  1. QUOTE (maggsmaggs @ Jun 26, 2009 -> 05:16 PM) Simply put, we got a steal. I know I was hesitant to draft him, then when we did, I was disappointed. I heard some JO comparisons and that made me dislike him, but after watching him, there is no comparison. Mitchell has got great power, he hits the ball far on weak swings. He just is jacked with strong, quick wrists. His speed is better than Owens and he walks a ton. He can be a dynamic player for the Sox. The Crawford comparisons are good, but he can be better than Carl. Both have similar speed, but Mitchell should be able to hit for way more power than CC and walk a ton more. I love the pick now after actually seeing him play. I really think he can be a 30/30 guy in his prime who also has a +.400 OBP. He seems to have a great attitude and seems like a good clubhouse guy, just based off the jokes he told during the CWS. He also is not even that raw, I can't imagine what he will be like in three years after devoting it all to baseball. I would have picked him in the top ten in this draft after seeing him play. He is that good. I don't think he has 30 home run power. If he can get up to 15 homers, that would be a real plus. Remember that with a wooden bat, he'll likely struggle hitting opposite field homers. I didn't see him try to bunt during the CWS, and he actually seemed to not want to steal when he got on.
  2. I actually really like Hopper. He's an absolutely fantastic bunter. He struggled last year cause I believe he blew out his elbow.
  3. QUOTE (bigruss22 @ Jun 26, 2009 -> 06:38 PM) You would think he would match up well against the softer throwing Wells too... Wells isn't exactly Jim Parque. I've seen him get his fastball up to 94 mph this year. With his command, he'd have no problem throwing 92 mph past Fields above the belt. I'm happy Fields isn't playing, and shockingly wish Wise was playing for Anderson.
  4. That 5% = seeing if Jim Thome suffers a serious injury
  5. Some observations about Mitchell: - he's not nearly as much of a slap hitter as I had feared. He has a compact swing and gets good lift on the ball. - his contact rate was pretty good. With all of his strike outs, I thought he'd be a free swinger who couldn't recognize offspeed pitches. He must have K'd looking an awful lot. - didn't see enough of his defense to make any judgments. - he has a swagger to him that you love to see. I guarantee that if he was picked by someone else, there would have been people on here wishing we would have picked him. - the last two years of the CWS have been awesome for us Sox fans. Basically the two biggest stars of the past two years have been Beckham and Mitchell.

If my wife has a baby in 9 months, it's all your fault!
  7. You have to wonder where Mitchell would be picked if the draft was this week? He seems to be impressing a lot of people.
  8. Yay! Nice to see them finally lose again.
  9. Look who's back, it's 6th inning Javy.
  10. Hell of a comeback from down 5 against a good pitcher.
  11. QUOTE (southsideirish71 @ Jun 21, 2009 -> 04:01 AM) His velocity has been fine tonight. Bruce got a first pitch fastball and crushed it. It's just so hittable now. At least he seems to have found his hanger.
  12. Another homer off of Jenks, and the tying run to the plate. His fastball is a joke now.
  13. Hey everyone, it's Liney time! One batter, one hit.
  14. Alexei's starting to show some extra base ability again.
  15. Scotty Pods taking some great swings.
  16. Ozzie's trying to prove Thome's history against Rhodes has been a fluke.
  17. QUOTE (Brian @ Jun 21, 2009 -> 02:03 AM) Ramon Hernandez was opening up on every pitch, expecting an inside fastball and we kept throwing it there. Throw one away he would of K'd. Yep, and not only that, but Alexei was playing up the middle.
  18. Can we fire someone during the game? Jeff Cox maybe?
  19. What's the gamecast getting the MPH for our pitchers? Hopefully Comcast is way off. Thornton hasn't topped 93 mph tonight.
  20. 4 errors on the Sox tonight. More miscommunication on the infield.
  21. Ozzie's leaving Dotel out to die right now. Please KW, trade Dotel while he still has value.
  22. Dotel seems to have hit the wall this season. Fastball's down a few mph.
  23. QUOTE (Buehrle>Wood @ Jun 21, 2009 -> 02:37 AM) Is Wise hitting a double a good thing or bad thing? If his previous performance wasn't going to get him DFA'd, then nothing would. Might as well hope for the best with him.
