  1. QUOTE (Soxfest @ Dec 10, 2013 -> 10:08 PM) ADA is not going to bring much back in a deal. Why is this? He's just as good as these guys getting 2 year, 10 million dollar deals.
  2. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Dec 10, 2013 -> 09:58 PM) Our players suck until we trade them. Then they are the greatest thing ever. B>W and I were on the Santiago bandwagon even before the season started
  3. QUOTE (southside hitman @ Dec 10, 2013 -> 09:58 PM) Santiago averages 12.2 baserunners per 9 IP and is flyball prone pitching at the cell. While also having to build his stamina during the year because of the dumb decision by the Sox heading into the season? Santiago has a pretty high ceiling, IMO. A much higher ceiling than the likes of Rienzo.
  4. QUOTE (southside hitman @ Dec 10, 2013 -> 08:52 PM) Santiago could never be a #2. I am sorry, he's a great competitor on the mound and does well for his tools but he's not a frontline starter. He's a solid rotation member who will eat innings. I think Paulino, if healthy, can duplicate what Santiago could do. We got tremendous value for Santiago if Eaton comes back healthy and comes close to doing what he's done consistently in the minors. Seems premature to say that, as he could easily classify as a #2 if he makes the same leap Quintana did.
  5. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Dec 10, 2013 -> 08:43 PM) Let me guess, our return will be a lower level minor league pitcher? Which wouldn't be enough for ADA, but oh well.
  6. QUOTE (shakes @ Dec 10, 2013 -> 08:15 PM) I actually really like this. No way at this time last year could the Sox have made this trade. That's the fickle nature of the prospect world. Last time we heard this was from KW taking about Simon Castro
  7. Nathaniel Stoltz, who does a great job covering the minor leagues, said this: Nathaniel Stoltz ‏@stoltz_baseball 59m Still think he has value, but he projects as a 4OF at this point RT @SpaldingBalls not really a prospect anymore, but thoughts on Adam Eaton
  8. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Dec 10, 2013 -> 08:37 PM) And that's fine, I have no problem with that. They aren't the holy grail either. I think Santiago can certainly improve as a starter and his game will play much better in LA than it did and does here, but to me I think he will ultimately be more of a #3/4 rather than a #2/3. We will see though. I really like Eaton though and think he is going to be a nice addition. Don't get me wrong, I'm absolutely fine with them trading Hector. I was just hoping for a little bit more in return. Of course, watch everyone overreact tomorrow if the prospect the Sox send in the deal is one of the bigger named guys in the system
  9. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Dec 10, 2013 -> 08:33 PM) The increase in production (if there is any) is going to be offset by the damage to the rotation when you have to force Johnson and Rienzo into it, and still not knowing if Danks is ever going to improve. And it's not like we didn't draft/trade for about five minor league outfielders in the last 3-4 years. It all comes back to the fact that if De Aza didn't play so goofy last year, he could have stayed in CF and the Sox would still have Santiago on the roster.
  10. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Dec 10, 2013 -> 08:31 PM) I know you guys hate it and it's going to do nothing to change your mind, but his FIPs and xFIPs have been in the 4.4-4.7 range. He walks too many guys, doesn't throw enough ground balls, doesn't work deep into games, and was either really lucky/good/both about stranding runners. I'll be the first to admit I don't follow FIP and xFIP.
  11. QUOTE (GoGoSox2k2 @ Dec 10, 2013 -> 08:33 PM) For all the people saying they'd much rather be getting Davidson or Owings. According to BA at the end of 2013 season Eaton is ranked ahead of them both on the Dbacks top 15 under 25 years old Nice tidbit!
  12. QUOTE (Buehrle>Wood @ Dec 10, 2013 -> 07:28 PM) Young cost controlled starter with a career ERA of 3.30 and Ks 8.9 per 9? Doubt it. He needs to be a little more efficient but it's fixable. Santiago had a better ERA last year for the Sox than Gavin Floyd ever did.
  13. QUOTE (Andy the Clown @ Dec 10, 2013 -> 08:21 PM) So can guys like Santiago. 3.56 ERA with 8.4 K/9IP is pretty good
  14. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Dec 10, 2013 -> 07:14 PM) Coming into 2013, Skaggs was a top 10-15 prospect. I think the D Backs got the worst of the deal. Trumbo has been going backwards. IIRC, big concerns about Skaggs losing velocity last year
  15. QUOTE (Chilihead90 @ Dec 10, 2013 -> 07:11 PM) I'm okay with this deal as long as it ends as with these guys and there are no prospects coming from the Sox. I don't love it, but I think it fills a need we had at CF while using surplus pitching we had. I know I'm going to get backlash for this, but what exactly is this surplus of pitching the Sox have? Guys like Rienzo can be found in every organization.
  16. QUOTE (Jake @ Dec 10, 2013 -> 08:09 PM) I'd much rather receive Eaton than Trumbo. I thought you guys didn't like Adam Dunn But Santiago >>Skaggs
  17. QUOTE (chisoxfan310 @ Dec 10, 2013 -> 08:09 PM) It all depends on what we do with our next inevitable moves: either trading De Aza or Viciedo. I think trading Viciedo would be selling low though while trading De Aza would be selling high. Trading ADA would be selling low
  18. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Dec 10, 2013 -> 08:06 PM) Skaggs and Santiago for Trumbo? I know he makes a lot less money, but look at Trumbo's numbers vs. Adam Dunn's numbers and it's not like Trumbo is a magician with the leather. Yep, sensational deal for Angels if true. Sure seems like the Sox though are getting the worst end of this deal.
  19. QUOTE (pettie4sox @ Dec 10, 2013 -> 08:04 PM) Would some of you say Santiago is still raw? Absolutely, while showing a heck of a lot of potential.
  20. QUOTE (HickoryHuskers @ Dec 10, 2013 -> 06:29 PM) I'm still trying to figure out why everybody is so anxious to get rid of a 26 year old starting pitcher who is 4 years away from free agency and has a 126 ERA+ in 224 innings. +10000000000000000000
  21. QUOTE (dayan024 @ Dec 10, 2013 -> 06:23 PM) Chris Cotillo ‏@ChrisCotillo 59s Howie Kendrick is NOT involved in the deal, reports @JeffFletcherOCR and @Alden_Gonzalez. Deal is getting close. Back to not liking it
  22. QUOTE (The Ultimate Champion @ Dec 10, 2013 -> 07:19 PM) Kendrick gets $9.35M in 2014 & $9.5M in 2015 We move him then right? Still go with Semien? Who knows, maybe Semien is the good prospect included? I would definitely keep Kendrick and see what you get from him for a year. In our park, he might hit 20-25 homers.
  23. QUOTE (dayan024 @ Dec 10, 2013 -> 06:14 PM) Chris Cotillo ‏@ChrisCotillo 1m Those rumors first reported by @keithlaw. That's not necessarily the deal, that's all the pieces involved. If it goes like previous deals, it will only be Eaton (or low-level minor leaguers), and we'll debate for 30 minutes about who else is included only to find out it's no one we've heard of.
  24. QUOTE (dayan024 @ Dec 10, 2013 -> 07:13 PM) So if Sox do get Kendrick who gets traded Beckham or Alexei? Beckham, possibly to the Braves or Reds (if they trade Phillips). Just pure guesses on my part
  25. Me likey if Kendrick is in the deal
