QUOTE (Brian @ Sep 8, 2013 -> 02:58 AM) This is all Gardner and Gallon. Michigan rarely getting in backfield and O line looks bad. And Gardner goes and does that...ugh

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Sep 8, 2013 -> 12:10 AM) So you're saying he wouldn't make a great starting pitcher. Wow. And his slider was a plus pitch last year. I was on the Hector to start bandwagon along with B>W before this season even started. I'm a big fan of Hector's, but I think for him to become a reliable starting pitcher in terms of innings like SS2K mentioned, he's going to need to improve on his offspeed pitches. If he can develop even his offspeed pitches, he can easily be a #3 pitcher going forward.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Sep 7, 2013 -> 10:55 PM) His pitches are fine, he just needs to throw more strikes. I feel like all of his offspeed pitches are well below average, which is one of the reasons he ends up throwing so many pitches as the hitters just foul off his fastball.

With an OPS over 1.4 vs LHP, Birmingham shouldn't even consider pitching to Baez if a lefty is on the mound.

QUOTE (Marty34 @ Sep 7, 2013 -> 10:39 PM) I think you have to be concerned about the starters behind Sale during this streak. I think Santiago has taken a step back. Is it fatigue or is he always going to be a guy who throws a lot of pitches. If it's the latter that means he's likely a back-of-the-rotation pitcher. Santiago has got to develop something besides a fastball to ever limit his pitches, IMO. The loss of velocity over the course of the season was a given due to his lack of experience. In a perfect world, if he can be your #4/5, you can have an outstanding rotation.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Sep 7, 2013 -> 10:39 PM) I don't mind people cheering for the draft pick nearly as much as the people waiting to celebrate every failure by declaring how right they were about player x being mediocre because of a single outing. The garbage about Reed in this thread is a perfect example. I hate that yahoo changed their sports format, as they used to have this information easily accessible. Do you know what the average ERA is for relievers in the majors?

QUOTE (bbilek1 @ Sep 7, 2013 -> 09:19 PM) What do you mean what is the point? If we play .500 because the Garcias, Phegley, Viciedo, Beckham, Semien and the rotation keeps pitching well I would be happy. An ideal situation would be us going into the 8th inning leading 5-1 with the aforementioned players making a great contribution (hitters hitting and starter getting a QS) and Axelrod/Troncoso/Veal come in and blow the game then so be it, that would be great. I just don't have it in me to cheer for Weiters against Reed. When Gillaspie went yard I yelled out "Yes!" and when De Aza made a terrible play in LF I yelled out "damnit!" I understand why losing could be a good thing and I don't want us to win out but playing around .500 with our young players succeeding is worth picking 4-6 instead of 3. The draft is a crap shoot. I am mostly rooting for the teams in the 3-7 spots to keep winning and our young players to see success in their respective roles. That's the thing, outside of a good game for Viciedo, the young hitters on the Sox were struggling to even put the ball in play. You know it's bad when Beckham is PH for by JorDanks.

QUOTE (Marty34 @ Sep 7, 2013 -> 08:54 PM) His stuff at the major league level just hasn't been what it was reported to be in the minors. He's the least of this organization's problems right now though. If you can get a big time package in return for him this offseason, by all means, do it.

QUOTE (Marty34 @ Sep 7, 2013 -> 09:49 PM) Addison Reed is not a closer. He seems to be a very average reliever. To his credit, it's ridiculous they pitched him all those games in a row. It's no shock he's struggled since then.

Gotta love Ventura letting Keppinger face Johnson but having Dunn hit for the only person to do anything today, Viciedo. Kudos to Ventura for trying to lose this game!

Santiago losing his velocity as season goes on. The announcers already acting shocked at how many fastballs the Sox are swinging and missing.
