  1. For me, I would have been pissed if a team signed him for something like 3/65. However, I'm at peace with what he got and Sox not offering. All the best to the Mets in the NL
  2. QUOTE (SoxPride18 @ Jan 23, 2016 -> 06:05 AM) The clear answer is Desmond & Jackson, but I wouldn't be opposed to a Desmond & trade for one of the Colorado OFers. Yep, I'm on board with that. I don't think Jackson or Fowler is happening.
  3. God knows I have too many posts in this thread that were anti-Cespedes, but for those that wanted him....would you have been ok with paying him 27.5?
  4. If he doesn't opt out, it almost definitely means he didn't come anywhere close to repeating his 2015 season.
  5. QUOTE (2005thxfrthmmrs @ Jan 23, 2016 -> 05:52 AM) Any move to spend the "$27.5 mil" that is thought to be available is a mistake at this point. Any offensive players that remains out there are 4th or 5th options, and won't get much ROI for the money. Need to think outside the box and trade for someone who's considered a reclamation project. Ian Desmond is a great reclamation project who is extremely likely to earn his salary
  6. QUOTE (SoxPride18 @ Jan 23, 2016 -> 05:49 AM) It's 25 million a year if he does not opt out. If he opt outs after year 1, his salary that first year will be 27.5 million. Heyman and Rosenthal tweeted it I believe. Highest amount ever for an outfielder I believe
  7. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jan 23, 2016 -> 05:48 AM) Soler or Baez for pitching to TB and then Fowler coming back makes too much sense... Plus Soler upped his value a bit with that flash of potential in the post-season. I think it's more likely the Cubs get Fowler than the Sox do. Cubs will also probably trade Hammel to free some money.
  8. QUOTE (ChiSoxFanMike @ Jan 23, 2016 -> 05:40 AM) ...while giving up 2 draft picks in the process. Hell no to that idea. You gain one back next year if you sign one of them to 1-year deal
  9. QUOTE (ptatc @ Jan 23, 2016 -> 05:39 AM) It will be interesting to see. I'm not sure there are improvements out there. EJ needs a shot in the rotation. Desmond is interesting but the sox need defebse there for the oitching staff. Where did the notion come that Desmond is bad on D?
  10. Still just hope that if they were in on Cespedes that they use that money elsewhere in the next few weeks.
  11. No deferred money included...no way Sox were topping this
  12. No clue how true, but from Wednesday https://mobile.twitter.com/HotStoveCubbies/...045666983182336
  13. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jan 23, 2016 -> 05:24 AM) If he clearly wanted to go to the Mets all along, they should have done their due diligence and started negotiating with Fowler, Jackson, Desmond, etc., days ago. We'll see if that was the case or not...if they really believed they were playing poker and the market was forced in their favor or direction. Why would any of those guys sign before Cespedes went somewhere?
  14. QUOTE (SoxPride18 @ Jan 23, 2016 -> 05:21 AM) 27.5 million if he opts out in year 1. Gross
  15. Hahn said the Sox had to get creative. No way they could afford 25 million for 2016
  16. On the bright side, Quintana's ERA just dropped half a point
  17. And before people get worked up, who's to say he would have accepted a 3 year deal from anyone but the Mets?
  18. Opt-outs are ruining baseball. Guys are going to be jumping from team to team so often now.
  19. QUOTE (ChiSoxFanMike @ Jan 23, 2016 -> 05:12 AM) I was referring to strictly outfielders. Frazier and Lawrie are nice but I don't know if this team is good enough even with them. And honestly probably not good enough with Cespedes
  20. QUOTE (ChiSoxFanMike @ Jan 23, 2016 -> 05:09 AM) I am not melting down. Please don't put words in my mouth. It's just annoying how the Royals and Tigers upgraded and the Sox got absolutely no one. But that's how it always is so I'm not surprised. The offseason isn't over on January 22nd
  21. QUOTE (Al Lopez's Ghost @ Jan 23, 2016 -> 05:03 AM) I hope he destroys the Cubs. Yep
  22. QUOTE (ChiSoxFanMike @ Jan 23, 2016 -> 05:06 AM) This is disappointing. Very disappointing. Here comes the meltdown
  23. QUOTE (ChiSoxFanMike @ Jan 23, 2016 -> 05:03 AM) How in the world do the Sox not beat that offer? Because he wanted to go back to the Mets
