Besides CarGo, it wouldn't shock me if they go after Longoria

QUOTE (BigHurt3515 @ Dec 10, 2014 -> 06:25 AM) Boooooo!!! As I said the other day, I'd rather Lester was the ace they got instead of eventually getting someone better like Price, Cueto or Zimmermann.

Jeff Passan ‏@JeffPassan 58s59 seconds ago Jon Lester, Cubs agree on six-year, $155M deal, sources tell Yahoo Sports. Red Sox are runners-up. Their final bid: six for $135M.

Ken Rosenthal @Ken_Rosenthal · 1m 1 minute ago Sources: Lester to #Cubs. Well, it was nice having the attention of Chicago for 24 hours

QUOTE (Jerksticks @ Dec 10, 2014 -> 07:06 AM) No offense but f*** platoons. We need a starting 8 out there. Not with Gillaspie on this roster, as well as LaRoche.

What about a LF platoon of Parra and Denorfia? Also, it's important that the back-up outfielder can play CF due to Eaton's injury issues.

QUOTE (SoxPride18 @ Dec 10, 2014 -> 06:14 AM) I would figure Baez and Edwards would be the center pieces. Castillo for sure as well. If Rockies make that trade, they might as well trade Tulo to the Mets.

‏@TomLoxas Cubs talking with Rockies. Cargo the big bat to entice Lester? Hopefully he would take the Jeff Blauser Title of once a Cubs killer, always a Cubs killer

I really think it's Micah Johnson, especially with Hahn stressing the need for the team to be more athletic. It sure seemed like when they got rid of Beckham last year, Johnson was the player they wanted to see (injury prevented it).

QUOTE (Buehrle>Wood @ Dec 9, 2014 -> 11:06 PM) In baseball, the team is absolutely worth more than the individual players when it comes to attendance. I'm not going to pretend we'll average 35k for shark's starts or anything, but I do believe we'll see a noticeable bump in walkups when he's on the mound. I believe the same holds true for a lot of Sale starts, promotion notwithstanding. I'd be interested in the exact stats on that though because I don't have them. By name recognition, there's no doubt he was one of the most known players in Chicago the last 5 years. I heard people talking about the move in the office today that I didn't even know followed baseball.

QUOTE (Harry Chappas @ Dec 9, 2014 -> 10:19 PM) Zimmerman or Price will cost them a good prospect if not two making it a lateral move. I do not think the Reds are making that trade in their division. I meant after the season ends, when Cueto/Price would be free agents.

QUOTE (Harry Chappas @ Dec 9, 2014 -> 09:14 PM) Still think the Yankees will move in and it will be an grossly inflated contract in the end. I know the Cubs are going to end up signing or trading for an ace. I'd rather it be Lester as opposed to Zimmermann or Price or Cueto. If they give Lester a 7 year deal, that would be insane. By the time their stud prospects become stars (if they end up reaching their potential), then it's likely Lester will be well past his peak.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Dec 9, 2014 -> 10:06 PM) Bob Nightengale ‏@BNightengale 3m3 minutes ago Bobby Evans also says they don't necessarily expect a Lester decision today. #SFGiants #Cubs #Redsox He also said he doesn't think the Giants will get him. The one constant in every rumor has been that the Cubs are in his top two, and I'll be surprised if that's not where he ends up.

QUOTE (Melissa1334 @ Dec 9, 2014 -> 07:39 PM) Samardzija on the score around 2:15 Nothing too interesting. He did say he doesn't want to negotiate just yet, as he'd rather get familiar with the organization and vice versa.

Scott Merkin ‏@scottmerkin 15m15 minutes ago Samardzija wants to hit a HR in Interleague games so Hawk can make the call on his blast

QUOTE (shysocks @ Dec 9, 2014 -> 06:54 PM) Total speculation here, but it'll either happen soon or not at all. I don't think it will happen soon, as I'm sure he'll want to see what Lester/Shields/Max get

QUOTE (Buehrle>Wood @ Dec 9, 2014 -> 06:54 PM) Yeah but he's not even a starter anymore. Not complaing. Shark is the haul here and I love this. As someone said earlier, the Semien/Danish/Trey M. rumor made this deal seem even better

Awesome to get this deal done without giving up Anderson, Danish or Montas.

QUOTE (SoxPride18 @ Dec 9, 2014 -> 03:56 PM) My friend just tweeted that he just listened to 670 the score and they said a rumor out there is Danks for Carl Crawford. Anybody hear this? Crawford is someone that I think the White Sox have always liked and could be a good fit in LF. If the money works out, then yes please.

Looks like Saxon fell for fake report also. Doesn't look like he knows if Trayce was included

QUOTE (TaylorStSox @ Dec 9, 2014 -> 07:39 AM) I know everyone is down on Thompson but he still is young and has a ton of upside. I think Semien has a very high floor. That's a lot to give for a rental IMO. He's just not the type of player the Sox are able to develop. He really struggled repeating AA again. I wish him the best though.

QUOTE (Tmar @ Dec 9, 2014 -> 07:36 AM) Anybody know what position this smarja is going to play? WR with Marshall out

QUOTE (Baron @ Dec 9, 2014 -> 06:32 AM) Looks like Thompson is in the deal Reuniting with his brother in Oakland??

QUOTE (longshot7 @ Dec 9, 2014 -> 06:31 AM) Love the deal, but who plays 2B? I really think they want it to be Micah Johnson. I hope they find a decent righty utility guy to platoon with Conor.

QUOTE (SoxPride18 @ Dec 9, 2014 -> 07:30 AM) Surkamp over Snodgress. And I would bet we sign another reliever by the end of the winter meetings. Cleto might be in the mix
