QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ May 24, 2009 -> 01:14 AM) Fields and AJ would be wise to do the same. It's not like the pitches are that good half of the time either. I'm fine with Fields doing it, as he's struggled when down in the count this season.
-
Quentin has got to stop swinging at the first pitch. He's making himself too easy of an out. It was amazing to see last night how far over towards center the RF was for the Pirates.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ May 23, 2009 -> 11:48 PM) Actual good swings or good swings as compared to the normal Fields/Getz swing? No, they both did what they were supposed to do. Just hit it right at people. Ohlendorf has nothing on his pitches, and he's up in the zone with his sinker. This team continues to be one of the worst scoring teams in the first 3 innings of a game I've ever seen.
-
Some bad luck this inning on good swings by Getz and Fields.

IU is in the finals of the Big 10 tournament, and Arnett pitched on Wednesday. The games are televised on the Big 10 Network, so if he's pitching in a game, please update this thread.

After my initial review of the Baseball America 2009 Draft Preview, I feel like the Sox will take Jared Mitchell with their first pick. KW's comments about taking a speedy outfielder (potential leadoff) and the comparison to Carl Crawford might be too much for KW to ignore.

QUOTE (witesoxfan @ May 23, 2009 -> 04:47 AM) Will someone please point out the quote that says "I, Jake Peavy, rejected the trade to the Chicago White Sox because they play in the AL and I will not play in the AL because I have a small pair of testicles" or something of the ilk? He turned the trade down mainly because the final year of his deal wasn't guaranteed, it's as simple as that. Just based off of his actions this offseason, when he wasn't interested in going to Boston or Yankees but was begging to get traded to the Cubs or the Braves.
-
That would have been a worse case scenario if the Cubs came back to win that game. Peavy pitched well, but Cubs are struggling offensively and Peavy stranged a lot of runners in the first few innings.

QUOTE (MexSoxFan#1 @ May 23, 2009 -> 05:17 AM) Is James the best player in the NBA today?Do we need to see a Kobe and James Finals to decide it?Or the fact that James won the MVP decided it...I still think Kobe has the edge because I think his overall offensive game is more complete and a better defender though James is a better ball distributor.I also put Wade in the debate but he is out of the playoffs so I'm focusing on these two. I've seen both play a lot, and LeBron is clearly the better player this year. I'd say that Wade was better than Kobe this year.
-
Congrats LeBron, haven't seen a buzzer beater like that in a long time.

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ May 23, 2009 -> 04:09 AM) His AB quality is starting to drop. Yeah, he's had good ABs compared to some of the rest of the jabronis, but there's no way he should be batting 2nd. It's getting scary with Quentin. He's just rolling over everything.

If Fields has another bad week, Beckham's going to be playing 3rd base in Chicago come June.

Gotta love the NL so far. Extremely boring game to be at, but no Sox win is a waste! Gavin was excellent, as the Pirates were looking silly on his curve. Alexei continues to put good swings on the ball, while Quentin looks absolutely lost. CQ, my buddy....right field isn't an automatic out. Pods also has a much better swing now with his little foot adjustment, but he needs to just stay on the base and not continue to be an easy out on the bases.
-
Going to the game tonight...I've seen Quentin play 5 times, and he's homered each time. Sox are 1-0 with Gavin on the mound when I've been there, so hopefully they make it 2 and 0. This feels like a big game, as we need to get some momentum going this series or we could be looking at a road trip that could push us into a double digit deficit behind the Tigers.

QUOTE (ptatc @ May 22, 2009 -> 09:24 PM) Always a good idea with long term heel pain. You can adjust the shoes and use anti-inflammatories all you want but rest is the only thing that willturly get it healed. You saw it was plantar fascitis, right?

QUOTE (kapkomet @ May 22, 2009 -> 09:04 PM) What the hell happened to fathom? For the first time in a decade or so, I feel like we have some difference makers in our farm system. We also should have some payroll flexibility, so that's why it's so important for Gavin, Alexei, and Quentin to come around.
-
QUOTE (Tony82087 @ May 22, 2009 -> 09:13 PM) Q is at DH today. Good to see him back. BTW, not a lot of talk about Quentin's injury on here yesterday. If the Sox fall 12-15 games out of it by July, it might be wise to shut him down for an extended period.
-
Hopefully we'll see an outfield of Quentin, Anderson, and Dye. I could go without seeing Pods get picked off again.
-
I saw the press conference, and I couldn't believe how old Paxson looked. I hope his health is ok, because he looks like a different person than he did a few months ago.

QUOTE (CanOfCorn @ May 22, 2009 -> 06:37 PM) And the White Sox future is much better than the Pads. With some good signings this offseason and a good trade or two, the Sox can easily reach the upper echelon of MLB teams real soon. It will be nice if that LF of ours can remind us why he would have won the MVP last season.
-
QUOTE (CanOfCorn @ May 22, 2009 -> 07:31 PM) Which part? The part where he doesn't understand or the part where he says KW is a fighter. The one thing I always said about Kenny is that as a fan, I can't complain about him sitting on his hands. He's always trying to make the team better. Key word: trying. The part where he talks about an executive saying he didn't understand it, as we set ourselves up to go young and cheap and then seemed to go against that with this deal. Like I said yesterday, I think yesterday's effort by KW was a great sign for things to come.
-
QUOTE (Dick Allen @ May 22, 2009 -> 07:31 PM) Verducci makes it look like the Sox may actually be worse than the Padres. Maybe they are. This year, it's possible they have similar records. However, the Padres are awful. They have no pitching depth, and their offense is abysmal besides Gonzalez.
-
I actually agree with what Heyman said about the White Sox in his article.
-
I've said this before, but a recent BA podcast ranked the Barons as the 2nd most exciting minor league team in all of baseball.
-
The bigger question is what team is Peavy rooting for?
