FutureSox Top 25 Prospects List - Midseason
I think Hawkins is rated too high at 3, as Montas would be higher on my list and Danish might also. Looking over Hawkins' splits, and one shocking stat is how bad he has been against LHP this year: 193/294/303 Another thing that concerns me a bit about Hawkins is that for as much power as he has, it hasn't resulted in a significant amount of home runs. He's going to need to get his HR total into the high 20s/low 30s for me to get optimistic about that tool playing up. Also, the fact that the scouting experts that saw Hawkins had generally nothing positive to say about his in-game ability makes me lower on him than most.

QUOTE (BaconOnAStick @ Aug 8, 2014 -> 05:58 AM) This indeed is a problem. But right now the bullpen is giving up an unimaginable amount of runs. Even if a bad starter gives up 5 in 5 innings and the Sox offense matches it's a foregone conclusion that the opponent is going to hit double digits runs. It's impossible to win anything with a pen this bad. You can at least try to make up for a couple bad starters. Then they should claim someone off of waivers. To me, Rodon's development as a starter is a million times more important than possibly winning a meaningless game in September.

Once again, Beckham is hesitant on what could be a double play ball.

QUOTE (BaconOnAStick @ Aug 8, 2014 -> 05:47 AM) The Sox might be realising they have to overhaul the entire bullpen in one offseason, and since spending big money on a closer is out of the question they may have to Rodon it for a year. Then everyone that makes decisions in the organization should be fired.

QUOTE (Soxfest @ Aug 8, 2014 -> 05:46 AM) He got all the money he could, now it is the Sox turn to set policy. I would not use him at all this year. I'm not a fan at all of having these guys who have started their entire career change up their routine just to throw 15 pitches in an inning for the entire game.

QUOTE (Jose Abreu @ Aug 8, 2014 -> 04:42 AM) Are you suggesting he do that in the Majors? I would keep him in the minors the rest of the year, as he threw a ton of pitches for NC St. Given the fact this team isn't playing for anything the rest of the way, I'm just not a fan of rushing him up.

Conor's defense has gone to hell the last few weeks.

QUOTE (Soxfest @ Aug 8, 2014 -> 05:40 AM) MLB.com's Scott Merkin writes that there's a "better-than-average chance" White Sox pitching prospect Carlos Rodon is promoted this season to work as a reliever. It would be the same developmental path Chris Sale took in 2010, and that's worked out pretty well for the Pale Hose. Sale threw 23 1/3 relief innings for the White Sox that year, but he was called up in early August. If he's promoted, Rodon isn't expected to be up until September. The No. 3 overall pick has allowed four runs while striking out 13 over nine innings in his first five pro appearances. For what it's worth, manager Robin Ventura said he hasn't given thought to Rodon being promoted. "I'm not even going down that far," Ventura said. "We are concerned about what's going on right here. If they say he's pitching well enough to come up, then the more the merrier at this point." I'm really not a fan of promoting him so he can be a reliever. I like the approach they took today of allowing him to prepare like he was a starter, and then give him a few innings.

Rienzo leaving no doubt about who gets sent down when Putnam is activated.

QUOTE (peavy44 @ Aug 8, 2014 -> 04:34 AM) Here we go more runs to come for mariners. That's cause Rienzo is horrible.

Sox are now 28th in the majors in Team ERA. No shock, as they have far and away the worst ERA in the majors since the ASB, as they are creeping up on a full run higher than the next closest team. Hahn and Cooper can't have another offseason where the pitching acquisitions all bust and the prospects closest to the majors take a giant step back (Johnson, Rienzo)

Is this bullpen Rick Hahn's fault?
Hahn should have had a long reliever on the roster to start the season. Trying to make Webb the long reliever was a mistake, in my opinion.

QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Aug 8, 2014 -> 04:20 AM) I believe it. I also believe the guy hasn't been "right" all year. I wouldn't be surprised if it had to do with his mom passing Good point, he's definitely one of the guys I really want to see succeed as he can actually be a long-term fit for the squad.

QUOTE (Soxfest @ Aug 8, 2014 -> 04:20 AM) Hawk finally admits bullpen is s*** of course not anyone's fault and Hahn cannot do anything about it now. Tons of blame to go around for this bullpen. Hahn, the scouts, Cooper and especially, the veterans in the pen.

QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Aug 8, 2014 -> 05:15 AM) Webb is fun like a root canal Remember how he was supposedly throwing 99-100 in the minors?

Sox willing to deal Beckham in "right deal now"
QUOTE (Jake @ Aug 8, 2014 -> 03:34 AM) His Cape Cod performance seemed to put everyone at ease re: wood bats. Could be a deal where the people who doubted his wood bat prowess were correct, it just took a while for sample sizes to bear that out Beckham has the same issue that Morel had in my opinion. Both can hit the ball well to the opposite field, but they lack the power to consistently get it over the right fielder's head or over the fence. Morel was the king of that...so many deep fly outs to right that just needed another 10-15 feet.

QUOTE (peavy44 @ Aug 8, 2014 -> 04:04 AM) Why cant we bring up.chris beck too replace carroll or tommy hansen and really at this point who cares im tired of seeing scott carroll out there. Have you seen Beck's stats in the minors this year?
-
Chicago and Seattle Tonight
In a lineup with so many lefties, Carroll had no chance tonight. Lefties have hit over .300 against him this year.

QUOTE (greg775 @ Aug 8, 2014 -> 04:01 AM) He's been less repulsive of late. I think unlike Beckham he does have hitting tools to work with. I wonder what he's like personally. Can he take to coaching? Surely they recommend he do what he did his last at bat; elevate, but go with the pitch more. You gotta admit ... when Tank is going bad, which is a lot, he truly is a wreck at the plate. But I agree. I wouldn't puke if sox brought him back. Just wish he'd improve. He provides a little bit of power, which has a chance to be a massive liability for the Sox next year.

QUOTE (Jose Abreu @ Aug 8, 2014 -> 04:57 AM) By the way people usually talk about Viciedo here, you wouldn't think he has 15 HRs this year. He's the one guy out of him, Beckham, ADA, Dunn and Leury that I would be fine with if they bring him back. I think there's going to be a lot of at bats available next year in the outfield and DH (especially if Avi leaves every game due to an injury)

QUOTE (BigHurt3515 @ Aug 8, 2014 -> 04:54 AM) And he just struck out 3 times tonight I actually am interested to see if he can become a good #9 hitter (with Eaton being #1). It could create a lot of good hitting situations for not only Eaton, but Abreu and Avi (who should bat 2nd)

Tank with the power stroke going! He loves the Mariners, it seems

QUOTE (Jose Abreu @ Aug 8, 2014 -> 04:50 AM) He's hitting .291 in Charlotte, he was just promoted earlier this year And his OPS is crashing towards .700 as he's 2 for his last 22. His walk rate is way down in AAA compared to AA (same thing that happened last year from A to AA).
