  1. Here's an idea: why don't we go with a 6-man rotation? That'll allow the starters to go deeper into games (7-8 inning outings on average) and will save some wear on the bullpen. I wouldn't put it past Ozzie to try it if we still have the six starters on Opening Day.
  2. I had the impression that at the time of the trade that Elton Brand really, really wanted to get out of Chicago. I'm glad that he's having success now. It certainly would be nice to have a post player like Brand on this team right now, but when Chandler is healthy, he is pretty good at filling a role as an energy/hustle type player.
  3. QUOTE(Steff @ Dec 15, 2005 -> 09:57 AM) I'm easily Sid's biggest fan.. and I say pass. It's not a good time for him now. I don't think he has the desire to pull it back together in time to play again in '06. Didn't Sid have to serve a 5 day jail sentence or something along these lines?
  4. Another interesting point: if we take 6 to Spring Training and even into the season, perhaps it is possible that we get more value from a Trade during the season than we would during the off-season. Consider the prices that Jason Schmidt and Burnett were commanding prior to the trading dead-line. There's no doubt starting pitching is at a premium in MLB and the White Sox are sitting on a very healthy bounty of it. Just this morning, I received a message from on of my old college buddies that is from Philly and he congratulated me on the trade saying that we now have 6 guys better than the best guy in the Phillies rotation, and we wasn't even sure who that was. Taking 6 pitchers into the season may allow us to get much higher value than trying to trade one of them now. Additionally, it gives us some lee-way in case of an injury. With 6 starters, Ken Williams is dealing from a position of power when it comes to trades, and that's a damn good thing.
  5. QUOTE(VAfan @ Dec 15, 2005 -> 09:18 AM) Just remember that had we had Javier Vasquez this year instead of either Jose Contreras or Jon Garland, we not only wouldn't have won the World Series, we wouldn't have made the playoffs. Check it out. There's no reason to believe Vasquez would have pitched better in the AL facing DH's instead of pitchers. And given the Sox' difficulty scoring runs, there is no reason to believe he would have done better than 11-15. Compared to Garland's 18-10 or even Contreras's 13-9, that's enough of a swing that Cleveland wins the division and we sit home. Vasquez had a fine first half when he was in New York in the AL. I have no idea what would have happened last year, but this is a move that really helps us out for next year and beyond. Cooper is going to have a lot of fun with this guy and could realistically make him an All-Star. This is a very, very good move for the White Sox.
  6. This guy's basically a Garcia clone that strikes out guys more often.
  7. So what we're getting is a 200+ IP guy who can get some strike-outs. Sounds like just the kind of guy that Ozzie likes.
  8. What can we learn about his pitches? What types does he use and which is his best? What is his strike-out pitch? from espn:
  9. QUOTE(White Sox Josh @ Dec 14, 2005 -> 01:47 PM) no he is not however just look at the rotation for a second. SP1: Mark Buehrle SP2: Jose Contreras SP3: Jon Garland SP4: Freddy Garcia SP5: Javier Vazquez Everyone of those pitchers can win 15 or more games. and so can pitcher #6, he just hasn't done it yet like the other 5.
  10. So is our rotation now the Killer J's? Javier Jon Jose
  11. QUOTE(wherehaveyougoneharold @ Dec 14, 2005 -> 01:01 PM) Is this the guy that was with the Yankees? If not, has anyone seen him pitch in the cold? Same guy. I think he dominated us when we played him last season.
  12. If we sign a two relief pitchers, we'll win it all in 2006. This was a great, great move. Barring injury, this leaves nothing to chance in our rotation. Our questions going into 2006 were "can El Duque stay healthy" and "is BMac ready to be a fulltime MLB starter". Now those aren't even questions.
  13. I have this feeling like that TD drive might have been a bad thing. My thinking is that Lovie wanted to cut/bench Bobby Wade right before the first game against Detroit. However, Wade got a punt return for a TD that game and Lovie has stuck with him since. I wonder if this drive might buy Orton another start.
  14. QUOTE(fathom @ Dec 11, 2005 -> 02:05 PM) Maybe it's just me, but I think today's thrashing might be a nice little wake-up call for the Bears. Grossman? Please? This is a playoff preview of why we can't play Orton. How is Orton any different from Krenzel?
  15. QUOTE(AnthraxFan93 @ Dec 11, 2005 -> 01:16 PM) Orton is a rookie, and he is playing great for a Rookie..Blame the QB its easy to do, Look at Turner numbers before they are right where they are at now.. He is not a NFL OC, i have no idea how he gets a job. You're so right. Being saddled with an atrocious rookie QB is completely independent of any of the stats Turner should be putting up.
  16. QUOTE(AnthraxFan93 @ Dec 11, 2005 -> 01:13 PM) If you call and offense and can't get into the endzone on 1st and goal in 2 straight games.. You need to be fired, yo have no idea how to run and NFL offense... TUrner is the problem.. You could have Peyton on this team and he would look like Cade McClown with this pee-wee offense. Remember the open tight-end Orton overthrew by like 2 yards?
  17. How does the gunner get shoved every time in the back and they NEVER call it? I need to not watch this game any more... too frustrating.
  18. Somebody got new underpants for Orton? He's pooping himself.
  19. I just played "I need a hero"... let's quit messing around and play Grossman.
  20. The bullpen is my biggest concern at the moment. We've lost Marte who while inconsistent did get the job done from time to time. Nobody seems to know anything about Hermanson's health. We really need to get another reliever in the fold. That said, maybe the revamped line-up will account for the drop-off in the pen.
  21. QUOTE(Greg The Bull Luzinski @ Dec 9, 2005 -> 03:06 PM) Toronto can spend all the money they want, but unless the two evil empires fall into a sink hole, the Blue Jays will still finish third. I have no idea why anybody would think Boston is going to be any good this coming season. They've got a ton of holes on that team. I actually think the Jays have a great chance to win the east this year. What if they pick up Frank Thomas as a DH?
  22. QUOTE(RockRaines @ Dec 6, 2005 -> 09:49 AM) If for a moment you think that Brady Quinn could break one of OSU's LB's tackles you have another thing coming. I realize that OSU has Ray Lewis, Brian Urlacher, and Jon Vilma at linebacker this year, but Quinn is a strong kid that can break a lot of arm tackles, even from hefty defensive linemen. Yes, if he gets hit head on by AJ Hawk, he's going down, but Brady is more mobile than you think. Consider this: against USC when we need a third down back the most, who did Weis effectively use as a third down back?
  23. QUOTE(trev76 @ Dec 5, 2005 -> 06:43 PM) when ever ohio state blitzes you'll see what ND is so good at short passes to their 6'5 recievers and they break so many tackles... and have u ever seen a nd game? Brady Quinn breaks more tackles then any quarterback i think Yup. That said, I think this year's Fiesta Bowl has a very strong chance at being a preview to next year's Fiesta Bowl.
