  1. QUOTE (Thad Bosley @ Jul 29, 2011 -> 04:11 AM) Retooling on the fly! Yep, and there's no better time to do it than now. As we've been discussing, you couldn't ask for a better market that what currently exists for guys we could trade for value in return (Quentin/Thornton especially).
  2. KW is flipping this roster trying to make it more flexible financially in the coming years. It's not hard to understand. If he trades anyone from our core roster, it will be at a position where we have a replacement (ie: Viciedo for Quentin, Ohman/Sale for Thornton). It's why you don't see him trying to trade AJP or Alexei right now.
  3. QUOTE (The Ginger Kid @ Jul 28, 2011 -> 11:50 PM) Kenny Williams has done to the Sox what Martz is doing the Bears what Booth did to Lincoln. Which is.....
  4. QUOTE (SoxFan1 @ Jul 29, 2011 -> 12:38 AM) I disagree. Give me Albert Pujols over 2-3 above average players every day. Above average players make you good, but great players make impacts. Totally agree
  5. QUOTE (Melissa1334 @ Jul 28, 2011 -> 11:07 PM) i dont know how to feel about trading quentin, for the future obviously its good but imagine how much worse the offense would be(if thats possible lol) If they trade Quentin, it's because they don't believe they have what it takes to win this year (IMO). Sure, Viciedo can put up some strong numbers, but if you're going for the pennant, then you don't trade Quentin. I'd be so impressed by Kenny if he does this, as if you're going to turn over the roster....you go "all in" with players available. I look at our roster, and there's not one person outside of Santos that should be untouchable.
  6. QUOTE (daggins @ Jul 28, 2011 -> 11:18 PM) Look at it this way - The Sox aren't winning anything this year without Dunn and Rios coming around. If those guys start hitting then they can win with Dayan in Qs place. I love this point!
  7. QUOTE (SoxFan1 @ Jul 28, 2011 -> 08:36 PM) Stay away from Minor. Braves fans dislike him. 90 mph fastball straight as an arrow. Interesting...saw him pitch last year against Cubs and he looked dynamite. However, I think if you're trading Quentin, you have to get a lot more than him.
  8. QUOTE (SOXOBAMA @ Jul 28, 2011 -> 09:31 PM) The Sox and Braves are talking about Quentin. The Braves are willing to trade any of their top pitching except Julio Teheran or Arodys Vizcaino.. This is according to David O'Brien... I could see the Sox going after Minor and another prospect
  9. Well, is the 12 inch sub cheaper than getting two 6 inch subs?
  10. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Jul 28, 2011 -> 09:29 PM) You'd now have that money was allocated for him and you can use it to try and pick up Fielder or some other needs. I highly, highly doubt you'll see JR going after big name free agents for a while.
  11. QUOTE (SoxFan1 @ Jul 28, 2011 -> 09:26 PM) If you're doing a massive sell-off at the deadline, yes. What if you're not doing a sell-off, and more looking at how you can compete next few years. Would you want to get out of that 42 million dollar obligation we have with him from '12-'14? My answer would be Hell Yes you let him go, as you would figure that the older he gets, the less productive he'll be.
  12. QUOTE (SoxFan1 @ Jul 28, 2011 -> 09:18 PM) There is not. He'll hit again. That would be excellent, but here's my question: would you unload him and his contract if someone claimed him off of waivers?
  13. wolf, is that sarcasm?
  14. QUOTE (elrockinMT @ Jul 28, 2011 -> 07:49 PM) Dunn will hit again there is no doubt. Putting him back in the NL might not be all bad for him or the Sox. If he stays here that's fine with me, but I sure wouldn't gripe about a trade back to the NL for something in return. Maybe just salary dump Dale Murphy says hello. There has got to be serious concerns about his bat speed/power decrease.
  15. Hell no to Chone. His numbers are horrific this season. I'd rather just have Rios rot on the bench than to watch Ozzie give him 600 at bats.
  16. I'd rather we trade Rios for Jason Bay with money being evened out. Chone looks to be done with
  17. QUOTE (iamshack @ Jul 28, 2011 -> 05:54 PM) I just don't know if he's a player we can afford to move right now...We have as good a chance to win this division as anyone right now, and with Peavy and Dunn and Rios on our payroll for the next 2-3 years, I'm not sure going young at this very moment, versus keeping Q and Danks and Floyd and trying to win this year and next, is the best solution. I hate you
  18. QUOTE (SoxFan1 @ Jul 28, 2011 -> 06:50 PM) I never thought that after 2008, Quentin would actually be UNDERRATED by Soxtalk. I think he's a great player. His defense this year has been just amazing compared to last year. I'd miss him, but if we're not going to have the money to extend him after next year, then right now is the perfect time to cash in on him.
  19. QUOTE (SoxFan1 @ Jul 28, 2011 -> 05:45 PM) FWIW, here's what a Braves fan friend of mine had to say about Beachy: mediocre stuff at best, but very smart and with great control.... he usually is quite good because of that, though when he has an off day and the control isn't there he gets killed.... basically, awesome #4 I'm not a huge fan. Seems like he'd struggle with the long ball in the AL. I'd rather get some of their prospects.
  20. QUOTE (Rowand44 @ Jul 28, 2011 -> 05:40 PM) If this stuff being bantered around the media is true than Q has to be gone at the end of this weekend, just has to. Go Boston?
  21. Hell, if you get a great package for CQ, then you can put Rios in RF for 2 weeks while Viciedo recovers. Let's face it...losing Quentin this year probably eliminates you from the AL Central pennant chase.
  22. QUOTE (beck72 @ Jul 28, 2011 -> 03:45 PM) The Daily News writer covering the Phils proposed a Brown, Singleton and Cosart deal for Carlos on Tues. http://www.philly.com/philly/blogs/phillie...the-farm--.html It was interesting to see the 61 comments on his article. Would a 1 for 1 deal be that far fetched? That would be an amazing trade for the Sox
  23. Indians fans aren't going to like him too much if he follows his general season pattern.
  24. For anyone that watched The Franchise tonight, seemed like Sabean might have been referring to Quentin saying they were interested in him a few weeks ago but KW said they wanted to see how this week went. Not that it's a surprise...just something cool to see on tv.
  25. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 28, 2011 -> 02:02 AM) The reality is you don't build his arm by yanking him at 75 pitches. It needs to be conditioned like any other muscle group. Thing is, it seems his injury has prevented him from being able to stretch out for longer than 75 pitches. This is something the doctor warned the Sox about heading into the year.
