Yeah, I thought Paxon was on the second set of championship teams. That was early on in my sports life!
-
QUOTE(knightni @ Oct 6, 2005 -> 11:35 AM) Um, no.. sorry. Paxson was Jordan's valet on the Bulls when Brooks played at ND. oh wow, I thought Paxon played at ND in the early 90s, not the early 80s.
-
Additionally, consider our bullpen vs. the Yankees' last year and the quality of our starters against theirs. It'd be nice for Freddie to take care of them tomorrow.
-
Victory Lap EDIT: I just realized that Brooks probably played with Paxson when they were both at ND.

I love Ozzie. I don't understand why there's all this hate on this board for him.
-
Seems like maybe we have a pretty smart manager after all.

QUOTE(iguchi=dank @ Oct 4, 2005 -> 10:29 PM) osuna you gotta be confident right now. Relax, I understand your point about which mark, garcia, and garland will show up, but for ALL of them not to show up... thats just not going to happen right now. Also this question is MUCH more important, which wells, schilling, and wakefield are gonna show up. My guess for tomorrow is the crowd pulls burhle through whatever mess he gets into and we score enough to take it. And if that doesn't happen, i'm still not worried. Good points on their starting pitching. We've done pretty well against Wakefield in the past and Schilling has looked pretty shakey down the stretch. Overall, these are good match-ups for us.

As was said, when you gotta sweep Buehrle, Garcia (on the road during the day) and Garland to avoid facing the Count again, you have to like your chances.

the North looks absolutely horrible. The Bears should finish no worse than 4-2 in the divisional play, but with that defense, they could probably go 6-0. 8-8 will probably win the division.

I really only root for ND (since it's my undergraduate alma mater) in NCAA football, especially now since Weis is our coach. I've admired him in particular and the Patriots in general in terms of their level of organizational methods which have really lead to a golden age for NE in the NFL.

Weis has gotten ND looking damn good

Damn straight we hijacked this thread! I play trumpet. I was actually the band president as a senior and the director let me do it my 5th year. Which dorm? I was in Carroll and now in Fischer Grad. -

QUOTE(Fotop @ Sep 6, 2005 -> 08:00 PM) Funny, but more than likely true. I'm not that big of a fan of the backer...I guess it's more of an alumni/grad school love than an undergrad. I'm sure that once I leave though, I'll be itching for some backer fun. Hate to sound ignorant...but what's CSE? no sweat, Computer Science. I did my undergrad there as well and I was in the band. -

QUOTE(Fotop @ Sep 6, 2005 -> 07:39 PM) I'm there currently, Wedge. This is my fourth and final year. I'm a double major in finance and history. I'm here as well. I'm now a 2nd year grad student in the CSE department. We've probably unwittingly bumped into each other at the Backer or something. -

This is going to be one helluva game. I don't dare predict who will win, but I'm not going to lie, I like the Irish's chances. Fotop, did you go to ND? -

Every Michigan board I've looked at is at best apprehensive about this coming game. It feels good to strike fear in the hearts of man, once again. -

If the Bears' QB can 1) Avoid turnovers 2) Get the ball to Muhammad then we are going to have a good enough offense to make the playoffs. From preseason, Orton appears to be the best at this.
-
"Donkey Punch?"
-
Primarily, we need our quarterback to be able to get the ball to Muhammad. Freaking Jake Delhomme looked like a real NFL QB for two seasons because he was able to do that. Hutch can't do that. Maybe Blake can, but I'm confident that Orton can at least do that. It's low expectations, really. We have to start with Orton.

I'm in, but you have to admit that there's some cosmic irony if Dmitri Young's prediction turns out to be correct.

QUOTE(RockRaines @ Aug 22, 2005 -> 09:39 AM) No offense, but I dont know if I want to deal contreras anymore, the guy has shown that he can put it together and straight out dominate other teams. I would like to give the guy another year. I agree with that point of view. Contreras has been money in August. It just seems that they'd be more inclined to trade Contreras than any of the others. -

Washburn would be the best FA pitcher out there (except for arguably Beckett). I think that we would trade a starter (like Contreras) in a deal for a bat. It makes sense, but only if you stretch it a bit. -
We have all of our starters locked up for next year (Garland will still be ours after arbitration) so I don't see a need to try-out Cotts as a starter, particularly when you consider just how disasterously his past attempts in that role have been. Didn't he start up in Montreal last season? Was he not very ineffective after that start? He's got good confidence in his role right now, so leave him there.

QUOTE(Steff @ Aug 10, 2005 -> 07:15 AM) Is he.. or was the ump just being tight. I Tivo's the game.. and watched that last half inning at least 5 times.. then I woke Jim up, not saying why, and the first thing he said was "hmm.. looks like Marte is getting squeezed a bit there.." That's right, I think I remember two separate strike 3's that were called balls during Giambi's at-bat.
