I was one of the "negative people" because I was worried about a 1-4 start and losing four games to division rivals. I'm sorry, but I think that I am justified in my concern, particularly since we lost 3 of those games when one of our former strengths failed us: the bullpen. While I am certainly glad that we've performed so well the last two games, I still think that concern is justified and that it is cleaer that the bullpen is not something we can rely as heavily on this season as last. Trust me, I'm a fan... but I wouldn't be a Sox fan if I wasn't worried!

Hey guys, I passed! Time to hit the bar and watch the game and have a drink. Catch you later!

Nobody's stepped up and made this thread! I figured it was appropriate since today I do my defense for my Master's Thesis. Wish me luck!

QUOTE(SoxAce @ Apr 9, 2006 -> 07:50 PM) I'll post by paragraph from ya Addy. I believe the Indians do have enough. No they are not the same, but baseball is a funny game and you, or I never know. They can get it done though. They are not "projected" like you said, but that doesn't mean the "projected" will turn into reality. Scotty will be HUGE, I do agree, but I believe the bullpen will also be the key. We can get steller performances like Javy gave us yesterday, and just blow it not just for him, but for the team in the loss column. I also believe BA will be a factor. Can be consistant on defense, and can he put up solid numbers like Rowand did during his career with us? We'll see. I'm not gonna take anything away from Pauly though. But that's why KW went and got Thome. If one guy can't get it done (Kong) then we got others to back him up (Thome, Dye, AJ, Crede) Our bench is also key, but we REALLY need the pitching and the defense. We aren't gonna out-slug everybody. I agree with you. We've gotten enough offense as it is without a healthy Pods, but the bullpen has just killed us.

It'd be hot if we could sweep the Tigers. It'd be a nice way to say "sit-down, b****!"

Today we looked like the team that won the world series last year.

QUOTE(Gregory Pratt @ Apr 9, 2006 -> 10:38 AM) Remember on Opening Night, at the beginning, when the Sox were getting the banners unfolded and were introduced -- remember the Organist version of Don't Stop Believing that was so beautiful? Anyone know where I can get the audio of it? Anyone got it, by any chance? This is not what you requested, but you might also enjoy it: Linky

QUOTE(hammerhead johnson @ Apr 8, 2006 -> 01:04 PM) Ummm, we have the best rotation in the majors outside of Oakland. You're talking about us not even having the best rotation in our own division? Come on. Love the avatar, hate the terrible baseball thoughts. In theory and on paper we might have the best rotation outside of Oakland, but they certainly have not played that way thus far.

QUOTE(WCSox @ Apr 8, 2006 -> 03:23 PM) Then again, it's going to take another month or so before anybody can accurately evaluate this team. No need for another month. Be proactive and use your imagination. I imagine that if we don't do anything, we're going to lose a lot of games like we did today. We need at least 1 more reliable bullpen arm, at a minimum, to be successful. I don't think we can count on Hermanson for that.

QUOTE(bogie @ Apr 8, 2006 -> 03:15 PM) This needs to be fixed now -but how?????? Since he isn't starting, perhaps we could actually utilize McCarthy?

QUOTE(Whitewashed in '05 @ Apr 8, 2006 -> 03:14 PM) While I agree, Garland and Garcia haven't given this team a damn chance so far. I know they will improve and our bullpen probably won't, but you can't blame our s*** start so far on the bullpen. Cliffe Politte gave up a 2 run homer when we lead by 1. We lost a game to the Indians because we gave up a lead. Sounds like the bullpen has had a part in our s*** start.

Sox vs. Kansas City, 4/08/06, Vazquez vs. Bautista
Wedge replied to iWiN4PreP's topic in 2006 Season in Review
I hope we get swept by the Royals. -
I don't care about the record at this point. I am concerned that Garland looked like the old "Judy" Garland: pitch well until something goes wrong and then implode. I am concerned that Garcia has lost velocity and am worried that he will not return to form. I am concerned that our bullpen is thin already and that if either of those two starters continue continue along their current trend, we'll have to use McCarthy as a starter and have minimal bullpen. I am concerned that Cotts and Politte will become human again. I am concerned that Hermanson might never pitch effectively this season. I am concerned that we are really going to miss Rowand and we will see atrocious outfield defense all season. I am very concerned that our chemistry sucks. Right now we are a team that is less than the sum of its parts. Through the first four games, the Sox have looked like a team that didn't realize the season started on April 2. They've played poorly and some of our worst fears have been realized within the first week of the season. I'm optimistic the team will develop and we'll be ok as the season progressses, but right now I'm pretty worried that we look like the same-old Sox, not the 2005 champions.

QUOTE(GoTribe @ Apr 8, 2006 -> 09:23 AM) A lot of your fans just need to relax. The Royals aren't a horrible team by any stretch of the imagination, you were going to lose to them sometime this year. The Royals are a horrible team and have horrible pitching. If we can't hold down a 6 run lead against them, who can we count on holding one down on? The fans are justified to be concerned. A championship team, which this is supposed to be, does not lose to the cellar dwellers of the division after getting a 6 run lead and they also don't play t-ball defense in the outfield. The fans that are concerned are justified, particularly if they are concerned with our defense. Basically, Vazquez can't possibly pitch any worse than Garland or Garcia. I mean, he can... but we need him to get us some wins. No. Again, not so much. -
QUOTE(RME JICO @ Apr 8, 2006 -> 08:54 AM) Yes, they can easily win it. They have the best starting rotation 1-6 and the offense will be better than last year. I have yet to see anything that indicates we'll have the best rotation in the division. We might still, but things do not look good.

Sox v. Kansas City, 4/7/06, Garland v. Affeldt
Wedge replied to Gregory Pratt's topic in 2006 Season in Review
Hawk is right, some major changes have to be made... fast! We look like garbage. The outfield plays defense worse than most t-ball teams, so that'd be a really good place to start. -
