  1. QUOTE (flavum @ Jun 7, 2011 -> 05:29 PM) So you think the Sox will be taking a college pitcher here at 80? yes
  2. QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Jun 7, 2011 -> 05:23 PM) Brewers take Jorge Lopez. Wow. What's the scoop on him?
  3. Safe to say with Cubs draft that they're going into rebuilding mode?
  4. I happen to like viewing grades...as long as you take them as prognostication and nothing else.
  5. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jun 7, 2011 -> 02:13 PM) Balta, not sure why you're quoting me about the board's response to our first round picks, and then what the Walker pick means about Mitchell. I wasn't terribly upset about Mitchell, as there were a lot of other people a lot more upset. I liked what I saw from him in the College World Series, and had high hopes for him. However, when you draft someone with the same skill set two years after drafting Mitchell (while he's struggling in the minors), then you start to think the organization has little confidence in him.
  6. QUOTE (SoxFan1 @ Jun 7, 2011 -> 05:53 AM) This is silly. I bet the Brewers front office is thrilled to get two college pitchers who are considered close to being major league ready. It's exactly what that organization needed, so I give them the best first round of anyone.
  7. It sounds like Sox will be taking a ton of pitchers in the next few rounds. I have a feeling we were going to take Goodwin if he was still around.
  8. Went to the game tonight, and a few observations: - Morel played very strong defense, as Seattle didn't hit a lot of balls hard - I don't think anyone at the park thought Konerko's homer was actually going to get out of the park - I can't recall the last person who was as hated on the Sox as Dunn is. The booing was contagious throughout the park, and started when he would get two strikes on him.
  9. The board has been pretty positive regarding our first round picks the last few years
  10. Nice write up by sickels. This makes Mitchell seem like a bust though
  11. Seems like someone we could have got in round two
  12. Not thrilled but not surprising. Now we will take MAC and Big 10 pitchers
  13. Just reading brief summary and not reviewing any mock drafts besides top 10 picks, the player who jumps out at me as someone that KW and company might like and is ranked in the 50 range is Anthony Meo of Coastal Carolina.
  14. QUOTE (ptatc @ Jun 6, 2011 -> 04:03 PM) It's not trying to be tough. It's his overall attitude. You can't be a extremely competitive person when you want to be. It's who he is. The same thing that makes him want to pitch through problems is the same thing that makes him a Cy Young award winning pitcher and a pitcher who came back from an unprecedented injury. Was what he did smart? No. But all athletes that are at the very top of their profession tend to have this attitude. Did MJ sit out of a game when he had food poisoning? No. Why did he do it? It's because that was his personality. If he would have flopped in that game everyone would have ripped him for playing while sick and "not helping the team." I prefer this attitude to the "giving up" attitude of some players. But then again that type of player is not usually one of the best in the game. If MJ would have sucked against Utah and not told anyone until after the game that he couldn't shoot straight due to being sick, I would have asked "why the hell didn't he tell the training staff before the end of the game instead of hurting his team's chances to win".
  15. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jun 6, 2011 -> 03:29 PM) That's pretty much how I feel about it. Question for the masses, should the Sox take a chance on any of these guys who have come up with injuries in the last month or so instead of picking from the healthy players? Could it be worth it in the long run? Absolutely you take a chance with someone who's stock has fallen due to injuries. If they haven't been injured yet, there's a decent chance most of them will be in the future anyways (Tommy John, shoulder, etc).
  16. QUOTE (ptatc @ Jun 6, 2011 -> 04:14 AM) so you prefer the type of athlete that, at the slightest pain just gives up and says I'm done? That's fine if you prefer an athlete with that type of attitude. I prefer the type that doesn't give in and continues to work at it. Pitching is a violent motion and pitchers always hurt to some extent. You get guys like Prior who can't deal with it and guys like Peavy who try to work through it. You can have Prior, I'll take Peavy. That's fine if he wants to pitch through the pain, but don't use it as an excuse if you start getting rocked. Plain and simple, he cost us the game today because he tried to be a warrior. That's pretty inexcusable after everything that's gone on with him the last year.
  17. Impressive win by the Heat...but I bet NBA wishes it was greater than a 2 point victory with the backcourt violation that will surely come into focus.
  18. Spolestra is definitely winning the battle of plays coming out of timeouts. Mavs have been a disaster in those situations.
  19. QUOTE (whitesoxfan99 @ Jun 6, 2011 -> 03:36 AM) So how come nobody is complaining about Dallas getting all the calls tonight? Indeed, except for the free 3 points that Miami got at end of 1st quarter.
  20. Mavs bench just killing them. Barea had a nice minute stretch, but besides that, he's been one of the Heat's best players.
  21. QUOTE (Jake @ Jun 6, 2011 -> 03:01 AM) He felt a "grabbing sensation" at first. He didn't try to pitch through something, he just didn't know if he was hurt. This is the type of thing where you're not sure what's wrong until it actually tightens up. Pitching through an injury would have been going back out there after that inning. He said he was trying to get out of the inning without using his leg. With all of the injuries he's had lately, he should have been smarter than trying to pitch with an ailment that could impact his mechanics.
  22. Maybe it's me, but seemed like an awful time to take Dirk out. Mavs bench continues to kill them in this game with terrible shot selection.
  23. So Peavy tried to pitch through the pain after the botched double play, and the result was he gave us no chance to win the game....AWESOME! That's not called being a grinder, that's called being stupid. http://www.chicagotribune.com/sports/baseb...0,1007957.story
