  1. QUOTE (Lillian @ Dec 15, 2017 -> 10:01 PM) Being able to gauge Machado's values and preferences, regarding for what city and team, he would like to play, would certainly help here. If the suggestion that he really wants to play for the Yankees has any validity, this whole strategy is folly. In the absence of some suggestion that he would be open to playing on the South Side, giving up anyone, who is considered part of the organization's future, for a one year rental, would be foolish. Maybe that's why he's leaking the Yanks info to some people in order to avoid being traded?
  2. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Dec 15, 2017 -> 10:40 PM) Think of what the Sox had to give up for 1 year of Samardzija, and add some more. That is what their package must look like. Yep in reality Sox should be just about the last team to be inquiring
  3. I know you all love my Cubs rumors, but supposedly they are strong contenders for Yu
  4. QUOTE (Jose Abreu @ Dec 15, 2017 -> 10:22 PM) I don't believe a word of the Yankee fanboys "it's his dream to come here, and sources say he'l take a huge discount to do so!" nonsense. I think Hahn gets this deal done, perhaps over the weekend. Hopefully a year here will make him more likely to sign with us. I doubt we'd flip him to a team like New York in July unless it's absolutely certain that he doesn't want to spend his career here. Well it's far more likely his dream would be to play in NY on a super team than love the culture of the WSox
  5. I also have a feeling Angelos will never agree to trade him to the Sox. He's too paranoid Hahn would then trade him. Angelos is so stubborn, he's voided deals for far dumber reasons
  6. QUOTE (shipps @ Dec 15, 2017 -> 10:19 PM) Honestly, think about the market at the deadline for a contending team looking to add a special offensive player to put them over the top. He may be the number one guy depending on how he performs for us, we may be able to net a better return then what we gave up to the orioles. Its possible. But that's also why I suspect the offers now are way better than many suspect on here. Why wouldn't Orioles just hold on to him until the deadline?
  7. If Machado is sending out feelers he only wants to go to Yankees, Hahn better have a plan in mind to how he will offload him back to NY if it's clear he won't want to stay here
  8. Seeing on twitter that Yanks announcer Michael Kay said today that Machado wants to sign with Yankees next offseason
  9. It worries me the Sox have strongest offer. These other teams aren't offering mid-level prospects for him.

  11. QUOTE (bmags @ Dec 15, 2017 -> 09:18 PM) 2y 8 mill for astros. Not a bad deal. Unless he's terrible again. Was just coming to post that would have been a nice deal for the Sox. Oh is my bet to be closer
  12. QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Dec 15, 2017 -> 08:09 PM) It also increases the cost of an Abreu extension. Listening to Hahn on the White Sox Talk podcast, it doesn't sound like they are in any rush to extend him
  13. QUOTE (chitownsportsfan @ Dec 15, 2017 -> 07:03 PM) Avi and Anderson. Get it done Hahn. For one year of Manny, that would be awful. Don't forget Orioles want pitching
  14. https://mobile.twitter.com/masnRoch/status/...703697763110912 Makes me think teams are offering MLB players
  15. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Dec 15, 2017 -> 06:03 PM) Does Machado not like the culture in Baltimore? His best friends in baseball are Schoop, Jon Jay, Yonder Alonso and Almora. Let's just sign Jay and Alonso (to be honest, they would both fit roles)
  16. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Dec 15, 2017 -> 05:57 PM) If we think "culture" might matter, then how do we know ours is the culture he might like? I think money will matter and pay him the most and he'll come here, but that means I think culture doesn't matter. For those who think it does...they have to prove that he'll be 110% happy on a losing, kid-loaded team where occasionally the starter gives up 9 runs because he's a rookie or the bullpen rookies blow 6 games in a row. If you believe "The culture thing" will matter, that's the downside risk. People think our culture will somehow be a big selling point, but there's just as much reason to worry. Just pay the guy. And Manny isn't exactly the most jovial of players
  17. QUOTE (soxfan2014 @ Dec 15, 2017 -> 05:45 PM) Well then for all the hopeful people who automatically write him into their 2019 dream lineup, I guess they have no hope either then. Sure if the Sox want to pay top dollar. Stanton to the Yanks was bad for the WSox as it made Machado more likely for them instead of Harper.
  18. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Dec 15, 2017 -> 04:39 PM) NY is a much bigger media market, and the Cubs completely own Chicago right now. This is more of a move you see when the results on the field push the window of competition up by one year...but a Heyward or Machado type doesn’t start the bandwagon, they join one that has already demonstrated a certain amount of success to push them over the top. (The same principle the M’s we’re trying to follow with Cano/Cruz, but they seemingly jumped the gun. In retrospect, their younger core players weren’t ready, and weren’t deep enough...especially with Felix fading.) IMO, it would make more sense if we knew we could rely on Rodon at all. There's not a single reliable pitcher on this roster right now. Could possibly have the most unstable starting/relief group in the majors at this moment. But don't worry, I'm sure Manny will love the culture on a team that blows leads late due to its minor league bullpen
  19. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Dec 15, 2017 -> 05:32 PM) Mets also made the playoffs. The White Sox won't be anywhere near in 2018. Yep they were an exciting team with a lot of exposure and IIRC, the deal he took was worth more over first few years than others offered. Instead of using Cespedes as an example, JUpton is a better one.
  20. Does Manny have any young kids he wants to bring into clubhouse? If so we are screwed
  21. QUOTE (SoxAce @ Dec 15, 2017 -> 05:13 PM) Crazy that Hahn and company are trying to sell him on the culture. It's like arguing a player wants to be in our clubhouse because of the chemistry alone and not the winning. (thank you Don Cooper). If it was a Cuban player, I would say they might be on to something. This just seems insane
  22. QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Dec 15, 2017 -> 05:11 PM) I have no idea how you’ve jumped to that conclusion. This is all about gaining an edge against the all other teams who also plan on leveraging the “outbid everyone” strategy. IMO, the Sox wouldn’t even entertain the idea of acquiring him if they weren’t prepared to go all-in in free agency for him. Or maybe they think he will like it so much here he would give them a discount? At this point, no one has any clue what the real story is. They could trade Eloy and Kopech for him or two A ballers and it wouldn't shock me
  23. QUOTE (Soha @ Dec 15, 2017 -> 04:45 PM) The Cardinals are probably the best case scenario for Sox fans. For starters, it sticks it to the Cubs a bit. But even better, there seems to be a growing trend of players not wanting to sign in St. Louis longterm. That probably increases the chance that he doesn't re-sign during the season....thus keeping alive our true hope of the Sox signing him next winter. Excellent thought
  24. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Dec 15, 2017 -> 04:44 PM) If the White Sox are telling you they need him to check out everything before he hits free agency, and he will fall in love and sign an extension, they are also telling you they aren't going to be the highest offer if he gets to free agency. And he's getting to free agency. Still think it's going to be hard to make him like the culture when the team is a threat to lose 100 games
  25. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Dec 15, 2017 -> 04:31 PM) I'm almost against the concept. I guess you could talk me out of Adams maybe? On the grounds of you could get more than that at the deadline even if he has a rough first half like he had last year, but even someone like that is an expensive risk. But seriously I really dislike this as an idea. You're spending $17 million and giving up players for the imaginary idea that he'll do something other than take the best offer made to him on the FA market next year when he's worked hard to get to the point where he can cash in on the best deal? The entire idea sounds like Malarkey to me. It seems like something a small market team would do and then cry poor when the free agent takes a bigger offer elsewhere
