I just hope this doesn't become the Bloody/Katsupy Sock Circus Part II.
-
Per ESPN:
-
By the way, can Hermanson come in at all? He's basically had a 15 Day DL stint, I would hope he could go an inning or two this series if we need him.
-
Jenks is a talent and for some reason, he's so easy to like: 100 MPH fastball, has the haunted past storyline, looks like a gentle giant out there. That said, we have the wonderful problem we had at the beginning of the year: we have 4 guys that can come into the game as closers (we traded Shingo for Jenks) and 5 if you count the Duke. Gosh, I don't even think anybody remembers the great job Politte did last night!

I'm not sure which is better in terms of your stature/legacy: to win a championship and then retire or to win and then fade away. Consider Phil Jackson vs. Ditka. Ditka won a single SuperBowl and in reality should have one at least more considering the talent on his team. Jackson won 6 NBA titles with the Bulls. It isn't too far-fetched to say that even with the talent on the Bulls, that they would not have won all 6 without Jackson (just consider how he turned former bad boy Dennis Rodman into a key contributor, despite some severe animosity between him and MJ/Pippen). Both coached again in other cities, Jackson was more successful, winning two more championships. That said, in Chicago, Ditka leaves Jackson far in his shadown in terms of popularity. I have no idea where Ozzie would be placed in the Panthenon, whether he wins the ..., loses, retires after this season, or manages for another 10 years.

If we win... it... I gotta think that KW will sell Ozzie on winning back to back championships. I think in the end, Ozzie's loyalty to Reinsdorf and the organization will lead him to come back next season.
-
I'd be sad if Ozzie didn't come back. I don't know that we could replace him. Sweet Lou might be about the only guy crazy enough to take over for Ozzie.

QUOTE(Texsox @ Oct 24, 2005 -> 06:04 AM) So you would agree that as long as USC is winning, they are #1? That was the point. They are suppose to be voting based on this season, not on the previous 2. But most people, including the voters, seem to favor take the #1 spot only if they get beat. I agree that USC should remain #1 until they lose. Both UT and USC have a stellar player (Young vs. Bush) and have a pretty stellar cast overall on offense. UT hasn't done anything much more impressive than USC and USC has been doing it longer. Roughly the same cast for USC has done very well against top notch NCAA teams (consider OU last year) and thus, it deserves to retain the ranking. My real point is that a debate between USC and UT for #1 and #2 is pointless since that's going to end up getting answered on the field. If it does not, that means one of those teams has lost and will be unworthy of either a #1 or #2 ranking going into the Championship game and a worthy adversary will be picked amongst VTech, Alabama, and the other host of 1 loss teams, depending on how the remainder of the season plays out exactly. If UT and USC play each other, I honestly have no idea who would win. I think USC would win 11 out of 20 games against UT in a championship game setting. I might change that to 13/20 given the Mack Brown factor. -
I don't know if it happened or not, but Dye should have gotten an earful after that play. The extra base given up basically lead to the tying run scoring.

I think Joe Buck has a serious problem with the Sox. I heard that once a Sox fan ripped him after a game in the parking lot saying he "wouldn't have a career if not for [his] dad".

QUOTE(Texsox @ Oct 24, 2005 -> 07:30 AM) I'e watched Clemens in about a dozen starts, including one in person. From the tape I saw, this was not the usual Clemens on the mound. The guy never ducks, I doubt he is playing a thatrical game. It has never been his style before. My initial fear is that Clemens, the Astros, and the media would make this into a "bloody sock" type of thing (the blood was katsup, by the way). Even if it is, I don't think Roger will be able to capture Schilling's magic.

QUOTE(Jordan4life_2005 @ Oct 24, 2005 -> 06:26 AM) Lets go for the throat. Tuesday is in essence the season for the Astros. I hope the guys come out like starving sharks in game 3. And what's with all this Oswalt talk anyway? Yeah, I know he's good. But Garland ain't chopped liver, either. He didn't win 18 games, make the all-star team, and throw a 4 hit, complete game against a very good Angels team on the road by accident. I agree that if anyone can win Game 3, it's Jon Garland, especially since I'm sure he'll be pretty loose. That said, Oswalt is the best pitcher we'll face the entire postseason. Hopefully, it's only once.
-
This will be our toughest game, perhaps of the season. We definitely face their best pitcher and at home where they're the best. We lose the DH. If we get to Oswalt early, we can win. If we get him out in the 6th and aren't trailing too badly, we can win. Otherwise, this is going to be a very, very tough game. The Sox have it in them, but it will definitely be the hardest win of the entire season.
-
Either way, a coverup of the Clemens situation makes some sense. If he's hurting bad and can't possibly pitch anymore this series, then hiding his status might help his players believe there's hope in Game 5, rather than throwing W-Rod out there. If he's healthy enough to pitch, hiding his status might be used to lure the Sox into a let down for that game. Also, if he's healthy enough to pitch, he could be used as a secret weapon replacement for Lidge, if the need be.

Who cares about #1 and #2... if Texas and USC stay undefeated, they will rightly play each other for the National Championship and the Champion will be determined the correct way... on the field. -
QUOTE(LosMediasBlancas @ Oct 23, 2005 -> 11:38 PM) Funny. I hat to say this, but I have hard time hating the Astros. They play with a lot of fight, very similar to the Sox. I respect the Astros very much. They're the only team I feel slight remorse about beating in the play-offs. They have a lot of heart and they have been about as star-crossed as the Sox. That said, I hope the Sox beat the hell out of them in Houston.

I have no idea what Ozzie is going to do in a save situation. I could see him using Cotts just as easily as showing faith in his closer, actually.
-
Sportscenter the first time through was like 60% about the World Series game tonight. I sort of even got sick of it since I wanted some news on the college games.

Just remember the Family Guy quote about Don't Stop Believin': "Oh, God. I love this song. And I love it when amateurs sing the lyrics. But I hate baseball cards." I love that song!

Rocket hasn't looked right in a while...

I think that one of the biggest reasons STL got swept last year was because they could not properly order their rotation for the WS, while BOS was lucky, since the order it pitched in the ALCS was exactly the one they wanted for the WS. I've heard Steve Stone and I've heard Bob Brenly say that it is a huge advantage to be able to set your rotation.
-
It's great to see the media get this one right and give the award to the right guy. I couldn't be prouder of you, Ozzie!

QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Oct 17, 2005 -> 02:49 PM) Still...it'd sure be a good idea to get him locked up this offseason so that he doesn't even hav ehte chance of listening to the Yankees next offseason. I mean...where would we be right now if we hadn't re-upped with Ozzie? Half the league might be waiting for this sereis to end so that they could get on the phone. Our coaches are all loyal to the organization. They don't need the money. When Ozzie was extended, KW actually offered him more than he was asking for. These coaches are here because they love the White Sox organization that gave them a chance. I think this loyalty trickles to the players and I wouldn't be surprised to see Konerko resign for a bit less than market value ($11-12 million range).

QUOTE(Steff @ Oct 17, 2005 -> 12:23 PM) Yea.. if that's what you mean Addy is right. The US Cell $$ can not be used for anything but the park. That's what I was asking. Thanks to you and Addy for the answer.
