Triumph will be on tomorrow night.
  2. I wonder if he won't get traded to the Reds. There was talk a while back that Dusty was interested in him. I think he'd be a great acquisition for some team. I would not be surprised if the Tigers made an aggressive move to get Holliday or possibly Jeremy Hermida.
  3. QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ Jun 19, 2009 -> 04:22 AM) Homer Bailey has added a splitter to his repertoire and is now throwing 97 with his two-seamer. Would you care to admit you're wrong now? How come every time Bailey's promoted, his fastball is a good 5-6 mph slower than is being reported in the minors? He's just an overhyped prospect that might need a change of scenery, and considering how much it would cost to get him, I hope it's not in Chicago.
  4. It's the International League. Wes Whisler dominated that league.
  5. QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ Jun 19, 2009 -> 03:09 AM) You'd be surprised at the number of people who've given up on him. It's not out of the question to buy low for a guy who dominates the minors, but can't get over the major league hump. It's eerily similar to the Gavin Floyd situation. His stuff sucks now. 91 mph and no command of offspeed pitches. Rumors that he was using PEDs while he was in high school also (people would be shocked at how many high schoolers fall into this category).
  6. BTW, might be time to promote Kroeger and send down Poreda or Gobble.
  7. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jun 19, 2009 -> 02:44 AM) So AJ to RF then? Smartass. Going to be quite the speedy, yet powerless lineup tomorrow. Likely be Pods-7 Ramirez-6 Konerko-3 Wise-9 Castro-2 Anderson-8 Getz-4 Beckham-6
  8. According to Chicagosports.com, Dye likely to sit tomorrow and Castro to start at catcher.
  9. QUOTE (maggsmaggs @ Jun 17, 2009 -> 06:21 PM) And a 61st round pick. That is what amazes me even more that so many people missed on him. Which is why some of the recent accusations about Piazza potentially ruin such a great story.
  10. BTW, thanks for creating this thread to get our mind off of today's actions.
  11. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jun 19, 2009 -> 12:46 AM) And they aren't going to pay it. If we pick up a million or so, a team like the Brewers would or Phillies would jump at the chance.
  12. QUOTE (Tony82087 @ Jun 19, 2009 -> 12:39 AM) It would be awesome just because he is still the coolest player in baseball, but from a baseball standpoint, I probably pass. And we could finally present him with his World Series ring for 2005 for contributions to the Sox. I still tear up at the ceremonies for Tony Graffanino and Dimitri Young.
  13. Here's the ironic thing...we actually have to go out and get some more power on our club. I have huge doubts about PK ever hitting over 25 homers again.
  14. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jun 19, 2009 -> 12:37 AM) I mean as a trade-bait piece right now. You know I'm on board for that. I still think Contreras is an ultimate sell high guy. All it takes is one bad performance, and his stock is back to zero.
  15. For some reason, I have a feeling Vlad will be our DH next season. Last time I said something like this, it was about Carlos Pena being our 1B in 2006. Oops!
  16. Oh, and don't discount the idea of Quentin being our DH next year, especially if we bring back Dye and go after someone like Crawford or Chone.
  17. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jun 19, 2009 -> 12:17 AM) Wonder if anyone would be interested in Podsednik if he keeps hitting like this. If you do bring him back, just don't give him a contract extension during the year. One leg injury, and we know what happens with him. I'd really rather not though bring him back with the idea of making him our leadoff hitter.
  18. How about finding a RF for next year, and then basically narrowing down between Dye and Thome who you want to play DH next season?
  19. QUOTE (GreatScott82 @ Jun 18, 2009 -> 10:57 PM) I agree with finding a leadoff hitter. But Sanchez would be the perfect 2 hole hitter for the next year and a half. Honestly i would much rather have him over Figgins and it would be for a much shorter term. You could try and aqcuire your leadoff hitter this winter. Where in the hell would Sanchez play? We have a perfect #2 hitter on our team, and his name is Gordon Beckham.
  20. BTW, I would say that Contreras needs to be traded last Saturday. I'd also like to see the Sox acquire a solid righty bullpen arm that will be here next year.
  21. The last thing we need to do is acquire an infielder. I really think finding a leadoff hitter for next year would be the best acquisition, but that won't happen with Pods on the team right now.
  22. QUOTE (rangercal @ Jun 18, 2009 -> 11:16 PM) So do you suggest trading Thome,Konerko,Aj and JD for .50 on the dollar? I would do anything I can to get rid of Konerko and his salary. With his thumb issues and seemingly diminished bat speed, he's not going to put up the power necessary to be making as much as he is.
  23. QUOTE (South Side Fireworks Man @ Jun 18, 2009 -> 10:14 PM) Looking at the entire season so far, not just one game, Getz's defense has been mediocre. His range to his left is great. That's about the only above average thing he does defensively. He's been atrocious at turning the double play, with both setting up Alexei as well as his throws to first. I'd give his defense a C- so far.

Can I just add to this that Poreda being on the big league roster is a huge mistake now, as he needs to be in AA boosting his trade value instead of sitting on the bench.
  25. QUOTE (SoxFan562004 @ Jun 18, 2009 -> 10:45 PM) Why I put those two "ifs" in there, Votto makes them MUCH better, he is a hell of a hitter and Volquez is about 2-3 weeks away. Also, Harang is better than he was last year and Cueto can be up and down, but he's a tough guy to face. Again, I'm not trying to say anyone in that division is the '27 Yankees, I'm just trying to point out that the teams are slightly improved and are going to give the Cubs tougher games than last year Oh believe me, I hope they stay in the race and at least make the Cubs play good baseball to get past them into 3rd place.
