  1. QUOTE (IowaSoxFan @ Jan 21, 2016 -> 06:06 PM) I wonder if they could be done with Zimmerman. Move Werth into 1B and fill out the OF with Harper, Revere, and Cespedes, dramatically improves defense and doesn't make them reliant on Zimmerman ever being healthy and regaining form. Thats the only scenario that makes much sense to me. Or they know Zimmerman is going to get busted for PEDs
  2. No doubt in my mind that they have had communications with the other options
  3. QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Jan 21, 2016 -> 04:47 PM) It's not the case. Don't people read? I mean f***ing seriously.... Again, who has said more than 3 years has been offered by the Sox?
  4. QUOTE (SouthSideSale @ Jan 21, 2016 -> 04:39 PM) The Nats just don't make sense for him. But they have a window so they could be going all out. Also probably think it hurts the Mets as well
  5. QUOTE (blackmooncreeping @ Jan 21, 2016 -> 04:34 PM) They just better hit the secondary market pronto if Cespedes doesn't come to Chicago. Can't start the season with Avi in right...please. In all honesty, Hahn's job should be on the line this season
  6. QUOTE (Al Lopez's Ghost @ Jan 21, 2016 -> 04:32 PM) If they add Fowler, or Desmond, they will be viewed for what they are. Also rans. Second rate...unwilling to compete. No Cespedes? Hahn better have some big trade up his sleeve. Adams for Cargo? Something to show an honest effort to improve the team...and that ain't Fowler, IMO. Before last season, Desmond had been a significantly better player than Cespedes
  7. BTW, Cespedes and Dusty could be a horrible combination
  8. QUOTE (staxx @ Jan 21, 2016 -> 04:26 PM) I don't see anywhere on Nightengale's twitter where he says the Nat's offer is the "strongest". Maybe im missing something Supposedly on MLB network
  9. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Jan 21, 2016 -> 04:23 PM) Could end up as a blessing in disguise. If I knew the Sox were going to take the money they're offering Cespedes and use it elsewhere, I'd be totally fine with that. Just don't want to see them not get Cespedes and say he was a special circumstance and that they're going to stick with Avi.
  10. Jon HeymanVerified account ‏@JonHeyman 3m3 minutes ago Nats reportedly back involved with cespedes. They seemed set in OF, but could trade to open spot. @Ken_Rosenthal on this.
  11. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jan 21, 2016 -> 04:18 PM) Yes, just not the "we'll see where we are at and adjust near the deadline". Get as good as you can get right now, and adjust at the deadline if needed. The other way hasn't worked. Couldn't agree more
  12. QUOTE (soxfan2014 @ Jan 21, 2016 -> 04:16 PM) Agree. As long as they still upgrade the team from now until Spring Training. Which if they're offering Cespedes a 3 year deal, it should mean they have money to use now if he goes elsewhere
  13. QUOTE (shipps @ Jan 21, 2016 -> 04:12 PM) I think the really depressing part of it is the fact that from the start the Sox were widely considered to be one of the favorites to land one of the big 3. The fans put a lot of stock in that and followed these stories extremely closely just to wind up with none of them in the end. It may wind up being a HUGE PR hit on the Sox whether its warranted or not. Agreed
  14. Also if Cespedes goes to the Nationals, the meltdown by Mets fans will be epic
  15. If the sox are only willing to go 3 years, then I trust their judgment in this situation. When about 95 percent of the teams are reluctant to give a player a long term deal, there is probably a reason for it.
  16. Rosenthal also reporting 3 year max for Sox http://www.foxsports.com/mlb/story/washing...osenthal-012016
  17. Fowler wants 4 years from most reports
  18. Why do you keep mentioning Lawrie as an outfielder?
  19. QUOTE (iamshack @ Jan 21, 2016 -> 04:02 AM) Think the Cubs are still kicking the tires? Absolutely, Bernstein was saying on the radio yesterday they are willing to trade Soler
  20. QUOTE (Tony @ Jan 21, 2016 -> 03:59 AM) That would be my strategy as an agent. In theory, 2-3 teams will be left out in the cold, and he's the best option now available. And you know my theory that he might be waiting for the Cubs to trade Soler for Odorizzi
  21. What the hell happened to Mirotic? Just awful
  22. QUOTE (iamshack @ Jan 21, 2016 -> 03:56 AM) Well, if he's really 3/$40, and Cespedes is 5/$125, and we are unwilling to go more than 3 years, I really find it odd that we haven't signed Fowler yet. Fowler probably waiting to see how many teams want him after big 3 sign
  23. QUOTE (ptatc @ Jan 21, 2016 -> 02:50 AM) Wow, we have a third person to agree with us. Tony is a Cubs fan though, so that explains why he wants Fowler
  24. QUOTE (Tony @ Jan 21, 2016 -> 02:46 AM) There have been some reports out there as well about some executives feel like 2015 was a true outlier season for Cespedes and your classic free agent push, and given his career numbers I seem to agree with that. Free agency is always not the optimal route to go, but I feel like with Cespedes, you will absolutely be paying for past performances and not anything close to what he is actually going to give you. Fowler has been a fairly consistent 2 WAR player the last 5 years and should cost as you said, nearly 70 million dollars less than Cespedes, who I'm just not sold on. Just personal preference, and I know I'm in the minority. I will also be excited if Cespedes does join the Sox, but I think it's playing with fire. Couldn't agree more, well done
  25. I wonder if we see a rumor in next 24 hours linking Sox to Fowler, Jackson or Desmond
