacular. The first was the game against the Angels where they announced Guillen's extension. Timo ended up hitting a walk-off single in the bottom of the 9th to win it. The other game I got to, I believe they had just lost 7 in a row and were facing the Yankees and Randy Johnson. My dad and I had seats pretty much right by the pinwheels in the upper-deck (so we were basically in the furthest corner in right field). I think it was Konerko that hit a 3-run bomb off of Johnson and my dad got mad that he missed a picture of the fireworks. Then someone else hit one that same inning and he missed the shot again. Then I believe either Widger or Crede hit one and he finally got a shot of them. There was a fourth HR that inning too. What a great game!

QUOTE(Palehosefan @ Apr 20, 2006 -> 09:19 PM) would also argue that a big talent could stand out at a smaller school and get just as much hype, if not more, as he wouldn't have other top prospects all over the field in practice with him while he's producing on the field. I'll give you some empirical evidence against this argument: Jay Cutler. This guy probably has just as much talent as Matt Leinhart, if not more, and yet I don't think he's getting much more hype than Leinhart. Perhaps, that's restricted to QB's since they are often judged by the performance of their teams, but I don't think it's an isolated incident.

The smartest thing the Cubs could do would be to make a trade with the Royals for Meinkeiwetklsdfictz.
-
I don't see why we should treat Anderson any differently than we treated Crede.
-
Maybe we should trade for Carl Everett and play him in CF.

QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Apr 19, 2006 -> 05:38 PM) No way? This team is better then the team last year that won 99, I don't think you can say that there is no chance of them winning 100. The variable is the divisional opponents which seem to have improved somewhat. That said, I think we can handle the Tigers and Royals for certain and it will depend on how the Sox perform against the Twins and Indians.

QUOTE(aboz56 @ Apr 19, 2006 -> 06:45 PM) And conveiniently, as a Tigers fan, he included Justin Verlander. What a fraud Silver is. But Justin Verlander is the next Kerry Wood! Talk about a backhanded compliment...

I saw that list, too. The only conclusion I can make is that if this PECOTA stat picks nobody from the past year's champion that indicates that either it's a horrendous statistic, our manager is awesome, or it does not account for how players can actually contribute to winning baseball games.

QUOTE(robinventura23 @ Apr 19, 2006 -> 03:48 PM) I love my Sig. JAVY f***ing Doug MIsdehefioudfhuisdoafhicz had to break up the No-No. BTW, Sox pitchers gave up 1 ER in 27 innings this series. Going to be a showdown on Friday. Ideally we'll have a pleasant weekend beatdown.

Any chance Baltimore can beat the Indians tonight? Or are we going to have to settle the division battle the old fashioned way?
-
QUOTE(Jordan4life_2006 @ Apr 19, 2006 -> 03:24 PM) We're all of one game off of last year's pace. And we're 1 game behind the super-ultra-mega-hott/totally-completely-unbeatable Mets.

Alright, this stuff makes me unhappy: Rumor Central Unfortunately I don't have Insider, but even seeing Buehrle on that list really pisses me off!

QUOTE(Felix @ Apr 19, 2006 -> 11:28 AM) (by bullpen, I meant rotation ) Oh, right, I got that. I'm just saying that McCarthy's been pretty awesome coming out of the pen this year and I'm afraid if we move him into the rotation that we're going to lose quite a bit.
-
QUOTE(Felix @ Apr 19, 2006 -> 11:11 AM) Brandon McCarthy? I'm assuming that any starter would be dealt for bullpen help, so BMac could be moved into the bullpen without a problem. The problem with that is then our bullpen becomes more questionable. Right now, McCarthy is doing great in filling Hermanson's shoes as the "glue-guy" in the bullpen. We lose a lot when McCarthy goes to the rotation.

