Rick Ankiel...
QUOTE (rangercal @ Jun 20, 2009 -> 04:17 AM) The cliff notes of points in this thread on why we should NOT trade for Ankiel would be pretty pathetic. Why can't we just say that he's a Boras client with an expiring contract who hasn't been very good this season?

Official Buyer or Seller Thread
With Jose losing his forkball tonight, I would again pray that we can trade Jose while he still has some value. And after watching Looper and Parra pitch recently, the Brewers would love to add Jose.

QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Jun 20, 2009 -> 02:01 AM) Paulie belted a hard FB, that alone should tell us he's okay to turn and rip a pitch. Last year when he was in his funk he'd have had no shot at hitting that type of pitch (even though it was a cookie the velocity would have killed his thumb). I think it's more mental with him, and that he has to convince himself he can turn on an inside fastball.

QUOTE (chw42 @ Jun 20, 2009 -> 02:58 AM) Arroyo is the worst of the three starters we're gonna face. We're SCREWED. Look at this lineup we have right now. You can't expect it to do much damage against a RHP, especially with Dye injured and PK's ability in doubt. I'm sure Arroyo got excited when he saw we had TWO lefties in the lineup tonight.

QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Jun 20, 2009 -> 01:56 AM) I assume that is sarcasm? Or was the pitch he hit for a grand slam not a FB? of course

Made good contact...sure seems like our offense will get dominated this series by the 3 Reds starters.

Swing hard and hope you hit it Slayer.

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jun 20, 2009 -> 02:53 AM) A myth. He throws harder than Cotts, for sure, but 91-95 is what we should really expect I think, sometimes at 96, with accurate guns. Joins the club with Felix Diaz, Jon Adkins and Nick Masset with pitchers overhyped for having dominating stuff at the minors or in winter ball or wherever that mysteriously disappears at the MLB level. Cooper preaches control over velocity. It works for some, not for others. I've seen Masset and MacDougal throw harder this year on other teams than they ever did for the Sox.

QUOTE (Tony82087 @ Jun 20, 2009 -> 02:53 AM) It's all about taking the calculated risk. Right now, the best people to judge Poreda and his future are the Sox. We have seen him for what 3 innings? While it's way too early to be casting judgments on a guy making his 2nd career big league appearance, it speaks volume the Sox best pitching prospect was already traded once this season. There is no reason to think if someone like Oswalt is made available, Poreda will be the first one to go. Don't you mean there is plenty of reason to think that?

QUOTE (CaliSoxFanViaSWside @ Jun 20, 2009 -> 02:53 AM) Another bogus call by the HP ump. Looked good to me, just a great pitch.

Never seen him hit a first pitch fastball off of a reliever like that.

QUOTE (Melissa1334 @ Jun 20, 2009 -> 02:47 AM) so basically trade him now, that his value is at his highest? Yep, and I believe KW feels the same. It just doesn't seem like he'd ever be able to get past 5 innings without throwing 100 pitches.

QUOTE (Tony82087 @ Jun 20, 2009 -> 01:45 AM) Really nice. The OF is a little much with Ads EVERYWHERE(sort of looks like a minor league OF) but the ballpark itself is fantastic. Yeah, I don't like that outfield from left-center to right-center. It's like they ran out of ideas or money to continue building out there.

QUOTE (Tony82087 @ Jun 20, 2009 -> 02:42 AM) I was at the Brewers game on Friday and he was hitting 96 on the gun in the park, just FWIW. That's good...how did you like Miller Park? Haven't been there, but heard great things.

6/19 Sox @ Cin - 6:10pm CDT - CSN
So yeah, after watching 1 1/2 batters, I stand by my belief that Poreda's best possibility to help the Sox is as trade bait. He reminds me so much of Neal Cotts.

First time watching Poreda live. Where is the big heater? Being clocked at 90 mph.

QUOTE (greg775 @ Jun 20, 2009 -> 02:37 AM) What's our record vs. the NL? Isn't it sub .500? 5-4 if we lose this (and that's with most of our best players banged up or out)

QUOTE (greg775 @ Jun 20, 2009 -> 01:34 AM) I love the way we always mock the NL or say certain pitchers will thrive in the NL when we have not exactly played well against the NL this season. Our starting pitching has dominated the NL so far. ERA has to be near 1.25 against NL teams from our starters.

Maybe we'll see Poreda in the 8th.

What's sickening is that Ozzie is making Dusty look like a real good manager tonight. Played right into the Reds plans by having two straight lefties for Rhodes to face.

QUOTE (tommy @ Jun 20, 2009 -> 01:29 AM) Hawk keeps on calling it the best bullpen in American League, just like Joe Morgan last year. This was the time last year where our bullpen went to hell.

Our relievers are really struggling for the past 2 weeks or so. Everyone's giving up runs it seems.

6/19 Games
There's no doubt in my mind we're going to see Allen up with the big league club sooner rather than later (due to injury or trade).

QUOTE (greg775 @ Jun 20, 2009 -> 02:23 AM) I don't hate him. I'm sick of nobody on our team getting a clutch hit, including him. He had a clutch hit yesterday against one of the toughest pitchers in baseball to hit. He also gave us a shot to win last Sunday's game with a clutch hit.
