QUOTE (DirtySox @ Jun 7, 2010 -> 11:01 PM) I have a feeling a few desirable players will slip in the range of the Sox, but they will end up bypassing them anyways. 100% agree...only hope is that Keith Law seems pretty sure Grandal is our main target. If we end up taking an extremely cheap player over some of these talented college players that will be available, it will make me hate this past offseason even more where we just wasted money it seems.

QUOTE (danman31 @ Jun 7, 2010 -> 09:49 PM) If Grandal slips to the Sox that would be spectacular, but I really doubt that happens. No chance he gets past 5

QUOTE (Ozzie Ball @ Jun 7, 2010 -> 09:42 PM) Keith Law brings up another possible shocker with Chance Ruffin linked to the Reds at #12. wouldn't shock me, as they'd go with the immediate fix to their bullpen. Dusty's not the most patient of fellas.

I really hope we can look back at this thread in 3 years and make fun of how wrong we were with saying we didn't like the pick of Loux or Workman. With that said, I also want to tell myself in 3 years that I really need to stop watching reality shows on MTV.

Joe Cowley says our season is over: do you agree?

QUOTE (scenario @ Jun 7, 2010 -> 09:36 PM) I understand what you're saying. The pitching has been a disappointment... yes. That was not expected. But I just don't understand why we chose to accept offensive mediocrity (at best) in the first place. We have THE lowest team batting average in the American League. We're near the bottom in OBP. We're 9th in SLG. All despite the fact that everyone is healthy. The sad part is that this (to me) is not a surprise... which is what I find so frustrating about the design of this years team. You shouldn't spend $100M and expect to have a mediocre (at best) offensive team. That's just not acceptable IMO. AWESOME POST! No excuse for such a high payroll to go into a season needing career years to even think about competing. -
John Manuel had this to say about Loux: Reports of velocity up to 96 mph, but he has fringy secondary stuff and medical issues. Had elbow issue last year, and there are whispers of other medical problems.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jun 7, 2010 -> 08:46 PM) I think it's only a matter of time before things snap back into place for Mark. He's going through the Hoffman issue right now of not enough separation between fastball and change-up.

QUOTE (DBAHO @ Jun 7, 2010 -> 08:45 PM) I just think that hitters have seen enough of Buehrle in the AL for so long and when his stuff isn't 100% like it is now, he's going to struggle. I could see him going to St. Louis and really pitching well from the get go though. Absolutely, couldn't agree more
-
QUOTE (jamesdiego @ Jun 7, 2010 -> 08:38 PM) Maybe in order to go to the Cards Buehrle would waive his player option if asked. But I highly doubt it. I don't see anyone even thinking about trading for him. I think Buehrle would be willing to try and make things work out with the Cardinals as well. Of all players, he's the person that we need to be trying to trade. I can't see many people complaining about it if we did deal him, especially given his recent performances.
-
Mets aren't going to take another lefty starter, as they have 3 already and that's not even counting Oliver Perez. Giants, IMO, are the best fit for Buehrle, even though Cardinals are the ideal candidate but don't have the money/prospects.

I've had a feeling for a while Brentz will go a lot higher than expected, kinda like the LaPorta of this draft.

QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Jun 7, 2010 -> 08:17 PM) This argument again? The same one I see used for Peavy? Let's not be ridiculous. A pitcher changes leagues and his ERA changes by 2 or 3 full points, and you seriously think that's because of the league change? If the AL was that much better, they'd win 95% of the interleague games, not 53% of them. The AL is better, but not even close to enough to solely justify Peavy's downfall or Silva's renaissance. Completely disagree with you

QUOTE (whitesoxfan101 @ Jun 7, 2010 -> 08:09 PM) In regards to part 1, are you serious? He's been a terrible offensive player since May 1st. A hot April doesn't=significant offensive force. I can't even believe I'm having this argument about a guy that really has been a bad offensive player since 2006 ended. Jones has been worthless since his start, so much so that the Sox are extremely frustrated with his stubborness to make adjusments. No doubt in my mind he'll be traded away for virtually nothing, probably as soon as he hits #400. -
QUOTE (Kalapse @ Jun 7, 2010 -> 07:53 PM) That was his first love, baseball was distant second. Ha, never heard about that. The Sox version of Rashaan Salaam.
-
QUOTE (Soxbadger @ Jun 7, 2010 -> 07:51 PM) Dan Gilbert is a MSU alum (fwiw) and people on the Red Cedar Board (MSU fan site) seem to think that the Cav job could actually tempt Izzo. I think it will also, and I think it will help them with LeBron...even though the Bulls seem to be the huge favorites right now.
-
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jun 7, 2010 -> 07:46 PM) The great thing about being a college coach is that your players are gone in three years max. Unless they tear their achilles
-
QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Jun 7, 2010 -> 06:21 PM) Hasnt Izzo already been offered and turned down some NBA jobs that would be considered much better than the Cavs? I swear he has been courted multiple times and just doesnt want to give up his cozy spot at Mich St Yes, but that was before the turmoil that went on in East Lansing last season.
-
QUOTE (SHIPPS @ Jun 7, 2010 -> 06:57 PM) Who will be the veteran leadership to lead this team to a title this year!....... I am so confused. Harold Baines
-
QUOTE (RockRaines @ Jun 7, 2010 -> 05:21 PM) I dont want to unload Peavy or Thornton anyway. You wouldn't take him if someone took on his entire contract?
-
QUOTE (Athomeboy_2000 @ Jun 7, 2010 -> 05:48 PM) Tom Izzo doesnt strike me as a "we're trying to keep LeBron here" move. So, their move to keep LeBron and go for a title is hiring a coach with NO NBA coaching experience. riighht.... Disagree, Izzo is one of the most liked individuals in all of sports. I don't think LeBron really cares about how many titles his coach has won.
-
Well, Izzo does have experience with his players have affairs with girlfriends/family members.
-
Cy Silva at it again. We'll see him this weekend. Never in a million years did I think he'd be an All-Star.
-
QUOTE (docsox24 @ Jun 7, 2010 -> 06:35 PM) yes they are filming tonight for the show doc, any guesses as to who we take?

I'd love the Brentz pick, as he could be a real impact player. Kvasnicka would be a bad pick, as he's not top 15 material and we'd be drafting for need instead of talent, which is a big no-no.
