White Sox vs Buddy Bell's Royals 06/20/05
Here's the thing with McCarthy: If he is unable to strikeout MLB hitters at a solid rate (like he's done in the minors), he's going to have to either develop another pitch or change from a 4-seam to a 2-seam fastball. The scary thing about tonight's performance was that it wasn't even the long ball that hurt him. I'm not giving up on McCarthy, but I wouldn't shed a tear if we used him in a trade. Problem is, Duque's health problems probably won't allow for us to trade him.

Be nice to see a strikeout once this game for our pitchers.

So let me get this straight: Against the Cubs, Ozzie is extremely quick with the McCarthy hook. Yet tonight, he was way, way too patient.

QUOTE(That funky motion @ Jun 21, 2005 -> 01:46 AM) Pods is a average left fielder at best! That would have been an incredible catch. You know McCarthy blows when people are whining the ump should have called the 3rd strike on Stairs (pitch wasn't close) or Pods should have made a great catch. Cotts should have been in to face Stairs, but we tried to get him the win.

KW: We need a 5th starter! McCarthy's inability to strike hitters out tonight just killed him.

What the f*** was that 3-2 pitch there? I'd pull McCarthy for Cotts here, but I understand trying to get him the win.

With Garland, Buehrle, and then an off day on Thursday, I don't mind taxing our bullpen if needed tonight.

Big inning coming up for McCarthy here. I'm sure Ozzie will give him every chance to qualify for the win. Also, I think Willie "looks" like he should be faster than Ozuna because he's smaller and bunts so often. However, judging by my own eyes, Ozuna seems to run the bases quicker.

He might lead the world in fewest feet per hit, but one thing you can never question about Ozuna is his hustle.

QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Jun 21, 2005 -> 01:22 AM) Ok, well this is true I don't know your schedule but I made that comment cause you also disappeared from the game thread during that Dbacks game once the Sox started coming back. I was on chat the entire time. I just wanted to stay out of the bickering that was going on with the thread.

I think Ozuna is faster than Willie Harris. Even though Joe Morgan claimed Willie was our faster player last night, I really think Pods and Ozuna are faster.

QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Jun 21, 2005 -> 01:19 AM) I love it how you only jump into the game threads when bad things happen. Thanks for knowing my schedule. Or maybe I just got back in the last inning after being out for the first few innings. I'm on here just as much as anyone else.

Dye's defense is just insanely bad this season. If you're not going to catch it, you have to knock the ball down. Also, I'm still refraining from making a judgment on McCarthy, but I'll say this: for the right player, I'd trade him in a heartbeat.

Nothing is ever easy it seems like. That was definitely a play that Harris needs to make at 2nd base.

Hermanson is up with everything. Something just doesn't look right at all.

Cotts should be getting loose in case Hermanson struggles, and Choi and Drew come up this inning.

Little tidbit to think about.....last time Hermanson faced the Dodgers, he was busy blowing a game which cost the Giants a chance at the playoffs. Hopefully, he gets his revenge on national television.

Just like to say that was a great job by Ozzie of utilizing Frank in a way that could impact the whole inning. That's very good managing.

QUOTE(Jabroni @ Jun 20, 2005 -> 02:11 AM) Stupid managing once again. Ozzie lets Contreras face Choi even though Choi can't hit lefties at all. Should have pulled Contreras and made Marte face Choi. Exactly. We had an opportunity to face a much easier out in Choi by bringing in Marte, but instead, we put Drew in a position to do some serious damage. Ozzie trying to let Contreras get the win?

Well done Willie!!!!! Probably the hardest hit ball he's had all season.

QUOTE(Jabroni @ Jun 20, 2005 -> 01:48 AM) Let's see if Willie can hit the ball out of the infield. His best chance at getting a hit is when there's someone on first base, and the 1B has to hold the runner at first, opening up the hole on right side of the infield.

QUOTE(Soxfest @ Jun 20, 2005 -> 01:37 AM) Why do Sox always lay an egg on sunday night national tv on ESPN. Sox recors is terrible on ESPN Maybe because our players try to swing for the fences even more during these nationally broadcasted game? Just my theory.

Uribe against a pitcher like Weaver is a recipe for an 0-4 night. Any pitcher with a slow offspeed pitch kicks Uribe's ass.
