  1. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ May 18, 2010 -> 07:03 PM) No, because you expect him to slow down from that ridiculous early season home run pace, but you don't expect any other GM's around baseball to expect that. You don't think his value is higher now than it would be in mid-June if he hits 4 homers in the next month?
  2. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ May 18, 2010 -> 06:58 PM) You learn a new term every day on Soxtalk. Mike Tyson!
  3. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ May 18, 2010 -> 06:58 PM) You guys really don't respect GM's around baseball do you? Cause I think he's going to slow down on what was a ridiculous home run pace? I think a lot of people were believing that he's completely healthy (which he isn't) this season and having a strong FA season.
  4. QUOTE (docsox24 @ May 18, 2010 -> 06:57 PM) I hope I am wrong but I think Jones is going to fade into Bolivian. I see him ending up around .240 with 20+ homers. I completely agree, but it's not like we'd get much if we traded him anyways.
  5. PK and Jones both have one homer each in the last 10 games or so. Not going to win many games with them fading off from their hot start. I really feel like now is the time to trade Konerko if you want to maximize his value. The league is going to catch up to him power wise by the early June likely.
  6. QUOTE (The Ginger Kid @ May 18, 2010 -> 06:47 PM) i sincerely hope that Alexi is learning something from Vizquel, because i see no other point to him being on the team. He has 6 hits, and 5 of them are classified as being "shallow" according to yahoo.
  7. Boesch has 14 extra base hits in 72 ABs. Is he even a prospect?
  8. QUOTE (jamesdiego @ May 18, 2010 -> 06:24 PM) Any kind of change can only be a good thing. What can it really hurt to try to spark the club before Kenny starts trading players away? EXACTLY!
  9. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ May 18, 2010 -> 06:29 PM) Do you really think that firing Greg Walker fixes this team? Not at all, but it's a step in the right direction towards holding people accountable. It's been far too long.
  10. Question: would you rather our team have an offensive outburst and score 6 or 7 runs to save Greg Walker's job, or would you rather the offense continue to slump this week and see a change made?
  11. QUOTE (The Ginger Kid @ May 18, 2010 -> 06:22 PM) Damon must be thanking his lucky stars that he didn't sign with the Sox Why, he would have been traded back to his beloved Yankees in a few weeks then?
  12. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ May 18, 2010 -> 05:02 PM) Am I the only one who remembers the early season slumps that left JD and Konerko hitting .200 around the end of May? You mean Jermaine Dead? That's why I said meeting Dye and Iguchi's final numbers.
  13. QUOTE (docsox24 @ May 18, 2010 -> 05:56 PM) I think the 2005 team was better at every position besides CF than this team. DH and 1b are probably a wash. I would have to agree, as it's not likely Quentin and Beckham will match Dye/Iguchi's numbers even if they start to put things together.
  14. QUOTE (jeffro2525 @ May 18, 2010 -> 04:53 PM) God...how could this season get any worse? Well, he could need surgery, which would really decimate this team heading into next year.
  15. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ May 18, 2010 -> 05:47 PM) http://mlb.mlb.com/news/article.jsp?ymd=20...sp&c_id=mlb Anyone for trading our entire minor league system (minus T. Thompson, Mitchell, Hudson, Viciedo and Flowers) for Hanley Ramirez? They just signed him to an extension, he's going nowhere. And if he was available, you could trade that group of less than top-notch prospects for him also.
  16. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ May 18, 2010 -> 04:49 PM) Tendon inflammation has Matt Thornton out of this game but not on the DL quite yet... Oh boy, that's not good at all! Hopefully the MRI showed this was all.
  17. Biggest difference between 2005 and this team is that I feel like this team has lost more games when tied or leading heading into the 7th inning than the 2005 team did all season. Having one of the greatest bullpens ever makes any manager look good and hides the offensive struggles a team might have.
  18. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ May 18, 2010 -> 04:48 PM) While I'd agree that the effect of a hitting coach (positive or negative) is often overstated, I think this is as clear a case as you can get to fire one (barring violent crime). This team has underachieved offensively for years, has been piss-poor situationally, and its painfully clear they are not prepared for pitchers they haven't already seen. Now, that blame may ALSO fall on the scouting staff or others, which is why the best move is probably to fire everyone in that chain, not just Walker. But honestly, I don't see how it could be more clear that a change in that area of the staff is needed. Well said, as I know you're one of the last people to jump on the fire bandwagon for anyone.
  19. You fire Walker because of the struggles of our players adjusting to the league adjusting to them (ie: Fields, Beckham, Quentin). If Walker's going to say he can't help veterans, then who is he really helping? Greg Walker might be the greatest hitting coach ever, but obviously something isn't working with the Sox offense. There's no harm in trying something different. Firing a hitting coach and hoping someone new can help our struggling hitters is a lot more efficient than having to get rid of guys like Quentin.
  20. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ May 18, 2010 -> 03:35 PM) A guy I happen to like, if we go the college pitcher route, is Matt Harvey. Another guy I like a lot and who could fit in nicely as a potential top of the order hitter for the Sox is Gary Brown. He's a phenomenal athlete (very fast, great defensively) and has a real nice short stroke. He won't hit for much, if any power though, but he's projected to go late 1st to the early 2nd. Broke his finger so who knows if that impacts his draft stock. He had been climbing up draft boards. Nice fit, imo. I still like Paxton if we opt for a lefty and than of course I like Ranaudo a lot. Big arm, nice build, and I'm willing to take the gamble. Isn't Harvey a Boras client?
  21. I'd love to get Brentz, seems like one of those kids who will hit no matter where he's at.
  22. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ May 18, 2010 -> 03:13 PM) He seems like the kind of guy that gives a little extra when things are going really well for a team and dogs it a bit otherwise. Absolutely, and it even seems that way from inning to inning.
  23. QUOTE (BaseballNick @ May 18, 2010 -> 03:09 PM) If they go with a pitcher, then it sounds like Alex Wimmers is their guy. He's a very safe pick. Projects to go mid to late 1st round, with #3 starter kind of stuff (so he'll be on the board when the Sox pick). Low 90s fastball, nice curve, and decent change-up. He's pitched well for Ohio State this year. I don't trust Big 10 pitchers. And taking guys with that type of stuff hasn't really worked out for the Sox.
