QUOTE (SoxAce @ Jun 8, 2010 -> 05:09 PM) This. Our position players are also very poor. Other than Carter (and I guess Poreda), we really didn't lose much in the Peavy deal. You know that KW's philosophy though is to draft as many college pitchers as possible in order to move them through the system quickly and use them as trade bait quite often. I'm not too concerned about drafting hitters, as our development of hitters is comically bad.

QUOTE (pktmotion @ Jun 8, 2010 -> 05:04 PM) We desperately needed it though. Behind Hudson it looks pretty bleak. Gotta think we go offense with the #114. Maybe Hunter Morris. Yep, after the Peavy trade, they're doing what they have to do in order to try and get more pitching into the system.

QUOTE (RockRaines @ Jun 8, 2010 -> 04:59 PM) SO a top 50 guy picked there is picked because he is cheap, or because he has value? I get the impression you are throwing s*** against the wall hoping it will stick. Some people get these false hopes that all of a sudden, the Sox are going to pick guys that have ridiculous overslot commands, forgetting our team's philosophy as well as JR's relationship with Bud.

Pretty nice numbers for Reed this past season

QUOTE (IowaSoxFan @ Jun 8, 2010 -> 04:56 PM) Thats my point, we go for the guys who will sign for cheap again over the guys that add value to the system. This is a fine philosophy if you are saving the money to make a splash elsewhere which remains to be seen. But we're not that way, and never going to be under this owner/GM/etc. It's something you have to deal with, and just hope they do the best with the philosophy that they have.

QUOTE (IowaSoxFan @ Jun 8, 2010 -> 04:49 PM) Its not about Wilson as much as it is about improving, a bullpen guy isnt worth a second round pick. We tried that with Drew O'Neill who is still toiling away. I like the pick of Sale, though his delivery makes me a little apprehensive, but Petricka is not a guy that is going to improve the depth of the organization significantly. Minor league bullpen guys do not hold a lot of value when trying to improve a major league club. Petricka is a top 50 talent who should sign for cheap. The reaction on here was like we just took a short pitcher from Southern Arkansas.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jun 8, 2010 -> 04:50 PM) So who are the top players left, besides Wilson? Also where is the best place to get live updates on the picks? MLB Draft Tracker A.J. Cole is highest guy left

QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Jun 8, 2010 -> 05:42 PM) I had no idea the Rays had so many picks. That's what sucks when Tampa and Boston have a lot of picks...they take a lot of the good players!
-
Cardinals having a strong draft as well.
-
QUOTE (IowaSoxFan @ Jun 8, 2010 -> 05:30 PM) Sox go for signability over talent while the other teams in the division do the opposite. Cleveland, KC and Detroit take Washington, Eibner and Castellanos and we get a bullpen guy. I'm having a hard time complaining about our draft so far. We didn't take Wilson, big deal! Neither has every other team right now, which makes me think he's made it obvious he won't be signing anywhere.
-
QUOTE (Capn12 @ Jun 8, 2010 -> 05:30 PM) OK those that know more than me, when is our next pick? Not sure what exact pick it is, but my prediction is either Derek Dietrich or Leon Landry
-
Petricka's numbers at ISU weren't great, as his WHIP was near 1.50. Seems like a future reliever.
-
Power arm in Petricka, hard to argue about a 98 mph fastball.
-
Oakland's having a very good draft. Yordy Cabrera was high up on the Sox draft board.
-
Boston's draft is pretty unreal
-
Damn, there goes Eibner.
-
Good for the Pirates!
-
Rumor is the Ozney will be the 2nd round pick (not really, but this worked well for the first round!)
-
Yordy is a name that the Sox were supposedly interested in, IIRC
-
QUOTE (soxfan890 @ Jun 8, 2010 -> 04:13 AM) 4. Bring up and play some of these younger guys (Flowers, Morel, Danks, Hudson). Morel and Danks are so far away from being Major Leaguers, it's not even funny.
-
QUOTE (greg775 @ Jun 8, 2010 -> 04:10 AM) Me. You think Mark Buehrle is finished? You think he won't kick ass with the Cardinals? With the right NL team, I think he can be a below 4 ERA pitcher. In the AL Central, these hitters have seen him just far too much.
-
QUOTE (Kenny Hates Prospects @ Jun 8, 2010 -> 04:10 AM) And I think if Mark were traded it would just be a salary dump that would piss off most of the non-SoxTalk/WSI/internet fans pretty severely. And then let's say the Hawks win the Cup and LBJ comes to Chicago. Welcome back, 1998 Chicago White Sox. We missed you. They're not at that level already with Buehrle? If anything, an outing like Sunday's makes it easier to unload him.
-
QUOTE (greg775 @ Jun 8, 2010 -> 04:06 AM) The radical fringe of the internet is different from other brands of fans. Remember that. If they trade Mark, I'd hope they could get a good deal, but after our most recent round of deals I have no more confidence In KW and Oz's judge of talent. I hope he stays. But I'd hope if we deal him we get a lot back. He's going to pitch well again. You can bank that (unless he gets hurt). Says?

Cardinals pitched two of their possible starting rotation replacements tonight, and they gave up 10 runs in 5 innings.

QUOTE (SoxAce @ Jun 8, 2010 -> 03:46 AM) Like I said in the other thread, if Allie falls... I hope we draft him. If not, I'll be fine with Washington or Workman and a high upside guy like Blair in the third or a project like Morris. Blair was picked by Cards. I'd love for Sox to take Washington or Allie or Wilson, but I can't see that happening.
