This umpire has sucked tonight.
-
This umpire has really f***ed us over the last few innings. Vargas getting every call you can imagine, and then Smoak got a few calls go his way.

Great at bat by Beckham. Get a runner for Castro
-
Rios needs to be benched for good
-
Sox need Viciedo to provide some offense against LHP
-
Seems like Morel was playing too deep with a runner on 3rd when Kennedy was up. Made it easy for them to score
-
Got to keep the hitter honest by mixing in a fastball. Awful inning by Gavin

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jun 8, 2011 -> 07:22 PM) That .276 baa, .344 obpa, .483 slga.827 OPS line is sexy. And what's it been since the first two weeks?

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jun 8, 2011 -> 07:17 PM) As opposed to Will Ohman protecting a lead? Really? Sure, as long as he gets to face lefties.

QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Jun 8, 2011 -> 05:47 PM) Guys. Ozzie said himself that he didn't feel like he had availability in the pen so clearly Peavy was out there trying to see if he could make is way through it. After the inning he said he couldn't. Big deal. He tried to battle through and help the club and I'm pretty sure pitchers have at various points in time had zero control of there stuff and tried to work through it. My guess was Peavy was hoping that it would take a few pitches and it would losen back up and he'd be fine. Didn't happen and right after the inning he told the coaches he couldn't go anymore. That's the thing...you just can't take chances with Peavy after everything that's taken place.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jun 8, 2011 -> 05:45 PM) With Marquez having been sent out, and the the fact you weren't going to use Santos, Thornton, Sale, or Crain in that situation, you were down to having to choose between either Bruney or Ohman if Jake came out. It could very well be a question of does Peavy with a pull hurt his team more by being in there, or by allowing these guys to pitch multiple innings. Peavy with a pull hurts his team because it's a significant injury that puts his fragile body at risk of an even greater injury. And yes, Peavy with the command he had in the 4th inning is definitely worse than Bruney or Ohman there. Heck, Ohman went 2 innings, 1 run if I believe after Peavy left. I just don't buy into the "mystique" of Peavy, and I guess that's why I have a different viewpoint than a lot of you on here.

QUOTE (elrockinMT @ Jun 8, 2011 -> 06:23 PM) I think you are more correct than the the other arguments. It's bad enough now to hear the negative comments about Peavy and his injuries, but at least he went out and tried. He did look unhittable the first three innings and I am sure he had no idea how the "strain" was going to affect him prior to that fourth inning He injured himself worse after the second batter in the 4th inning. It was after that where he walked Boesch, walked Cabrera, gave up a very hard hit, deep sac fly to VMart, then he gave up an 0-2 single to Dirks, and then gave up a bomb to Raburn. Go back and read the thread...a few of us even noted how he was leaving every pitch over the heart of the plate.

QUOTE (iamshack @ Jun 8, 2011 -> 06:20 PM) BS. If he would have pulled himself without appearing to be ineffective first we would have been talking about how he is soft. Are you kidding? After the bulls*** about him trying to pitch through pain last year in his shoulder only to see it explode, and then with the Ozzie/Peavy conflict during spring, I don't think there's anyone here that would have criticized him for taking himself out if he truly felt he couldn't command the pitch. I'm sorry, but complaining about how injured you were after the fact and after hurting your team is bulls***.

QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Jun 8, 2011 -> 06:29 PM) Alexei maybe, but Humber and Quentin I don't think are in the discussion. Couple of people on MLB Network thought Quentin should be starting

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jun 8, 2011 -> 04:08 PM) At the end of the day, we aren't winning anything if Dunn and Rios don't contribute this year. As long as we are still "in" for this year, Ozzie has to find a way to get them going again. I used to be a big believer in this, but I'm confident Viciedo could put up similiar OPS numbers to Dunn the rest of the way. Viciedo higher average, Dunn higher OBP...similar power numbers. There's not much Ozzie can do to get Rios going again, as he seems like someone who's just fallen off the earth in 3 of the last 4 half seasons.
-
QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Jun 8, 2011 -> 05:02 PM) Teahen isn't blocking Viciedo, or at least he shouldn't be. I don't want to see Viciedo up to play part time, especially this early in the season where he's going to not get regular at bats the rest of the year. Add him in September on expansion, and if this team by some miracle is in the post-season, you make your tough choices. Right now, unless someone gets hurt or they are willing to release/bench Pierre (LOL), he should stay in AAA. I 100% disagree with this. It's Ozzie's job to find a place in the lineup for him with Dunn/Rios being unplayable. You're not going to want to play Lillibridge 7 games a week anyways, and you can get Viciedo some time at LF, 1B and DH. There's nothing left for Viciedo to prove in the minors.
-
QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Jun 8, 2011 -> 03:58 PM) Him and Santos are the ones that I think are likely candidates. Anyone else deserving? I don't think so, not at this point. Humber and Alexei and Quentin

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jun 8, 2011 -> 02:00 PM) He looked great when he started the game. And that's the frustrating part. He tweaked it on the blown double play in the 4th inning, and then after that, he said he couldn't throw the ball where he wanted to. After the Cabrera at bat, that's when he should have pulled himself (and kept us in the game). If he would have done that, I don't think anyone on here would have faulted him for his decision making.

One thing that was obvious last night without Dunn and Rios was the quality of at bats by our hitters. Even Teahen hit a couple of deep fly balls.

QUOTE (bmags @ Jun 8, 2011 -> 02:01 PM) Hahahahaha Last night was a turrible hawk night. Also hearing his draft philosophies. Good to know I wasn't the only person who threw up in their mouth hearing him praise pitchers drafted in the middle rounds because that means they had to fight to get there.

6/7 Game Thread - SOX vs Mariners - 7:10pm CDT - CSN+
fathom replied to knightni's topic in 2011 Season in Review
Ozzie managed a great game tonight, by the way. I love the hit and run with Morel, as he's a machine with regards to hitting it to the right side. -
Please, please let this be the thing that makes Ozzie crack and say something he shouldn't!
-
QUOTE (Leonard Zelig @ Jun 8, 2011 -> 04:54 AM) Was anybody fired the last 2 times he was drafted? Probably not, but he also wasn't the team's first pick. You cannot pick a player in the spot we were in without knowing you can lock him up fairly easily. With this draft by the Sox being extremely underwhelming, that would really be frustrating for everyone.

Can't believe I was watching an NBA Finals game with how terrible both teams played in the 4th. Oh, and my biggest pet peeve in sports is why don't they show how many fouls each team has on the main TV scoreboard? They show everything else on the screen, yet they can't show a running count of the foul situation?

QUOTE (JoeCoolMan24 @ Jun 7, 2011 -> 10:28 PM) So how many people here are hoping that Walker does NOT sign, and goes to Utah instead? If that happens, someone better be fired.
