  1. QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Dec 14, 2017 -> 09:54 PM) Who is going to trade for him with one year of control left? You’re pretty much looking at contenders with 3B/SS needs that can actually afford to offer him a $300M+ contract in the offseason. Add in the “won’t do business with the Yankees rule” and that right there doesn’t leave a ton of teams. Seriously, what teams make sense and actually have the assets to acquire him? Cardinals and Red Sox
  2. QUOTE (chitownsportsfan @ Dec 14, 2017 -> 10:51 PM) interesting. It's some smoke. All it means is he can read tweets on the internet
  3. QUOTE (Sockin @ Dec 14, 2017 -> 10:50 PM) The Cardinals and White Sox are both going after a player who's decision on what team he's going to play for will be decided via an Instagram post. That sounds familiar... Well done
  4. QUOTE (chitownsportsfan @ Dec 14, 2017 -> 10:40 PM) How does it make any sense that the two best offers are Cards and Sox? Those clubs couldn't be further apart in their windows. Because the Sox interest makes zero sense
  5. QUOTE (soxfan2014 @ Dec 14, 2017 -> 10:33 PM) I agree and sort of acknowledged that. But seeing comments the last few days of: "any team that gives up anything of value is crazy" is over the top. If we were a big bat away from being competitive, of course I'd trade a top 100 guys in a package. Cards trading Weaver and O'Neill for him makes sense
  6. QUOTE (maggsmaggs @ Dec 14, 2017 -> 08:56 PM) What do people think that Machado would sign an extension here? He knows literally nothing of this organization beyond perhaps some of its players. It seems extremely unlikely that he would forsake his golden free agency to sign an extension with an organization to which he is brand new. This would be a one-rental player, albeit with a chance to make an impact on him going into his free agency, in a year in which the Sox will still not be contenders. Outside of 1 or 2 posters, no one thinks he will sign
  7. QUOTE (Rowand44 @ Dec 14, 2017 -> 08:49 PM) This will probably sounds nuts to people but I'm not including Kopech in a deal for Machado even if he signed an extension. All the sudden you're losing a lot of your payroll flexibility and you're losing your potential ace. We have some pitching depth in this organization but we don't have Kopech depth. You weaken your future rotation a great deal and you lose a lot of this payroll flexibility you've gained. I'm really not a fan of doing that even for a guy like Manny. Also why Yelich is a better player to target. You might give up more in a package but his contract gives you so much more flexibility going forward
  8. QUOTE (Soxnfins @ Dec 14, 2017 -> 09:54 PM) This is on its way to becoming another ace speeds thread, let’s top it! We have, what, 50 more mobile pages to go? I'm expecting 8 eyeballs from WSD tomorrow night
  9. QUOTE (steveno89 @ Dec 14, 2017 -> 09:52 PM) I'd be pretty surprised if Giolito were included as well. He's mlb ready and seemed to be finding his groove down the stretch last season. I don't see him as a potential #1, but he could develop into a solid #2-3 starter in time. He seems like a disaster waiting to happen pitching for Baltimore
  10. QUOTE (Rowand44 @ Dec 14, 2017 -> 08:49 PM) This will probably sounds nuts to people but I'm not including Kopech in a deal for Machado even if he signed an extension. You weaken your future rotation a great deal and you lose a lot of this payroll flexibility you've gained. I'm really not a fan of doing that even for a guy like Manny. Well said, it's not like you would be getting a guy with an amazing contract like Sale/Q/Archer

QUOTE (Jose Abreu @ Dec 14, 2017 -> 08:26 PM) I love Avi but I'd be shocked to see him land a top 100 guy Agreed which is why I hope the Sox bet on him for next year
  12. QUOTE (chitownsportsfan @ Dec 14, 2017 -> 07:27 PM) Well that doesn't make much sense IMO. Why wouldn't it

QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Dec 14, 2017 -> 07:23 PM) Bichette is a top 35-50 prospect in baseball. No chance Avi has that type of value. Especially with what we have seen Ozuna go for
  14. QUOTE (SoxPride18 @ Dec 14, 2017 -> 08:21 PM) Yeah, I definitely think the O's are pushing this in the media. Don't forget that Rosenthal covered Orioles for a long time
  15. QUOTE (Sockin @ Dec 14, 2017 -> 04:44 PM) Right that's always been the assumption but this kind of confirms it. I do think that once players do get here though they have a good experience for the most part. The Sale and LaRoche stuff obviously made an impact. Yeah the players like it here but the fear is lack of exposure and marketing opportunities
  16. QUOTE (steveno89 @ Dec 14, 2017 -> 04:38 PM) Daryl Van Schouwen‏Verified account @CST_soxvan 23s24 seconds ago More Hahn: "We are not looking to make any sort of move that’s aimed at simply jumping up and perhaps contending for a Wild Card or maybe even the division for one year. The focus remains on the long term. "Now, we may take some calculated risks along the way." Calculated risk -barf
  17. QUOTE (Sockin @ Dec 14, 2017 -> 04:38 PM) The fact that Hahn is trying hard to get an impending FA kind of makes me think they don't think he would sign here without playing here. Makes me a little concerned the org isn't perceived well by players. It's not

  19. QUOTE (soxfan2014 @ Dec 14, 2017 -> 04:31 PM) Minus the idea that you could overpay him and have exclusive negotiations for 7+ months. Why would he sign during that time? Besides yanks, Phillies have an insane amount of money they could offer.
  20. QUOTE (South Side Fireworks Man @ Dec 14, 2017 -> 03:29 PM) Rodon and Anderson for Machado sounds good to me. That would be selling as low as possible on those guys
  21. QUOTE (soxfan2014 @ Dec 14, 2017 -> 03:29 PM) Yeah which I'm fine with but then you have to compete with other teams. And I'm sure plenty would be interested. Same as if he is here for a season with a non-contending club. There are also some rumors that he could be on the Yankees radar next offseason.
  22. QUOTE (soxfan2014 @ Dec 14, 2017 -> 03:26 PM) They have to already know JR would sign off on a huge extension for this to be possible. I'm talking like 10 year/$300-$330 mill with a few opt-outs. But at this point, I would think he would wait until free agency. Then you don't deal for him and wait for free agency
  23. QUOTE (maggsmaggs @ Dec 14, 2017 -> 03:24 PM) If you do the deal and don't re-sign Manny, you've really hindered the rebuild. And depending on who you would lose in the trade, you might have just killed the rebuild. Not worth the risk especially when he seems intent upon reaching free agency where the Sox can woo him and gush about the culture, etc. And say that you trade Giolito and Dunning and Rodon continues to be injury-plagued. You're suddenly lacking starting pitching depth.
  24. QUOTE (nitetrain8601 @ Dec 14, 2017 -> 04:15 PM) Why? If it were 3 top prospects, I can see it. But if they are dangling one top pitching prospect and maybe Avi and/or Tim Anderson, we should be ecstatic. Though he had a down year, Machado is 25 years old and a top 10 player in the game. He's an everyday player. You feel great as long as you don't give up, Kopech + Giolito +. The one thing the White Sox have been able to do right over the past 15 years is draft and develop pitching. Everyday players is where they have struggled in recent history. As long as you're not giving up Moncada, Robert, and those likes, it's a pretty easy deal to make. I just don't get what the positives for getting Manny for a season is. You run the risk of really hurting the talent level on the team in two seasons if you don't extend him while giving up a few starting pitchers
