QUOTE (AWhiteSoxinNJ @ Jul 26, 2009 -> 10:08 PM) Thome will be back. I think that's a mistake, and the only way I'd like to see him back is if he takes a 4 million dollar contract or so.
-
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jul 26, 2009 -> 09:29 PM) Didn't the Pirates (admittedly with a better roster) play them tough earlier this season? Not that I can recall. I think Cubs are 4-2 against them this year, and Pirates lineup will only get weaker in the next week.
-
QUOTE (maggsmaggs @ Jul 26, 2009 -> 09:24 PM) When the actually have to face real teams and not one of the worst teams ever (nationals) and another cellar dwellar, they will come back to Earth. At least the Stros are decent (for the NL at least). It will be funny if Astros play them tougher this week without Mr. Cub, Lance Berkman

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jul 26, 2009 -> 09:25 PM) Which of the NL Central teams has the toughest schedule down the stretch? Cubs have a ton of games remaining against their AAA squad, the Pirates. They still have road games at Dodgers, Giants, Rockies, Mets (hopefully healthy), and Marlins.

QUOTE (SHIPPS @ Jul 26, 2009 -> 10:21 PM) Baseball situations change so much from day to day who cares WTF happened in a three day period. When it's against the team you're tied with coming into the weekend, I think it means an awful lot. Tonight's game is so huge for numerous reasons.
-
QUOTE (The Ginger Kid @ Jul 26, 2009 -> 07:37 PM) win and salvage a shred of dignity from this abysmal effort. Sadly, this has the feeling of a 7 game losing streak, maybe more. Better to happen now than in 10 days.
-
Hell, if Lee and Martinez are going to get this much, tell KW to put Buehrle and Konerko on the f'n market.
-
Please don't let this happen. Kershaw is looking like one of the best pitchers for the next 10 years.
-
It's ridiculous the amount of umpiring calls the Cubs have received over the last few months. Just a terrible weekend of baseball though, as the Cubs are now in first place and the Sox are in meltdown mode.

How much longer will Guillen stay with Jenks?
fathom replied to caulfield12's topic in Pale Hose Talk
The same thing is happening to him that happened to Gavin earlier in the year. He's throwing his fastball too much. Just like with Gavin, their only plus pitch now (since he's lost so much velocity) is the curve. I would be so much less pissed if Jenks got hurt by Granderson on the curve. For the love of Quentin circa 2008, I struck out Granderson with a curve. -
QUOTE (chw42 @ Jul 26, 2009 -> 12:30 AM) And yet, we've smashed the ball right at people. This is what happens when you have a team of machos vs. a team of little guys in baseball. The little guys don't have to be at their best to win. The machos do. We didn't hit anything hard after the 6th inning or so. Basically the story of our season.

QUOTE (MexSoxFan#1 @ Jul 26, 2009 -> 12:28 AM) outclassed by a team that's not even that good and this isn't even a rip on Ozzie as much as it's praise on Leyland, but he's managed a hell of a series so far.
-
QUOTE (DanksFan @ Jul 26, 2009 -> 12:28 AM) Right now it's pretty much like "everyone on this team sucks ass except for Buehrle and Wise. And Josh Fields, too." oh Wise sucks, don't worry. One catch in a game where we were up 5-0 doesn't mean his .150 or so OBP over the last few weeks makes him any better
-
QUOTE (scotty22hotty @ Jul 25, 2009 -> 11:26 PM) there goes our chances for a blockbuster trade thankfully...I have no faith in KW with trades right now. I would hate to see him go all in, only to put the Sox in position to be the 3rd or 4th best team in the AL.
-
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jul 25, 2009 -> 11:25 PM) Seriously, did the Tigers hit a ball hard all day? not that I can recall
-
KW....do not give up Flowers, Danks, or Hudson PLEASE!
-
QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jul 25, 2009 -> 11:23 PM) What a swing of emotions over the course of four games...I was thinking we were just going to take off as a team like in 2003, but that was a pipedream to think this team could replicate the 2nd half of 2003 or that these Tigers are as vulnerable as those Royals were. this weekend set up horribly for the Sox it seemed like. At least Danks is ok.
-
wow, that was quick...not much more else to say. what a f***ing choke job this weekend so far
-
Who would have thought that the Tigers would be the team with the better rotation and better bullpen, while we could end up being the better hitting team?
-
QUOTE (southsideirish71 @ Jul 25, 2009 -> 11:22 PM) Basically we have dropped out pants and inserted our head for 3 games here. This is something we used to do with the Twins. Kick the ball around, no hitting, and late inning struggles by the pen. Hopefully we keep on the plan to transform this team in the offseason. And absolutely no hitting with RISP
-
QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jul 25, 2009 -> 11:20 PM) What are the odds of the Sox recovering from a 4 game sweep, if it were to happen? Feels like the entire season is on the line, but if Jenks can't be the closer anymore...it's pretty much history for us anyway. The only hope is that the Twins have been equally worse in recent days, if not more abysmal. With games at Minnesota and then home vs the Yankees, there's a very legitimate possibility that we're sellers by the deadline.
-
our relievers just are not getting the job done. I hate when it feels like your team is never going to win another game.
-
Hanging sliders, here we come. Can someone go kidnap Dan Hudson so KW won't even consider trading him?
-
QUOTE (Melissa1334 @ Jul 26, 2009 -> 12:16 AM) atleast ur putting the blame on them and not ozzie(like that time in minn when thornton threw a 2-0 fb to mauer) you mean pitching to Mauer with an open base? That was extremely stupid also. This one is all on AJP though.
-
QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Jul 26, 2009 -> 12:15 AM) What a great idea to get an equally slow guy in to run for Paulie. on the bright side, at least we don't have to watch him bat anymore today.