QUOTE(WCSox @ Apr 19, 2006 -> 09:55 AM) The East Coast media is really sucking them off right now. Quite a few of them predicted that they'd go to the WS. I give the Mets props for their great start, but I don't trust a rotation whose only decent pitchers are a past-his-prime Pedro and an aging Glavine. Doesn't Glavine turn 40 this year? Yikes! Agreed. Victor Zambrano, Bannister, and Traschel are not what I like to term "good" as bottom three guys for a serious contender. That said, the Mets probably have a 1/4 chance of making the World Series based entirely on how terrible the NL is this year. St. Louis dropped off a lot from last year and I think losing Clemens will affect the Astros down the stretch. Looking at it objectively, the most talented NL team might actually be a healthy Cubs team. That said, I'm sure Dusty could find a way to ruin it and without Wood and Prior, I don't think that rotation is good enough to win the World Series, even if they make it. Hell, even the Brewers with an overall s***ty rotation has as good a chance as any to make the playoffs. I think the 4 best teams in baseball are all from the AL: White Sox, Cleveland, Red Sox, and Toronto. Those are all the teams with "all the pieces in place" (i.e. good line-ups, good rotations, stocked bullpens). I just can't see any of the NL teams beating one of those squads in a 7 game series, unless there's a lot of luck involved and the AL team limps into the series.

QUOTE(GreatScott82 @ Apr 19, 2006 -> 09:19 AM) Oakland's south paw Barry Zito just may be traded by the A's very soon. According to ESPN, with Zito off to a poor start and with Oaklands stacked farm system. Beane just may trade him. Beane is likely looking for a top outfield propect, a top pitching prospect and an infield prospect in a pacakage. Many teams are interested in Zito. With exception of our Sox, Zito fits in to almost any team out there. Teams that just may go out of there way to aqcuire Zito are the Tigers, Indians and Cubs. I'd be glad if the Tigers or Indians got him. He's basically been living off his Cy Young season and he'll cost them an arm and a leg for not that great of production. For all the hype he gets as a great young pitcher, I definitely think Buehrle is better.

QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Apr 19, 2006 -> 09:15 AM) 5 years $50 million? Mark would laugh at that contract, and justifiably so. When all is said and done, Mark Buehrle is looking at a deal in the $15 million/yr range, not $10mil. Chicago might be able to get him in the $13-14 range just for a home town discount, but if he hits the FA market, he is looking at 5/75, and maybe a 6-7 year deal. s*** an injury prone Burnett just got 5-55, Mark is looking at much more being a lefty and never missing any starts. After seeing what Contreras signed to, I would not be very surprised at all for a 5 year/50. These guys love being here.

I think the most insulting thing you can possibly say is, "Man, I hope your team wins the world series sometime".

QUOTE(DABearSoX @ Apr 19, 2006 -> 03:27 AM) The whole crosstown rivalry feel is lost for me. After last October it really gets to me when I see a Sox fan still arguing with a scrubs fan. Yea I had the CORK shirt and all that garbage but that was then and this is now. I still get s*** from them but I look the other way. Its not worth it anymore..... Why should we waste a breath on thier team....worry about us. So basically what I am trying to say is Sox fans unite and be the bigger men/women. They have nothing better to do then say we suck and all that trash. Its not even worth it anymore to say anything back...... Sorry if its a wastful thread, but I witnessed a Sox/Cubs brawl tonight (this is in CO mind you) and I finally had to go up to the Sox fan and tell him "Dude, your only playing to the sterotype that they love to rip on, just stay humble and know whatever one of them says to you does not put a ring on their teams finger." There are few Cubs fans that understand this too, my brother a diehard northsider (no idea why) has taken this road. After we won it all he won't argue with me anymore....it acctually has brought better baseball conversation between us. So please, act like the dedicated fans we are, there is no reason to get your pantys in a bunch over s*** like this anymore... Thank you Thank you Thank you Thank you Thank you Thank you Thank you Thank you.

I don't think the Mets are any better than the Astros or dare I say... the Cubs. Hot start, sure, but it's a long season.
